  • 13 авг. 2025 г.When I first started in audit, I thought it was all about completing tasks. Follow the checklist. Finish the testing. Move to the next control. It felt efficient. But it wasn’t valuable. Over time, I learned something that changed how I work. Don’t just check the box. Understand why the box exists. What risk it is meant to address. What could go wrong if it is ignored. In audit, this shift makes you a better auditor. In life, it makes you a better decision-maker. Ticking boxes makes you efficient. Understanding the risk makes you valuable. The best auditors, and the best people, do not just complete tasks. They connect them to the bigger picture. What’s your way of seeing the bigger picture? #itaudit #cisa #crisc #audit1,75%
  • 19 сент. 2024 г.Effective IT audit testing starts with defining the right attributes. From what I have learnt so far, instead of relying on templates or copying from online sources, take the time to fully understand the control's process. Instead, understand the risk it is designed to address. Design testing attributes that align with the unique risks and objectives of that control. By customizing your approach, you'll ensure your audit delivers insightful and reliable results. Trust me - It is a game changer.0,80%

Since there’s little manual intervention, these controls deserve close attention. Based on my experience auditing tech controls, here are the top five things I always validate when testing the design and effectiveness of these controls: 1\ Frequency of the Control First, check if the control operates at the right frequency. If the control isn’t running as often as needed, it won’t meet its objective. For example, if an automated process should run daily but is only running weekly, that’s a red flag. 2\ Is It Addressing the Risk? Next, make sure the control actually mitigates the risk it’s designed for. Say, for instance, you’re auditing a data transfer between applications. You’ll need to confirm that the transfer happens completely and accurately without manual intervention. 3\ What Triggers the Control? Understand what kicks off the control. For example, an automated approval for a purchase order over $20,000 should trigger when the order is entered. Check that this trigger works as intended and happens at the right intervals. 4\Is Manual Input Required? Some automated controls still rely on manual inputs, like submitting a purchase order to trigger the approval. Validate that any manual actions tied to the control are accurate and reliable, as errors here can break the automation. 5\Control Configuration Lastly, review how the control is configured in the system. This can involve inspecting system manuals or observing the control live to ensure everything works as it should. These are my go-to checks, but remember, the design and risk of the control will dictate other things you might need to test. ♻️ Enjoy reading this?
