  • As of March 8, 2026, the escalation of the U.S.-Israel-Iran war has moved petrochemical from a structural oversupply to an acute geopolitical under-supply. While China has short-term "buffers," its massive petrochemical sector is now facing an existential threat due to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz as well as infrastructure destruction Israeli strikes on March 7–8 targeted key Iranian facilities, including the Tondgouyan and Shahran oil refineries and storage depots near Tehran. Zhejiang Petrochemical Corp (ZPC): Cut output by 20% in March, citing halted Middle East shipments Refiners like Shanghai SECCO, CNOOC, and Shell Petrochemicals (CSPC) are cutting run rates by 10–30% due to feedstock woes.
