Bursa market outlook: *Awaiting the end of its consolidation* Asian stock markets finished the week on a mixed note with Korea’s KOSPI (+2.42%) leading the gains last Friday. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) lost 7.32pts or 0.42% to end the day at 1,727.39. Week-on-week, the index fell 8.36pts or 0.48%. The broader market was dragged down by industrial products (-1.19%), construction (-1.04%) and energy (-0.49%) during the day. Top gainers included utilities (+2.21%), FBMACE (+0.96%) and property (+0.25%). Trading volume slid to 3.51bn (down from 3.52bn previously) while trading value softened to RM2.60bn (down from RM3.05bn previously). Market breadth stayed negative as 538 gainers lost out to 619 decliners. The benchmark formed a second black candle last Friday, extending its correction towards the 20-day EMA. The said EMA (currently at 1,725) remains as the immediate support followed by the 50-day EMA. We believe that once the current consolidation comes to an end, the index is likely to work its way higher again in the coming sessions. The next move up is likely to test the trend line at 1,755, as well as the historical resistances at 1,768 (May26 high) and 1,771 (8-year high) in the coming days. Will stay short-to-medium term bullish as long as prices stay above the 50-day EMA. NOTE: Our portfolios are in *risk-on mode* this week. Bursa market outlook: *Can the 20-day EMA hold up?* Asian stock markets finished mixed on Tuesday while Indonesia’s JCI (-1.53%) led the decliners in the region. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) eased further by 3.91pts or 0.23% to end the day at 1,731.46. Top laggards were plantation (-0.38%), property (-0.34%) and transportation (-0.27%). Buying interest was seen in healthcare (+1.23%), energy (+0.99%) and construction (+0.50%). Trading volume weaken to 3.44bn (down from 3.49bn previously) but trading value rose to RM2.94bn (up from RM2.56bn previously). Market breadth turned slightly negative as 562 gainers lost out to 581 decliners. The benchmark pullback and formed a black candle yesterday, extending its consolidation after trading in a tight range over the past few days. The 20-day EMA (currently at 1,722) may act as the immediate support. The index may consolidate a tad more but we continue to favour the bulls for now with the benchmark staying above the rising 50-day EMA. Once this consolidation ends, we continue to expect the index to work its way higher to test the trend line at 1,755, as well as the historical resistances at 1,768 (May26 high) and 1,771 (8-year high) in the coming days.
