Q4/ symbolism /// 1- The Sea :The sea is a symbol of the dominant natural powers. 1- البحر: البحر رمز للقوى الطبيعية المهيمنة. 2- The Marlin : Represents the ultimate opponent, one that brings out the best in Santiago. 2- المارلين: يمثل الخصم النهائي ، الخصم الذي يبرز أفضل ما في سانتياغو. 3- The Sharks : Santiago considered the sharks base predators, not worthy of glory. They represents destructive forces in life that’s serve no parpose. 3- أسماك القرش: اعتبرت سانتياغو أن أسماك القرش مفترسة لا تستحقها مجد. إنهم يمثلون قوى مدمرة في الحياة 4- The lion : Santiago of the Lions three times in America they represent the virility and youth, the lion imagery at the end of novella represents hope of eternal life. 4- الأسد: سانتياغو من الأسود ثلاث مرات في أمريكا يمثلون الرجولة والشباب ، وصور الأسد في نهاية الرواية تمثل رجاء الحياة الأبدية. 5- The lost of harpoon : Santiago loses his hard work as he fends off Sharks. Symbolic of individual who lost their faith as life's woes attack 5- ضياع الحربة: يفقد سانتياغو عمله الشاق وهو يصد أسماك القرش. رمزية لفرد فقد إيمانه كما تهاجم ويلات الحياة.

Q2/ Manolin The friendship between Santiago and Manolin plays a critical part in Santiago's victory over the marlin . In return for Santiago's mentorship and company, Manolin provides physical support to Santiago in the village, bringing him food and clothing and helping him load his skiff . He also provides emotional support, encouraging Santiago throughout his unlucky streak. Although Santiago's "hope and confidence had never gone," when Manolin was present, "they were freshening as when the breeze rises." And once he encounters the marlin, Santiagos refuses to accept defeat because he knows Manolin would be disappointed in him.
