    Aleph Hospitality has appointed Rob Kucera as Regional Vice President for East and South Africa, based in Nairobi, the company announced August 17, 2026, in Dubai. Kucera will oversee 25-plus hotels across six brands in 20 destinations in nine countries, having previously served as Complex General Manager and District Director for East Africa at Radisson Hotel Group. Aleph Hospitality, headquartered in Dubai, manages over 50 hotels representing more than 7,000 rooms across 23 countries, according to Founder and Co-CEO Bani Haddad.

    The Treasury released KSh3.3 billion to the State Department for Sports in July, the opening month of the 2026/27 financial year, equal to 96% of its entire KSh3.43 billion development budget for the full year.  The figure comes directly from a Treasury statement of actual revenues and net Exchequer issues published in the Kenya Gazette and covers the period ending July 2026.  No other state department drew down its annual development allocation at anywhere near that pace in the same month.

    The Kenyan government will distribute five million avocado seedlings and one million cocoa seedlings in Meru County under an agricultural expansion programme aimed at boosting production and farmers' incomes, Forestry Principal Secretary Gitonga Mugambi announced. The initiative seeks to strengthen Meru's position as a leading avocado-producing region while introducing cocoa as a new income-generating crop, reducing reliance on traditional farming. Farmers will receive agricultural extension services, training, and access to quality planting materials to support the programme, which the government expects to boost export earnings and value addition.

    Kenyan used-car marketplace Peach Cars has secured about US$4 million in debt financing from Japan Finance Corporation and Shoko Chukin Bank, the company announced August 14, 2026, following its US$11 million Series A round raised in June 2025 led by Suzuki Global Ventures. Founded in 2020 by Kaoru Kaganoi and Zachary Petroni, Peach Cars currently lists more than 1,500 vehicles on its platform and uses a 225-point inspection system. The company's business spans vehicle inspections, sales, financing, logistics, and title transfer services.

    The National Assembly has approved a bill requiring the country's three road authorities to build dedicated lanes for cyclists and pedestrians on roads under their control.  The Kenya Roads (Amendment) Bill, 2024, sponsored by Naisula Lesuuda, mandates the Kenya National Highways Authority, Kenya Rural Roads Authority and Kenya Urban Roads Authority to design and construct non-motorized transport infrastructure, including cycling lanes and pedestrian walkways, and gives traffic police enforcement powers over their use.

    Fintech infrastructure company Maplerad, co-founded by Obinna Chukwujioke, has processed more than $500 million in transactions by building payment rails for cross-border payments, foreign exchange, virtual bank accounts, card issuing, and stablecoin on- and off-ramps across Africa. Chukwujioke previously co-founded Wirepay in 2020 before shifting toward infrastructure. Maplerad's Automated Liquidity and Routing Engine manages currency volatility and correspondent banking friction, while its Roam product offers USD bank accounts and stablecoin wallets for transfers between the US and African markets.

    Interpol's African Cyberthreat Assessment Report 2026 found that AI was involved in 55 percent of cybercrime cases observed across surveyed African countries in 2025, with deepfake incidents rising sevenfold between the second and fourth quarters of 2024. Only 8 percent of intelligence analysts surveyed had advanced AI expertise, and 92 percent of agencies cited a lack of technical capacity. The continent had over 1.1 billion mobile subscriptions and processed more than $1.1 trillion in digital transactions in 2025. About 72 percent of surveyed countries reported the presence of organized scam centers, while 94 percent of agencies lacked adequate digital forensics tools.

    Central Bank of Kenya Governor Kamau Thugge said on August 12, 2026, that the bank's 4.9 percent fourth-quarter growth projection already accounts for potential El Nino rain damage to agriculture between October and December, with room for an upside surprise. The Kenya Meteorological Service estimates an 81 percent chance of a strong El Nino and a 97 percent probability of effects continuing into early 2027.
