The July 15 PPI was -0.3% against a 0% forecast with 0.6% prior. That's a massive cold miss. Gold's reaction: nothing. It continued grinding sideways and lower through late July before eventually breaking out in early August. The PPI print was irrelevant. What triggered the actual breakout was the Hormuz deal collapse + NFP -23K landing in sequence. NFP -23K with another -103K in revisions means the Fed cannot hike regardless of what PPI prints. Markets know this.
