Over the past several months, I've had the privilege of narrating the audiobook of Julius Evola's "The Mystery of the Grail", and I'm pleased to announce that it is now available on Audible and other major platforms. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the deeper symbolism of the Grail tradition. Evola goes beyond the typical examination of the myths and legends of the Grail as a literary curiosity, a flattened religious allegory, moral lessons, or psychological symbolism. Instead, he approaches the subject as the expression of a genuine initiatic tradition whose roots reach far beyond the Middle Ages. Whether one agrees with all of his conclusions or not, it remains one of the most ambitious attempts to uncover the deeper spiritual meaning behind the Grail tradition. https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Mystery-of-the-Grail-Audiobook/B0H2MV7W7K?qid=1782238486&sr=1-4&ref_pageloadid=not_applicable&pf_rd_p=83218cca-c308-412f-bfcf-90198b687a2f&pf_rd_r=5K6S6AQ6TK0G76X02KVQ&plink=m75rBvbdTWYrJtAo&pageLoadId=XmCFg8NXEPrNJxin&creativeId=0d6f6720-f41c-457e-a42b-8c8dceb62f2c&ref=a_search_c3_lProduct_1_4
On this day 128 years ago, Giulio Cesare Evola, who would go down in history as Baron Julius Evola, was born in the eternal city of Rome. Philosopher, warrior, esoteric scholar and practitioner, artist, critic of modernity, and visionary of a Sacred European Empire — the indomitable Julius Evola was, is, and will remain a special source for a new European Renaissance. Since 2009, Arktos has been carrying forth Evola’s torch by bringing English-language translations of Evola’s works to generations of readers. One culmination of this is the recent publication of the first ever biography of Evola: Julius Evola: An Adventurous Life by Andrea Scarabelli. Also fresh off the Arktos press is Evola’s The Woman Problem, soon to be followed by an expanded edition of Metaphysics of War — and more coming soon! The man of the future is he who has the longest memory. Evola remembered the essential founts of our spirit and culture, and we owe it to the Baron and ourselves to recollect and pass along this memory today and tomorrow. Tradition is not the preservation of ashes, but the transmission of fire.
"The Soul of Chivalry" is being screened at the Hermetic Film Festival in Venice, but they also have online screenings. It's running for another 3 days and there are some really interesting films in this festival that you probably won't be able to see easily elsewhere. All of the films have some kind of spiritual or esoteric angle, so maybe worth checking out if you are interested in that kind of thing. https://www.hermeticfilmfestival.com/home

Bhagavad-gītā 2.3 is where Kṛṣṇa chastises Arjuna for his indecision and lamentation. Kṛṣṇa says: “kṣudraṁ hṛdaya-daurbalyam,” meaning that Arjuna has allowed petty weakness of heart to enter and ruin his resolve. This word, “kṣudraṁ,” is worth noting. It comes from Śūdra, one of the Vedic varṇas. The Śūdras are forbidden from studying the Vedas. The word means “one who laments.” So Śūdras are filled with petty lamentations. These petty lamentations come from being unable to indulge in sense gratification, and in their lamentations they turn to other sense indulgences. We see this in society — the alcoholic, the prostitute-chaser, the drug addict — they all have some basic lamentation grounded in being given an “unfair deal” or a “bad hand.” This mindset — that the world owes me something, that I have a harder situation than others, and by such justifications turn to drugs, alcohol, and degrading acts — is the meaning of Śūdra. The Śūdra is śucati — one who laments. Such divine chastisement comes from causeless mercy. We should hear this chastisement as directed at ourselves. Find that which you lament, always, and root it out. Cut the knot of millions of lives' of indecision, lamentation and poor choices with the sword of Yoga.
Happy Yule and Merry Christmas from the PhilosophiCats!
Film Review: PhilosophiCat’s Soul of Chivalry James Traven reviews PhilosophiCat’s ‘The Soul of Chivalry’ as a visually striking, mythopoetic documentary that distills Julius Evola’s teachings on chivalry, initiation, and transcendence, invoking the lost spiritual ideals of knighthood and urging viewers towards inner transformation amid the decadence of the modern age. This is such a great review from Arktos on “The Soul of Chivalry” that it makes me want to watch my own film again!
Secret Fire Julius Evola A diverse collection of rare or unpublished documents, many of which come from the archives of the J. Evola Foundation, which supplement what is known about his “spiritual biography”: numerous correspondences with 20th-century personalities, forgotten interviews, essays, letters dedicated to art, sketches published for the first time, “magical” entries rejected by the Treccani Encyclopedia, the “ideal manifesto” of the Diorama Filosofico column, two chapters of Revolt Against the Modern World deleted by the author over the years, an erotic story, and much more. https://tradition.st/secret-fire/
Long in the works and finally finished... my stack on the coming religious revival, as heralded by a rare outer planet alignment. Don't get too excited though— not all that glitters is gold. This isn't a new Golden Age, but the late autumn of Spengler's "Second Religiousness", a false renewal born of a desperate and dying civilisation. Can something genuinely sacred still emerge from it? Yes, but in a quiet and unexpected form. Link: https://open.substack.com/pub/philosophicat/p/ashes-of-the-age-the-astrology-of?r=1bepqq&utm_medium=ios

Just wanted to respond to the disappointment around the use of AI in this film, as I know people have legitimate concerns… First of all, the trailer is far more AI heavy than the actual film is. There were a number of reasons for why that happened which I wont go into, but the film is probably about 50% real footage and 50% AI or using AI enhancements. We also have a few traditional CGI clips. Why did we do it like this? Well, not because it was the cheaper and easier route! It’s actually considerably more expensive and far more time consuming than just using stock footage. Our subscription costs for these services ran several hundred dollars a month and it wasn’t uncommon to have to spend 2-3 days finessing a single clip that would only be on the screen for a few seconds. In past episodes, we’ve relied exclusively on stock footage, and that worked while the episodes were still dealing with primarily with concepts that could be represented abstractly and thematically. But in this episode, we’re dealing with a specific historical time period and that needs to be represented more literally in some cases. There simply isn’t much stock footage that can fill this gap. Most of what’s available is a bunch of fat modern people at Renaissance festivals, wearing cheap and ill-fitting costumes. They simply don’t have the physiognomy to be convincing in those roles and it looked absolutely ridiculous trying to use them to discuss a subject of seriousness. And even if we had gritted our teeth and used that stuff, it still wouldn’t have been enough to fill 2 hours. We put considerable time and effort into developing the AI sections, knowing that our audience would have strong opinions about it, and we feel that it is tastefully done. You won’t find any 6-fingered people, for example! This is primarily an artwork, so making it look good was a top priority. So I hope those of you who feel initially put off by it will keep an open mind and give it a chance. We did our best to make this film artistic and representative of the higher vision Evola tries to convey within the limitations of our budget. It has won awards at multiple film festivals at this point, so hopefully that inspires some confidence in the production quality of the film. 🙏
