Trump Officials Now Restricting All Legal Immigration Categories Summary The Trump administration is implementing widespread restrictions on legal immigration, affecting U.S. citizens sponsoring family, employers, and various visa categories like Diversity Visas and refugees. Led by White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, these policies include application freezes, a stricter public charge rule and changes affecting DACA recipients. Analysts from the National Foundation for American Policy project a 33% to 50% reduction in legal immigration, totaling 1.5 to 2.4 million people, by the end of Trump's term. This is expected to harm the economy, including a potential labor loss of 19 million worker years by 2028 and a $1.9 trillion reduction in goods and services. Several lawsuits are challenging the measures. 👇 https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2026/08/17/trump-officials-now-restricting-all-legal-immigration-categories/

BREAKING NEWS 🚨 Adjudicating Immigrant Visa (IV) Applicants in Their Country of Residence Last Updated: July 15, 2026 The Department of State is now requiring immigrant visa applicants to interview in the consular district designated for their place of residence, or in their country of nationality if requested, with limited exceptions. Effective November 1, 2025, the National Visa Center will schedule immigrant visa applicants in their country of residence or, if requested, country of nationality. Residents of countries where the U.S. government is not conducting routine visa operations should apply at their designated immigrant visa processing post, unless the applicant is a national of another country with ongoing operations. See the designated posts listed below. Applicants should note the following: Existing Appointments: Existing immigrant visa appointments will generally not be rescheduled or cancelled. Post to Post Transfers: Beginning immediately, if an applicant would like to transfer her or his immigrant visa case to a new processing post after the National Visa Center has scheduled the appointment, the applicant should contact the National Visa Center. The applicant should not contact the consular section directly. Applicants should use the National Visa Center’s Public Inquiry Form. Residence Requirement: If an applicant requests to interview at a post other than the applicant’s assigned consular processing post or country of nationality, the National Visa Center may request additional information to confirm that location is an applicant’s place of residence, or to confirm whether an exception may be appropriate. Exceptions: Rare exceptions may be made for humanitarian, medical emergencies, or foreign policy reasons. Diversity Visas: These changes will be applied to Diversity Visa applicants in the future DV program years. Applicants should check embassy and consulate websites for more detailed information about visa application requirements and procedures, and to learn more about the embassy or consulate’s operating status and services. 👇 https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/adjudicating-iv-applicants-in-their-country-of-residence.html

BREAKING NEWS 🚨 US Citizenship and Immigration Services Rescinds 2022 Public Charge Regulation 👇 The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a final rule rescinding the 2022 Biden-era regulation regarding public charge determinations, further aligning immigration law with Congressional intent that aliens in the United States be self-reliant and not dependent on taxpayer-funded government benefits. Under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), an individual applying for a visa, admission, or adjustment of status is inadmissible to the United States if deemed likely at any time to become a public charge. The now-rescinded Biden-era regulation restricted which public benefits DHS could consider, limiting officers’ ability to review all relevant factors as intended by Congress. With this final rule, USCIS officers are empowered to assess all pertinent facts on a case-by-case basis for each applicant. “The Trump administration is upholding the rule of law and protecting American taxpayers from subsidizing aliens who may become dependent on public benefits. USCIS is committed to safeguarding the safety, security, and financial well-being of Americans,” said U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesperson Zach Kahler. The rule will take effect on Sept. 18, 2026. USCIS will publish a revised Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. Older versions of Form I-485 postmarked or submitted electronically on or after the effective date will not be accepted.

BREAKING NEWS 🚨 U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Will Grant ‘Adjustment of Status’ Only in Extraordinary Circumstances U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced a new policy memo reiterating the fact that, consistent with long-standing immigration law and immigration court decisions, aliens seeking adjustment of status must do so through consular processing via the Department of State outside of the country. Officers are directed to consider all relevant factors and information on a case-by-case basis when determining whether an alien warrants this extraordinary form of relief. “We’re returning to the original intent of the law to ensure aliens navigate our nation’s immigration system properly. From now on, an alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply, except in extraordinary circumstances. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. When aliens apply from their home country, it reduces the need to find and remove those who decide to slip into the shadows and remain in the U.S. illegally after being denied residency,” said USCIS Spokesman Zach Kahler. “Nonimmigrants, like students, temporary workers, or people on tourist visas, come to the U.S. for a short time and for a specific purpose. Our system is designed for them to leave when their visit is over. Their visit should not function as the first step in the Green Card process. Following the law allows the majority of these cases to be handled by the State Department at U.S. consular offices abroad and frees up limited USCIS resources to focus on processing other cases that fall under its purview, including visas for victims of violent crime and human trafficking, naturalization applications, and other priorities. The law was written this way for a reason, and despite the fact that it has been ignored for years, following it will help make our system fairer and more efficient.” link 🔗
