  • Happy Independence Day to everyone in Uzbekistan!)🎉🎊🥳 It's been a while since my last post, and this time around I wanted to share an opportunity that I truly wish I had the chance to pursue myself - if only I had 40 hours in a day instead of 24! 😅🙈 Jokes aside, I've always admired the engineering talent at Yandex. To me, Yandex has always been like the Russian equivalent of Google. They are launching a new year-long dive deep ML course with offline classes in the evenings. If you have a good understanding of math, algorithms, and programming, please apply before September 10th! I genuinely wish I could study there myself🥹. You can find more information at the link below: https://mlschool.yandex.uz/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mlschool2025 One more thing I wanted to share is a channel that I recently stumbled upon. It has an excellent list of opportunities for studying abroad, including full scholarships at top universities. They also post great internship opportunities overseas. If you haven't heard of Studyqa (@studyqa) yet, I highly recommend subscribing to their channel. Who knows - you might just find an opportunity that will change your life 180% for the better! 🙌🙏 Wish you the best of luck! 🙏🙌

  • Hello everyone! I'm excited to share another opportunity with you all. Recently, I learned about EPIC Institute of Technology, an online educational institution backed by EPAM Systems from my ex colleague. As a huge fan of rs.school, which is also supported by EPAM, I believe that these courses are of great quality. If you're looking for a chance to learn and potentially secure an internship or job offer at EPAM or other leading companies, this is an opportunity you should try out. EPIC Institute of Technology offers four programs, each lasting one year: Complex Logic Real-Time Backend Real-Time Frontend Time Series Analysis These programs have rigorous curricula that cover fundamental topics such as: Math and Statistics Data Science Algorithms and Data Structures Advanced Programming Languages If I had the time to study, I would definitely enroll in one of these programs. The institute offers two ways to get admission: Passing three entrance exams successfully or Submitting a resume To be eligible, you just have to be at least 18 years old. I hope this information is useful to at least some of you. In any case, if you believe someone you know might benefit from this information, please share it. Here's the link to the admissions page: https://epic-institute.io/admissions/ The next exam dates are August 13, and August 19. Let's pray that this world will be filled with more bright and kind people in power, Ameen 🤲 PS: I used perplexity.ai to proof read my post, I am not a big fan of chatgpt for reasons they are everything but open. Perplexity.ai is a very good alternative that references things they share. And I am a fan of it). It is like Google but much better :)

  • Hi everyone, I rarely post in here, especially given the situation in the world, it is hard for me to write about anything when I see people suffering in Palestine and other places. May Allah give victory and peace to all suffering and oppressed, Ameen🙏. Anyways, I try to use my channel to post about opportunities in IT field that excites me and I learnt about one recently. I have heard about Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (https://mbzuai.ac.ae/) in the past, but I did not know they have very generous scholarships for those who want to pursue their masters or phd degrees in the following fields: Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Robotics and Computer Science. And I also learnt that they are top 20 in the world in some of those fields next to universities like Berkley, Columbia and others. I think it is an amazing opportunity for those looking to continue their education in cutting edge fields which also cover 100% tuition fee, 100% accommodation, annual roundtrip tickets to their home country, plus a monthly stipend of 8,000AED for MSc students, and 10,000AED for Phd students. If you have any questions, you can write them to Aigerim Alibek, Student recruitment advisor for Central Asia & East Europe Her telegram account: @al_aigerim I pray that we have more knowledgable people with a right moral compas in power around the globe, Ameen 🙏 Peace🕊🇵🇸

  • Recently my friend shared with me an interesting opportunity for women to pursue a fully covered Master's degree program in the UK. There are a couple of eligible institutions including University of St Andrews. While most of the courses are on campus, few of them are available online as well. For example, I found an online Data Science Master's degree program which sounds interesting. These scholarships are open for citizens of different countries, please check the following link to see if your country is in the list: bit.ly/3IB0MPd. As far as I understood that, you need to apply for an eligible program before you apply for a scholarship. The latest application deadline is 22nd of March. Here is the link with more information for applicants from Uzbekistan: https://www.britishcouncil.uz/en/study-uk/scholarship-women-stem Hope this information was useful for at least some of you. If it does not work for you this year, I am sure you can hopefully apply next year. Wish you best of luck in your endeavors ❤️

