READ: Isaiah 59:1-8 [1]. Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. [2]. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perversity. [4]. No one calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth. EXPOSITION Prayer is a special way by which we communicate with God and receive His answers. However, some things can block our prayers from reaching Him. One of the greatest obstacles is sin. Just as water can put out fire, sin extinguishes the power of our prayers. Isaiah 59-1-2 make it clear that sin separates us from God, forming a barrier that prevents our prayers from being heard. God is holy and anything impure cannot stand in His presence. Psalm 66:18 says, _If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear._ Sin blocks us from reaching God's throne of grace, where prayers are answered. Even though there are more prayer houses, ministers and mountains than ever, many prayers are still hindered by widespread sins in the society. Bloodshed, corruption, lies and injustice are just a few examples (Isa. 59:3-5). These sins act as prayer terminators, cutting off our connection with God. To overcome this, we must confess and turn away from sin. We need to approach God with clean hands and pure hearts. When we repent, God, in His mercy, forgives us and listens to our prayers. Today, remove all hindrances, so that our prayers can bring testimonies. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, cleanse me of all sins that block my prayers 2. Father, destroy every prayer terminator in my life. 3. Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebekah, the one who stole his brother's birthright and obtained the blessing by deceit. Jacob had received the blessing but he needed to be pruned. He had his first personal encounter with God as he fled from Esau (Genesis 28:10-22). Sometimes, afflictions are capable of bringing us to a place of divine encounter. Jacob would probably not have encountered God like this had he remained in his father's house. This encounter moved him to make a vow that if God would be with him, he would serve Him and give Him a tithe of everything he got. It is therefore unwise to think that tithing began under the law when tithing actually began with Abraham (Genesis 14:20). Jacob went to stay with his uncle, Laban, where he had a series of experiences that eventually brought him to a place of brokenness and humility. After serving for a wife for seven years, Laban gave Jacob the wrong wife and made him serve for another seven years to get his rightful wife. He changed Jacob's wages ten times (Genesis 31:7). At this point, Jacob had been sufficiently broken to carry on the blessing. Genesis 32:24-30 reveals how Jacob fought with God to receive his blessing and a change of name to Israel. Despite being the recipient of the generational blessing, he still had to fight to get into its full operation. Sometimes, trials serve to completely rid the children of God of pride and bring them into complete surrender. By Genesis 48, Jacob had walked with God for a considerable length of time and knew His perfect will. By faith, he blessed not only the sons of Joseph, but also his own sons, concerning things to come. From Jacob, we learn that God can work through the most unlikely individuals. He may allow His children to go through unpleasant experiences in order to prune them and perfect their faith in Him. If you are experiencing a season of pruning, ask God to help you learn the lessons quickly so that the season will be shorter. EXPOSITION The cross is not just something we carry as a burden, it is a call to stand for the Truth in a world that often rejects God and His ways. Today, we live in a time where evil is celebrated and corruption is seen as normal. To carry the cross means to stand up for what is right and follow the example of Jesus. It is about showing love, patience, kindness and compassion to others, even when it is difficult to do so. Carrying the cross also means being bold in sharing the Gospel. It is about helping others to know Jesus and saving them from being separated from God forever. This is the most important mission of every Christian. If we refuse to take up the cross and share the message of salvation, we are not truly following Jesus. The cross reminds us that we are God's representatives here on earth. Our lives must show His love and truth, even when the path is hard. When we carry the cross faithfully, heaven celebrates, because we are doing what God has called us to do. The cross may feel heavy at times, but it always leads to victory and eternal joy in Christ. PRAYER POINTS: 1. Lord, help me to live faithfully as Your disciple each day 2. But carrying the cross as a follower of Christ is different -- it is often tough and uncomfortable. In Roman times, the cross was used as a punishment for slaves and criminals. It symbolised shame and suffering. Jesus, even though He was innocent, endured this punishment. He carried His cross through the streets of Jerusalem, hearing insults and being mocked. He suffered and died the shameful death of a criminal. Why? Because He loved us and came to save us. He gave His life so that we could have eternal life. Jesus calls everyone who wants to follow Him to deny themselves and take up their cross daily. This means we must put aside our own desires and be ready to face challenges and sacrifices for Him. Carrying the cross may bring rejection or hardship, but it also shows our true commitment to Christ. True discipleship is about accepting the cost of following Jesus. If we refuse to carry our cross, we are not truly His followers. The cross teaches us to trust Him and remain loyal, no matter the circumstances. PRAYER POINTS: 1. 