  • 🕯🕯 1/2 Elul 5786 א אלול תשפ"ו Rosh Chodesh ⏱ Shabbat: 18:44 - 20:02 ✍️ Parasha Shoftim שׁוֹפְטִים (Judges) Deut16:18-21:9 Isa51:12-52:12 Torah תורה 🗞 Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. Deut16:18 שֹׁפְטִים וְשֹׁטְרִים תִּתֶּן־לְךָ בְּכָל־שְׁעָרֶיךָ אֲשֶׁר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לְךָ לִשְׁבָטֶיךָ וְשָׁפְטוּ אֶת־הָעָם מִשְׁפַּט־צֶדֶק shoftim veshoterim titen lecha behol shearecha asher adonai eloeha noten lecha lishvateha veshaftu et aam mishpat tzedek Shoftim (“Judges”) discusses guidelines of leadership, opening with a command to appoint judges and continuing to detail laws of kings, priests, and prophets. In this week's chapter there are 41 commandments. Haftarah הפטרה 🗞"I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men, the sons of men, who are but grass," Isa51:12 אָנֹכִי אָנֹכִי הוּא מְנַחֶמְכֶם מִי־אַתְּ וַתִּירְאִי מֵאֱנוֹשׁ יָמוּת וּמִבֶּן־אָדָם חָצִיר יִנָּתֵן ankhi ankhi u minakhemhem mi at vatir’i meenush yamut umiben adam hatsir inaten This is the 4th of the haftarot of consolation prophesying that the redeemed Israel will become a light to all nations. Unfortunately, the haftarah passage does not include Isaiah's greatest prophecy about the Messiah / Christ. Let's add it - 🗞"See, my servant will act wisely; he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted. Just as there were many who were appalled at him--his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness--so will he sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand." • 🌒 Rosh Chodesh (New Month) Elul 2026 רֹאשׁ חוֹדֶשׁ אֱלוּל 5786 Elul / אלול - the last month of the Jewish calendar, preceding the Festival of Trumpets Yom Truah יום תרועה (Rosh HaShanah). It's surprising that Elul / אלול - is an abbreviation of the phrase "I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine," (Song6:3) - אֲנִ֤י לְדוֹדִ֙י וְדוֹדִ֣י לִ֔י "ani le-dodi, ve-dodi li". 🗞"Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another." (1John4:11) 🎺During the Hebrew month of Elul, the shofar is blown every morning after Shacharit (morning prayer service שחרית ), except on Shabbat, to wake people up to repent before Rosh Hashanah. @mid7east 🌒

  • 📅 DATING METHODS (Cultural Background Study Bible) Old Testament writers did not have the luxury of one fixed point in time from which to date events; they therefore dated occurrences in their texts as they related to other important events in the memory or tradition of their audi-ence-perhaps a noteworthy natural phenomenon (eg., the earthquake in Am 1:1) or a memorable historical occasion, such as the death of a king (Isa 6:l; 14:28) or a military attack (Isa 20:1). This convention is called "relative dating" since it relates one event to another in sequence. A contemporary example might be saying that something happened "three years ago." Relative dating makes it difficult to correlate one such system with another. In Isa 6:1, to what year in our BC/AD system does "the year that King Uzziah died" correspond? One of the ways to accomplish this correlation is by finding "synchronisms," events involving two groups that are known from within each group. Such a correlation (which does not provide an exact date) was Israel's paying tribute to Assyria. That event is mentioned in records of both of the kings involved, Menahem of Israel (2Ki 15:19) and Tiglath-Pileser III (called "Pul" in 2Ki 15:19) of Assyria. These synchronisms, of which there are several between Israel/Judah and Mesopotamia, as well as between Israel/Judah and Egypt and between Egypt and Mesopotamia, serve as anchors, binding together separate relative dating systems. The next step to accurate dating is helped by the detailed records kept by the Egyptians. For them, the exact moment that the star Sirius appeared in a certain position marked the beginning of the agricultural year. Their records noted these dates, and modern astronomers have determined that the star follows a cycle of 1,460 years. Putting the Egyptian records together with the astronomical data allows us to relate events in those records to our dating system. Assyrian records also help in this way. The Assyrians collected the names for each year in what is called the Eponym List, which provides a relative chronology. An anchor point to other chronological systems, resulting in a more absolute chronology, is provided in the Eponym List by reference to a solar eclipse, which has been identified astronomically as occurring in 763 BC. @mid7east🎺

  • ✝️ According to data from the Vienna-based OIDAC Europe (Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians): In 2024, a total of 94 intentional arson attacks on Christian churches or church property were recorded across all of Europe. During peak months of radical escalation (such as spring 2026), records show between 11 and 13 arson cases per month continent-wide. Germany, France, and the UK report the highest number of these specific incidents. @mid7east🎺

  • Türkiye’s growing regional influence could increase the potential for friction and conflict with Israel, former Israeli National Security Council head Meir Ben-Shabbat said, warning Israeli authorities against complacency as Ankara expands its role across the Middle East. Speaking to Israel’s Maariv newspaper on Tuesday, Ben-Shabbat argued that Türkiye is taking advantage of shifting regional dynamics to strengthen its position as a leading Middle Eastern power. https://www.dailysabah.com/politics/ex-israeli-chief-labels-turkiyes-growing-regional-role-as-concerning/news/amp @mid7east🎺