  • It has been a while since I posted the last time. Deadlines are good, because they force you to take an action). So the reason why I finally decided to dedicate some time from my busy schedule to write this post is because I wanted to share with you about a great program called TechWomen. And the deadline for this program is approaching :-). Anyways, back in 2016, I was lucky enough to be among Emerging Leaders for TechWomen program from Uzbekistan. This program allows women in STEM fields to get mentorship in top Silicon Valley companies like Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Apple and others. This program is open for women who hold a bachelor's degree, and have a minimum of two years of full-time professional experience in the STEM fields. Eligible countries include my country, Uzbekistan and other countries from Central and South Asia, Middle East and Africa. You can find more information about eligibility criteria here: https://www.techwomen.org/participants/eligibility-and-application.  Now, I just wanted to share my personal experience with this program. I think this program stands at the top of the list of programs I have ever taken part in. The level of motivation you get after the program is just enormous. I mentioned in my earlier posts that I decided to go back to IT back in 2017. And TechWomen largely influenced my decision and I never regret it)! You are going to meet amazing women from different countries, you are going to get mentorship from top professionals in their fields and it definitely enriches your worldview and gives you sooo much inspiration that will last for a lifetime! Words cannot do justice and I was actually recording my experience in US and I thought maybe that could inspire some of you as well. Please watch the recording here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkd5ufyFKbI. So if you are eligible for this program or if you have friends who are eligible for this program, please let them know about it :)! The deadline is 13th of January🙈🙃) I wish you all good luck and I hope this information will be useful at least to some of you)! Thanks for reading till the end and stay blessed)! ❤️

  • Hi everyone, I have not been posting for some time now, and it seems like I have a good reason to write again and that is yet another great opportunity for those who are starting their careers in tech and are willing to try to contribute to open source projects which I believe is amazing! This is a fully remote internship opportunity at Outreachy. You can find more information about the application timeline here: https://www.outreachy.org/apply/project-selection/. The deadline for initial application is 29th of August. I believe you can learn a lot by just participating in this program even if you are not selected at the end of the day. I learnt about this program from one of my techwomen friends from Palestine. I did apply myself to this program in the past but because I had a full time job back then I was not qualified for this program. So please make sure that you have enough time to commit to this program. I also shared about this opportunity with one of my friends in Uzbekistan and she was accepted to this program and did her internship in Machine Learning detecting specific disease in early stages in Africa. Outreachy pays $7,000 for a three months internship program and their focus is helping minorities from around the world to better represent tech communities. If you are successful, you will have a mentor, and I know that they have some cool host companies including Mozilla. I hope that this information was useful to at least some of you. If not, maybe you know someone who could benefit from this information, and in that case, I would encourage you to share this information with them. Who knows, maybe they will be successful and you will have a positive impact in their career! PS: I was wondering which topics I should focus more on in my blog. So please share your ideas of how I could better help you in your career development. Thank you ❤️

  • Now we are coming to the second part of this post where I will talk about the Silicon Valley Internship program (https://siliconvalleyinternship.com/). I learnt about this program back in 2016 from the Techwomen community. I think it is an amazing program for fresh graduates who have a good Data structures and Algorithms background and hopefully have some work experience as well. You need to have a computer science, software engineering or other STEM related degree to be eligible. So when I learnt about this program, I decided to apply and the first thing I noticed was the type of questions they had in the technical assessment stage. They were basically not something I was comfortable with. This program was the reason why I started studying Data structures and Algorithms early on in my career as a software engineer. And because this program was open to graduates within the last 5 years, I had a chance to reapply to this program over and over again since I had my last masters degree in Entrepreneurship back in 2014 (and I had my bachelors degree in Business Computing back in 2008). I think I was lucky to have this safe opportunity to learn Data structures and Algorithms for over several years. But at first I wondered why on earth people ask questions that are not really related to daily work, but then I understood that it is very important for a candidate to have the ability to think and solve complex problems. In any case, I really advise you to try to apply to this program if you are a graduate of CS related degree within the last five years and if you are interested in entrepreneurship and want to work in Silicon Valley startups for 1 year to 18 months. As of now, they pay $80 000 per year which is not that much for Silicon Valley but if you are still early on in your career and you do not have that many options anyways, I think this is a cool place to grow. I used to talk to the founder and manager of the program in the past and I believe they are really cool people. Hope this opportunity will sound interesting for some of you and maybe someone from this group will get there one day). The program usually starts accepting applications in January which means you still have plenty of time to learn Data Structures and Algorithms before the application process opens. And yes I forgot to mention how this program affected my career. I think most people fail during the Data Structures and Algorithms technical assessment stage when they apply to Toptal, and in my case I had a good chance to study it well in advance, and I would advise you to do the same thing. I think you won't regret studying Data structures and Algorithms because for some, Toptal could be a transitional step before they join some FAANG companies if they want to. Thank you for reading this post until the end and I hope that it was useful, if I missed mentioning something important, please let me know in the comments. And happy weekends <3)!