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝔼𝕊𝕊𝔸𝔾𝔼: Isaac, the promised son of Abraham and Sarah, grew up in the ways of the Lord. Hence, he also was listed as a hero of faith. He learnt from his father the promises of God for him and his descendants and passed the same down to his sons. Isaac was birthed by faith and he lived his entire life by faith. This faith was then transferred to his sons such that Jacob admitted that the "Fear of Isaac" had been with him (Genesis 31:42). From childhood, Isaac had seen his father walk with God and he had inherited his father's faith. He knew how God had provided a ram to prevent Abraham from sacrificing him (Genesis 22:1-14). He had already encountered God as Jehovah Jireh through his father. This is instructive for fathers. It is important that your children know God through you and serve Him because of your own example. Genesis 26 provides a record of Isaac's own encounter with God. It is not enough for children to know the God of their father; they also require their own personal encounter to strengthen their faith. Isaac walked with God. Like his father before him, he lived like a stranger, dwelling in tabernacles in the land of promise. In the time of famine, he obeyed God's instruction to remain where he was and he reaped a hundredfold harvest. He entreated the Lord for his wife, Rebekah, and God answered (Genesis 25:21). Isaac knew and served the God of Abraham as his God. Hebrews says that Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau by faith. Even though he hadn't seen the manifestation, he believed that God would fulfil His promises to Abraham and he blessed his sons accordingly. From Isaac, we learn that faith can be passed down a generation. There are promises that are not just for us, but for our descendants. She is the first woman on this prestigious list and she is subsumed under Abraham, her husband. 🤔What lessons are there to learn from this woman? ✔️First of all, Sarah was a submissive wife. The Bible says that she called her husband, 'lord.' 1ST PETER 3:5-6 describes true beauty using Sarah as an example. Sarah, as much as she had her own opinions, still respected Abraham as the head of the house so she didn't take any action without his approval, including in the matter of Hagar (GENESIS 16:1-6, 21:9-12). 👉Here is a great lesson for women: do not usurp your husband's authority.👈 Husbands should however note that submission does not mean subjugating or relegating their wives. ✔️Another important point is that Sarah served the God of her husband. This is also from the place of submission. Most times, God spoke to Abraham who then passed the message to Sarah but she still believed. She didn't doubt her husband and his God. She did not wait until God spoke to her directly. She followed her husband's example of faith. When Sarah laughed in GENESIS 18, she denied it because she was afraid. She had enough fear of God to not laugh at His promises to His face. Many of us, like Sarah, laugh at divine promises because we don't see the possibilities of them coming to pass but we need to operate in faith. Sarah's faith must have been awakened at that time because it was in that season she conceived. 🤔Are you, like Sarah, trying to help God? Every attempt to play God will end in futility. It was when Sarah's faith was awakened that she conceived her child and received her miracle. 👉Beloved, it's not enough to know God's promises for you, you should also tenaciously hold on to those promises in faith, believing that they will come to pass. The Bible teaches that diligent planning leads to prosperity, while careless decisions lead to poverty. Many rush into financial decisions without proper thought, resulting in waste and struggles. However, careful planning allows us to make smarter, informed choices that honour God. Diligent planning involves budgeting, saving and prioritising needs over wants. It helps us avoid profligacy or making impulsive purchases that can lead to debt. Financial prudence enables us to use resources wisely, ensuring we meet our needs and are generous to others. Our text reminds us that success comes from intentional, thoughtful decisions. Planning with care helps us to be good stewards of the resources God has given us. As we plan, we must remember that God is the Source of all provision. We should trust Him with our finances and seek His guidance in every decision.
