𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗯𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: 𝗔 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 When pressure rises and emotions push a person toward anger, most people react without thinking. The Quran teaches a different path: forbearance (known in Arabic as ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑚), the strength to remain steady when the moment feels heavy. Forbearance is the ability to feel agitation inside yet choose restraint. It is staying in control when provoked or insulted and responding with clarity instead of impulse. This is not weakness. It is a sign of maturity and sound judgment. Allah describes Himself as Forbearing (𝐻𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑒𝑚) in several verses, including: “Indeed, Allah is Ever‑Forbearing, Most Forgiving.” (Quran 35:41) The Quran also describes Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) with this quality: “Indeed, Ibrahim was forbearing, tender‑hearted, and ever‑turning to Allah.” (Quran 11:75) This shows how deeply rooted this trait is in the character of those who carry wisdom. There is also a clear hadith about forbearance. When a delegation visited the Prophet (peace be upon him), their leader approached calmly and thoughtfully. The Prophet (peace be upon him) noticed his composed nature and said: “You have two qualities that Allah loves: forbearance and deliberation.” (Sahih Muslim) Without forbearance, a person loses depth. Their judgments become shallow, their reactions harmful, and their decisions disconnected from wisdom. Forbearance protects a person from acting on emotion alone and guides them toward what is right. Only someone with patience, and awareness of consequences can remain steady in moments of turmoil. Such a person knows where to place each step and avoids rash behaviour that leads nowhere and is often tainted by regret. Forbearance is not silence. It is strength. It is clarity. It is the quiet discipline of choosing the better path even when emotions pull in another direction. It is something we should seek to cultivate in our everyday lives. #imammasood
