  • Wiping the Head Three Times During Wudu Questioner: Is there a ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth which is established regarding wiping the head three times [during wuḍūʾ]? Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī رحمه الله: Regarding what? Questioner: Wiping the head three times; is there a ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth which is established regarding it? Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī رحمه الله said: Imām al-Bayhaqī – who was Shāfiʿī, and the Shāfiʿīyyah hold the view of wiping three times – said that it is a munkar (objectable) addition [to the ḥadīth], and this is what is apparent; Abū Dāwūd رحمه الله said: “It is an addition which is munkar,” and I am certain of the statement of Imām al-Bayhaqī. That which is most likely to me is that Abū Dāwūd – and Allāh knows best; did he simply mention [the ḥadīth] and remain silent regarding it, or did he mention it and say that it is munkar? As for al-Bayhaqī, then he said that it is munkar. Nothing is established from the Nabī ﷺ regarding wiping the head three times; he wiped it once, starting with his hands at the front of the head and running them to the back. • Did Any of These People Celebrate Mawlid? Shaykh ʿAbd al-Muḥsin al-ʿAbbād حفظه الله said: … furthermore, love for the Rasūl ﷺ; by way of what does it occur? It occurs by way of following him, and treading his methodology ﷺ; Allāh عز وجل said: قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ ٣١ “Say, ‘If you love Allāh, follow me; Allāh will love you and forgive your sins for you, and Allāh is Ghafūr (Forgiving) and Raḥīm (Merciful).’ ” قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى “Say, ‘If you love Allāh, follow me.” As such, the sign of loving the Rasūl ﷺ is following him, and not that something is done l that has no basis in Islām, as no direction came from the Nabī ﷺ to celebrate his Mawlid (birthday), nor did anything like that come from al-Khulafāʾ al-Rāshidūn (the Rightly-Guided Khulafāʾ). Also, throughout all of the three Noble Generations – three hundred years – there was no mention of the mawālid; there was no mention of the mawālid throughout them. Rather, the mawālid were only introduced during the fourth century Hijrī, and the first people who introduced them were the ʿUbaydīyyūn who ruled over Egypt during the fourth century Hijrī. As al Miqrīzī said in al-Khuṭaṭ wa al-Āthār fī Tārīkh Miṣr: he said, “They introduced six mawālid; the mīlād of the Nabī ﷺ, the mīlād of ʿAlī, the mīlād of Fāṭimah, the mīlād of al-Ḥasan, the mīlād of al-Ḥusayn, and the sixth is the mīlād of the present ruler of theirs.” As such, these celebrations and specifying these occasions with certain actions did not occur during the three generations, who were the best of generations, of whom the Rasūl ﷺ said: خَيْرُ النَّاسِ قَرْنِي ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ “The best of mankind are my generation, then those after them, then those after them.” The Ṣaḥābah; this celebration – of the mawālid – was not present among them, and the Tābiʿūn likewise, and the Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn likewise. An entire three hundred years and this thing did not exist! Rather, this was only introduced during the fourth century Hijrī, and those who introduced it were the ʿUbaydīyyūn who ruled Egypt. Furthermore, what is the basis for this celebration? It is following the Christians; ‘Because the Christians celebrate the mīlād of ʿĪsā, we will celebrate the mīlād of Muḥammad ﷺ.’ Thus, those who introduced it were the ʿUbaydīyyūn, and the basis is following the Christians, and it is known that all good is in what Rasūlullāh ﷺ and his Ṣaḥābah were upon, and Rasūlullāh ﷺ did not direct us to that, nor did he do it, and neither did al-Khulafāʾ al-Rāshidūn, nor the Ṣaḥābah – it did not occur from any of them, and it did not occur among the Tābiʿūn nor the Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn; this only came into existence in the fourth century. For this reason, there is not anything present in any books regarding the three generations that contains an indication towards celebrating the mawālid. Not at all. There is nothing that says that the people used to celebrate and that they used to order the people to celebrate, and that they used to do that; an entire three hundred years in which this did not exist, and it is known that every good is in following those who preceded; it is a must that the love for the Rasūl ﷺ is greater in our hearts than the love of every beloved thing but according to his Sunnah ﷺ, and nothing came in his Sunnah nor in the actions of al-Salaf al-Ṣāliḥ – who are the Ṣaḥābah and those who were upon their way – anything of the likes. Thus, all good is in a person follow the sunan and being wary of falling into newly introduced matters, as it is obligatory that a person is a follower, as the poet said: كُلُّ خَيْرٍ فِي اتِّبَاعِ مَنْ سَلَفَ “Every good is in following those who preceded, وَكُلُّ شَرٍّ فِي ابْتِدَاعِ مَنْ خَلَفَ “and every evil is in the ibtidāʿ (introduction) of those who came after.” Tr: Abū Hurayrah al-Birīṭānī Source: https://t.me/fawaid_benefits/789 Mawlid Series Index: https://t.me/fawaid_benefits/788