  • It's been a while since I posted here, and after having an event about "First steps in freelancing" at Amity university in Tashkent yesterday I felt motivated to write another post related to freelancing work and one specific program that I wanted to write about for some time now. In the first part of this post I wanted to leave some answers to questions that I got yesterday during the event. I hope the answers will be useful for others as well. And in the second part of the post I wanted to speak about a specific program called Silicon Valley Internship program and how it affected my career. So yesterday during the event at Amity university in Tashkent, I was asked if there is a chance for people who want to work as freelancers to land some stable jobs for the long term. And the answer is YES. Basically, this is my personal preference as well. When I just joined Toptal I knew that I only wanted a full time job for a long term. And I got one in two weeks. I have been working with the same team for almost 8 months now. And I am super happy about it. So when we talk about freelancing we usually talk about short term projects where people work solo. But there are other freelancing jobs where you work as part of the team and usually for a longer term. And this is the answer for all who want stability at work but at the same time want to enjoy all the benefits of freelancing which are many including freedom of movement, financial freedom, and owning your own plans as for when and how often you want to take breaks. Another thing that I wanted to mention is that one of the girls whom I got to know recently during the Women Techmakers event shared a really good success story from her experience. She got a full time job as a freelancer through Upwork platform in a startup acquired by Cisco. She specializes in AI vision. I was super happy for her. And that makes me think that it is very possible to get a full time job at Upwork as well. The only thing that you have to deal with is to try to compete with many other talents to get the job. I think in her case it was great that she had a very specific skill set which matched perfectly the job description. And I am sharing this so that maybe someone will use the same strategy and land a full time job through Upwork. Now on that note, I recall a second question that I got from another participant who happens to be our Rolling Scopes school graduate). So the question was what to do if someone does not really want to compete for jobs. This concern really resonates with me as well because I never wanted to be part of Upwork just for the same reason. I wanted to be part of a network where I can get an opportunity to choose between the jobs, and where I know I do not have to struggle to show off my skills every time I land a job. So there is always a tradeoff. It is hard to get into Toptal but once you are there, it is easier to get your projects. While it is different in Upwork, it is easier to get there, but then you will have to compete for clients which may not be the most comfortable thing to do. But again, I will definitely advise Upwork as a platform for those who are still early in their career and hopefully Toptal once they get at least 2 years of experience. If by any chance my answers seem to you not complete, please comment on this post so that I can update my answers in a way that would satisfy your curiosity).

