Maya Angelou herinnert ons hier aan iets wezenlijks: “Niets menselijks is ons vreemd.” Alles wat mensen kunnen doen - liefdevol én destructief - behoort tot het menselijke potentieel. Ook dat wat we liever niet in onszelf of een ander willen zien. Juist daarom hebben we een keuze. We kunnen onze energie gebruiken om af te breken of om op te bouwen. Om te verharden of om te groeien. Om te veroordelen of om de menselijkheid van de ander te blijven zien. De grootsheid van mensen als Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Moeder Teresa en Malcolm X laat zien waartoe een mens kan uitreiken wanneer hij boven zijn omstandigheden uitstijgt. We dragen allemaal het volledige menselijke potentieel in ons. De vraag is: wat kiezen wij ermee te doen?
