Listening tips ✨ It is the easiest section in the entire test, and it’s easier to improve than you think! For those who are just starting: Stop watching content in your language. Switch. I said what I said, and that would be enough for you to upgrade to the next level. Everything you listen to - news, entertainment, reels, TikToks, vlogs, podcasts - must be in English. When I just started learning English/going to IELTS classes, I created a strict rule for myself: anything I listen to must be in English. That meant no more Russian content. And it would be nice for you to do the same. It will be terribly uncomfortable, but that’s where the growth will happen! So… ⸻ • Subtitles are important! Many students think it is better to listen to something without subtitles (as though they are for the “weak”), but that’s completely the opposite! I always had my subtitles on, no matter what. They help you target multiple areas at once (spelling -you see how to write words correctly, and you learn new vocabulary in context, which makes it more memorable). Doesn’t it sound exciting? Here’s a nice method you can try: Choose a short video (even if it feels a bit difficult) around 4–5 minutes long. •Watch it several times with subtitles, and pay attention to the words, expressions, and sentence structure •On your final watch, turn the subtitles off and see how much you understand That’s how you train your brain to process speech naturally. ⸻ • For those taking the test soon: Concentration is your EVERYTHING. (Prioritize it) I could’ve gotten a 7.0 in my test if I wasn’t focused. The smartest person out there can miss the important part and not get a high score. If you miss one, don’t overthink -just go to the next question, or else you’ll miss everything else while you’re silently scolding yourself! • Always PREDICT It’s easy to guess the answer, actually. Develop a habit of always imagining what the speech will sound like, and make your own version of it. (Obviously, you won’t do that on test day, but as you practice, you’ll get used to predicting without thinking much.) And you’ll be surprised how many times you’ll guess it right. ⸻ Spelling is often overlooked That’s why I said: don’t turn off subtitles. You listen, you read, you see. It becomes second nature for you to spell words correctly! I’ve never had problems with spelling myself (except barbecue and barbeque 😂), so I know what I’m talking about.

It’s been a while since I took my ELTS test but today I’m here to share some tips for getting a high score in Listening/Readings sections (because I think many people here know me for this 😆) that helped me to score 9.0’s in both of them! Today, let’s make it about reading! Here are the 3 things that might seem obvious or unimportant but actually were the game changers for me! •Question analysis is more than essential! Analyzing questions thoroughly before you go to the passage is something i always mention when I teach. You’d better spend 5-6 minutes FULLY understanding what each question asks you for than purposelessly read the passage without understanding why you’re reading it and wasting your precious time! •Books are your best friends I’m not telling you to love books just because I do. But having a piece of writing that you would read regularly and make it something habitual would make the preparation much easier. Pick a topic you’re interested in and choose a book about it, then try to read 5-10 pages EVERY day. I think there are more benefits to this than it is assumed by many, like expanding your attention span (you train your brain to stay focused and on track for longer each time), getting used to English language in general, and learning something new! •Childlike curiosity always helps! Make reading exciting. Whoever made you guys think it’s hard and boring was not right at all. Every passage you have, every article you read, every book you’re holding is unique and contains knowledge. Imagine you’re a kid and are thirsty for knowledge - yes, you’re unprepared, doubtful, inexperienced, but you’re curious. And honestly every reaction to it is valid as long as it’s not indifference!( I know that being curious and interested is the last thing your brain would do on test day because you’re stressed, but during your preparation you can teach yourself to love reading and the language you’re reading in.) I know these are not common but that’s what worked for me and I hope will be useful for you too! Real art is obsessive and powerful. It always goes beyond admiration - and when admiration isn’t enough, the ultimate act of worship is implementation. You let it possess you, haunt you, shape you by tiny pieces.