  • My second recommendation is to find a good teacher if you are not interested in JS or any other courses available at rs.school. And the reason is that you may want to choose a language but you may fail to study it since you won't have a good mentor to guide you. In the worst case you can start from JS and then switch to another language. That is also an option and I saw it in one of my students. He successfully switched to Go and currently works in https://udevs.io/. I also know that JS might be a difficult language to work with if you have prior experience with Java for example, at least I heard some comments like that from my other student. Anyways, the most important thing is to find a good mentor and choose a language based on that. Once you master one language you can always switch to the other later on. I would assume your FULL TIME study journey will take about a year from zero to a level where you can ace an interview in most of the junior to mid level positions (in rs.school stage 0 is 3 months long, stage 1 is 6 months long, and stange 2 is 2 months long). Once you are successfully done with this challenging but most rewarding journey, you will most likely have a chance to get an interview with EPAM. Again, EPAM is the place I personally worked for, but you can choose any other company of your liking, we have more and more companies working with international projects like https://www.appliedlabs.io/, https://en.dsr-corporation.com/, https://www.itechart.com/, https://superdispatch.com/ etc. The reason why I recommend you to work with international projects is because you can learn much more in those projects.  Once you are there, take your time to perfect your skills. I would assume it would require you about 2 years for that. In EPAM they have a lot of courses that you can learn from. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to combine studies with my work but if you can do that then it is perfect. Another reason why I personally could not combine those two is because I was working as a country coordinator at rs.school for about 1.5 years and it was challenging to say the least, but it was my dream to work for a free school, and I realised it in rs.school and I am really grateful for that. For those of you who love fully remote work, I can definitely suggest my current place of work which is Toptal. I personally consider Toptal as the best place for freelancers in the world. And one thing I struggled with at EPAM when I just started my career was that I had to go to the office every day). And then Covid happened and then it turned out that I no longer had to ask for permission to work remotely since everyone was asked to work remotely anyways. Another reason why I do recommend Toptal is because you can earn on average from 5k to 8k per month depending on your skill level. I think it is an amazing opportunity especially when we have almost 0 taxes for those who live in Uzbekistan.  This post became a bit too long, so I guess I will stop it here, but I will come back later and share with you some other places that I can recommend you to start your career with. Thank you for reading until the end. I hope it was useful, and I hope I will positively influence your journey at least a tiny bit, and I hope one day I will meet you if I have not done that already and you will share with me your success story) ❤️

  • Welcome to my channel, for those who do not know me, my name is Munira and I have transitioned my career from Finance to IT back in 2017. I decided to dedicate my first post to my personal recommendations based on my experience on how to enter and hopefully succeed in this challenging journey.  I was a very strong believer in self study and I thought I could learn anything on my own. That belief was stemming from my past experience when I thought I was able to succeed in math olympiads through self study and also learnt English in 6 months prior to entering Westminster International University in Tashkent. I forgot one thing though, I had a really good math teacher between 6th and 7th grade for about 1,5 years. That was enough to gain the fundamental knowledge that served me as a basis to continue my self study. And as for English, I had my brother who recommended the books that helped me to study on my own. Now the reason why I am sharing these all with you is that I tried to study IT on my own for two years and I successfully failed it. One thing I should mention is that it was not my only focus during those two years but still I tried to spend a good amount of time on my studies while trying to build a mobile app for my personal project. In 2019, I decided that I need to start applying for jobs and during this process I felt miserable). Again I am writing this so that you know that it is okie to feel like that especially in the beginning of your journey. Unfortunately NO ONE wants junior developers. Everyone wants at least mid level or senior developers. So please take this into account, you are not alone in this journey, most of us felt miserable in the beginning and it is okie. So when applying to a number of local and foreign companies I was successful in getting rejections). And then a magic happened. I learnt about Rolling Scopes School which started its courses specifically for Uzbekistan in summer of 2019. Prior to that I successfully failed my interview at EPAM and my interviewer suggested me to study at rs.school and reapply again after I complete the course. So I did it. And thank God I was successful. I still keep this school very dear to my heart because of the amazing people I met there. So the first takeaway from my journey is that you DO need someone to guide you, but you still will have to do the heavy lifting on your own. This school was perfect for me. I dedicated all my time to studies and I wish I had free time now to study there again). The reason why I love this school is because it is taught by professionals, but the course is very demanding so please expect to spend around 40 hours of your time per week. It is also totally free and the hope is that you study there and then you come back and share your knowledge as a mentor as a way to pay back for free quality education. I do think that this is the best school out there and I do not see any other schools in Uzbekistan that can compete with rs.school. The reason is that I see many schools having teachers who do not have substantial professional work experience in the first place. I was a teacher myself and I am guilty of that too.  I highly recommend you to read docs.rs.school and look at available courses at rs.school. The main focus is in studying Javascript and its libraries like React, but you also have an option to study Angular or Node.js. There is also a very good and at the same time very demanding Machine Learning course. The courses are mainly available in Russian and some courses are provided in English. Even though the course might be in Russian, some tasks are available in English as well. So if you are not comfortable with Russian you can still try to get a translated version of the tasks in English. Now, my strong recommendation for anyone who is starting their journey is to study English first. And since you are reading this post I assume you have passed that checkpoint already.
