The massive plane with hundreds of passengers was seconds from disaster after a pilot made a blunder over London. The Airbus A320 stalled twice on its approach to London Heathrow on Flight BA919 from Dusseldorf The incident happened over Canary Wharf (London's financial district), and resulted in a drop of 2,000ft in just four minutes as the speed reduced considerably. It was such a stressful situation in the air that after landing the Captain applied for “stress leave” which was granted.

Tecra Muigai murder case: Family claims Lamu fisherman used charms to control her Tecra Muigai, the 20-year-old daughter of Keroche Breweries boss Tabitha Karanja, met 51-year-old Lamu fisherman Omar Lali in 2019. Her family says he used spiritual powers and a black bag of amulets to trap her mind. She cut off her family, quit her job at Keroche, and sent him hundreds of thousands of shillings within months, including Sh150,000 on two consecutive days in August 2019. On 23 April 2020, Tecra was found with severe head injuries in Shella, Lamu. She had a fractured skull and brain bleeding. She died in Nairobi Hospital on 2 May. Lali claimed she fell drunk down the stairs, but autopsy showed no alcohol or drugs and injuries too severe for a simple fall. He was charged with murder, but the DPP dropped the case in 2020 and ordered an inquest. In October 2024 a judge ruled Lali was responsible and directed the DPP to reinstate charges. The black bag remains central to the family’s claims of control.

MCA Tricky says he was fired from Milele FM, not that he resigned: Comedian and radio presenter MCA Tricky (real name Francis Munyao) has clarified that he did not resign from Milele FM. He was dismissed while in Germany on a three-month engineering exchange programme linked to his master’s studies. Tricky, who joined the station in June 2020 and stayed for six years, said he had formally requested unpaid leave and even submitted the invitation letter for the Germany programme. Management did not approve the leave. One morning while still abroad he opened his email and found a termination message citing financial losses caused by his absence. He pushed back against earlier reports that suggested he simply walked away, stating clearly: “I didn’t leave on my own; I was fired.” Tricky is a trained mechatronics engineer and has indicated he is now focusing on independent digital content while based in Nairobi.

The Kenya Bankers Association has urged CBK to keep the Central Bank Rate at 8.75% ahead of the MPC meeting on August 11. The Association says the current rate supports economic growth, private sector lending and stability of inflation and the shilling.
