Farewell, Neak Roth, my dearest friend… My Dearest Friend, Although no words can adequately express the immeasurable and unbreakable bonds of friendship that united us, nor the immense sorrow that has overwhelmed me, I wish to pay you one final tribute—you who have always been my dearest friend. I was twelve years old and a student at Sisowath High School when fate brought our paths together. You were then a student at Preah Norodom Girls’ College. From that moment onward, we shared everything in life together: our joys and happiness, but also every hardship and struggle we faced through adversity. You were always by my side, offering me your unwavering support and encouragement. You also served the Kingdom of Cambodia with exemplary loyalty, faithfully serving His Late Majesty King-Father Preah Borom Ratanak Kaudh, of Venerated Memory, and His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, with the quiet competence of one whose unwavering commitment, humility, and devotion embody the highest ideals of a great servant of the State. For you, who lived a life illuminated by the virtue that also enriched our friendship, I am certain that the gates of Heaven are open to receive you. [Unofficial Translation] HIS MAJESTY NORODOM SIHAMONI KING OF CAMBODIA To His Excellency Mr. Emmanuel Macron President of the French Republic ⸻ Mr. President, On the occasion of the National Day of the French Republic, the Cambodian people join me in extending to Your Excellency, as well as to the people of France, our warmest congratulations and best wishes. The Kingdom of Cambodia attaches the highest importance to the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite us with the French Republic. Built upon mutual trust, reciprocal esteem, and shared values, our relations have continued to grow stronger over the years, both bilaterally and within multilateral frameworks. I am pleased with the excellent quality of our partnership and remain confident that it will continue to deepen for the benefit of our two peoples and in the service of peace, dialogue, mutual understanding, and sustainable development. I am particularly pleased at the prospect of welcoming Your Excellency to the Kingdom of Cambodia in the near future. I am convinced that this visit will provide fresh momentum to our partnership, promote the expansion of our cooperation in areas of common interest, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two countries. As members of the great Francophone family, the Kingdom of Cambodia highly appreciates France’s steadfast commitment to the values of La Francophonie.