  • What Parts of the Face Must We Wash During Wudu? Questioner: I hope for the exact definition of the face for wuḍūʾ for someone who has no beard, and for someone who has a beard, with detail, that is, and an explanation of the meaning of that. Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz رحمه الله said: The face is that by which coming face-to-face is achieved; one washes that which is between both ears and from the place where hair grows at the top to the beard below. This is the face. One must wash his face and the beard along with it; he passes water over it (the beard), and also [he must wash] the cheeks – that which is directly next to the ears; the ears are a part of the head, not the face, however, that which is between [the ears] is all a part of the face. Also, from the place where hair grows at the top and below; all of this a part of the face, to the beard. Furthermore, the beard, if one runs his fingers through it with water, then this is better, and if he [simply] runs water over the entirety of it, then this suffices, والحمد لله. Questioner: جزاكم الله خيرا And what if he has no beard? Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz رحمه الله: Likewise, he must wash the place of the beard. • The Result of Attachment to Other than Allah Imām Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Every person who becomes attached to something other than Allāh will be separated from it at the time they are most in need of it, just as Allāh said: إِذْ تَبَرَّأَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتُّبِعُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ وَرَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَسْبَابُ “ ‘… when those who were followed will free themselves from those who followed them and they see the Punishment, their ties between them will become cut off.’ “The ties which are cut off between them are the attachments that were via other than Allāh and for other than Him; they will be separated from them at the time they are most in need of them. This is because, as those objectives [which they intended by them] were null and void, their ties [likewise] became null and void, as means become null and void according to their objectives. “Everything will perish besides His Face, Exalted is He, and so every action is false except whatever the intent of which was His Face, and every strife for other than Him is invalid. “This is the same as what people witness in the dunyā of strife, action, hard work, and service which the servant does for an authority, leader, or a holder of a position or wealth – when the person they worked for goes away, said work goes to waste, and said strife becomes useless, and nothing remains in their hands besides deprivation… “For this reason, the mushrik (idol worshipper) is among those in the greatest loss on the Day of their Return, as they are made to turn to someone who is in complete and utter bankruptcy – in fact, to nothing, while the person of Tawḥīd is turned to the Possessor of Vast Bounty, The Most Noble. So how great is the distance between the two!” Ṭarīq al-Hijratayn (vol. 1, pgs. 21-22) Tr: Abū Hurayrah al-Birīṭānī Join Channel: https://t.me/fawaid_benefits

  • Do You Give Fatwā Like the Salaf? Shaykh ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Barjas رحمه الله said: Reflect over the way of the Salaf, Allāh be pleased with them, and what they used to be upon of extreme caution regarding giving fatāwā and speaking on Allāh’s behalf تعالى; you will see something astonishing! You will see something astonishing which causes within the souls great fear of audaciously declaring things to be ḥalāl (permissible) and ḥarām (impermissible). Al-Bayhaqī and others narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā رحمه الله that he said: “I met one hundred and twenty of the Ṣaḥābah of Rasūlullāh ﷺ; one of them would be asked about a matter, so this person would refer it to that person, and that person to this person, until it would return to the first.” End quote. As for in these times, then every person says: ‘I am fit for it! I am fit for it!’ and one of them will give a fatwā regarding a matter which, were it presented to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه, he would have gathered those who fought in the battle of Badr for it! So to Allāh we belong and to Him we will return. Tr: Abū Hurayrah al-Birīṭānī Source: https://t.me/fawaid_benefits/778
