🎉 Pantos #2 Audit Results – No Critical Issues Found! We’re excited to announce that our second audit with Common Prefix confirmed no critical issues in our code as well. This thorough review of the on-chain components of Pantos validated that our code is secure and resilient. Here’s what Common Prefix found and how we responded 👇 Common Prefix conducted a detailed audit using manual and automated methods to assess potential vulnerabilities in our key smart contracts, including the PantosHub, forwarder contracts, and token wrappers. The results confirmed that our code has no critical or high-severity issues, reinforcing the strength and reliability of our system. A medium-severity finding was noted regarding the potential risk of token owners updating the forwarder address, which could impact transfer control. However, since the Pantos protocol requires user-signed requests for transactions, unauthorized control is already prevented. No changes were made, as this functionality is secure by design. Key improvements based on audit recommendations included: 1️⃣ Replacing the .transfer() method with .call() to address potential gas limitations and improve protocol compatibility. 2️⃣ Locking the unbonding period during service node unregistration to prevent indefinite extensions, ensuring stability and predictability. 3️⃣ Implementing SafeERC20 in the wrap() function to handle non-standard token behaviour more effectively, maintaining seamless operation across different ERC-20 tokens. The audit also provided informational findings, which led us to make documentation updates for enhanced transparency, such as clarifying role permissions and forwarder validations during token registration. Some suggested changes were not implemented, as they were either unnecessary or would disrupt intended functionality. For example, a proposed check in _verifyTransferTo and an unused internal function were dismissed. Overall, the second audit reinforced that our code is secure, with only minor optimizations required. Most recommendations were not security-critical, affirming our system’s robust design and readiness for real-world application. 🎉 Pantos Audit Results – No Critical Issues Found! We’re excited to announce that our recent security audit with Softstack (formerly known as Chainsulting) confirmed no critical issues in our systems! The audit covered our service & validator nodes as well as smart contracts, validating that our code is secure. Let's take a closer look at the findings 👇 🔍 Key Findings Softstack used both manual review and automated tools to thoroughly assess our code, looking for vulnerabilities and potential improvements. The audit confirmed our architecture works securely as designed, with most suggestions requiring no changes. The audit initially flagged a high severity finding related to the absence of a slashing mechanism in our staking system. However, this was a misunderstanding – service nodes can at most delay transfers, with no risk of real harm. Therefore, we renamed the service node stake to ‘deposit’ to avoid future misunderstandings. This terminology better reflects its purpose within our system. No changes to our functionality or security were necessary. 🛠️ Two Main Takeaways from the Audit Of the suggestions provided, two stood out as key improvements we implemented immediately: 1️⃣ Unbounded Loops in Token/Node Unregistration 2️⃣ Immediate Parameter Changes Pose Risk of System Instability 🔧 Unbounded Loops in Token/Node Unregistration: Softstack highlighted that unregistration could lead to higher gas fees and delays due to inefficiencies. We’ve optimized this to improve performance and reduce costs for users. 🔧 Immediate Parameter Changes and System Stability: This finding noted that certain parameter changes could destabilize the system if applied suddenly. We made adjustments to prevent any potential instability, ensuring smooth operations. All other audit suggestions were smaller optimizations that did not impact security. Our system design already handled these efficiently, so only minor tweaks were needed where useful. We’re pleased to say this first round confirmed Pantos’ security. It’s a strong foundation as we move forward, and we’ll keep optimizing based on audit feedback and upcoming stress tests and pen testing. 🛡️Security first This audit affirmed our commitment to security. Soon, the results from our second audit will be available, providing even more valuable insights into our security approach and the robustness of our protocol and components. Our Q3 Pantos Token Report & Financial Overview is here! As we approach the mainnet launch, we’re proud to share our strong financial position and the strategic planning that’s setting us up for what's next! As part of the Bitpanda ecosystem, Pantos benefits from a shared vision and continuous support. Together with academic research, this has enabled us to focus on building a secure, reliable solution for blockchain interoperability. From our 2018 ICO, we raised approximately €4M in crypto assets, and through strategic management, our portfolio has grown to €21M. This puts us in a strong position to support our upcoming initiatives and continued development. As of October 2024, the circulating supply is 568.9M PAN, an increase of 11.5M PAN from Q2. Most of this is currently held on Bitpanda, but with our upcoming token migration and exchange listings, we expect to see a broader distribution outside of Bitpanda. Here's what's new: 🔧 CI/CD Enhancements: We’ve strengthened our continuous integration and deployment pipelines, ensuring smoother updates and secure deployments. 🐳 Docker Compose: Streamlined Service Nodes setups make deployment faster and more consistent. 🔎 Health Monitoring: Service Nodes now check the health of blockchain providers, adding extra reliability. 🔐 Multisig Implementation: We’ve implemented validator multisignatures for enhanced security during the initial phase, providing robust protection as we gear up for launch. 📃 Audit Results: The first audit results for our smart contracts are in, and we’re happy to report no critical issues. While there were some suggestions from the auditors, we are confident in our system’s security and have started implementing the corresponding tests that demonstrate our system capabilities. 🧪 Enhanced Testing Protocols: We’ve introduced comprehensive testing protocols. 💡 Pantos May Development Insights Let’s reflect on Pantos’ progress in May. We transitioned to fully open-source development, ensuring full transparency in our work. No more code snapshots - ongoing PRs and community contributions are now openly accessible, enhancing collaborative efforts. We’ve made substantial enhancements to our Continuous Integration (CI) systems. These improvements automate testing, compile metrics, and flag security issues promptly, ensuring Pantos remains a secure and robust platform. A major development in May was our adoption of the modular ERC-2535 standard for smart contracts, also known as Diamonds. This approach allows for multiple logical contracts to function as a single contract, addressing the code size limits set by EIP-170 and significantly enhancing flexibility and upgradability. These initiatives are crucial as we prepare for the upcoming mainnet launch of Pantos. Each advancement brings us closer to a more transparent, secure, and community-driven ecosystem.
