UAE Updates

This question can expose what your heart really loves. When no one needs you. When there are no messages to answer. When one task is done and the next has not begun. When you are free, alone, and no one is watching. Where does your mind go? Does it turn to Qur’an? Dhikr? Dua? Seeking knowledge? Or does it run straight to Instagram, money, business, Netflix, sports, news, or the next thing you want from this world? That moment matters. Because your heart always has somewhere it returns to when nothing else is pulling it. Allah said: قُلْ إِن كَانَ آبَاؤُكُمْ وَأَبْنَاؤُكُمْ وَإِخْوَانُكُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُكُمْ وَعَشِيرَتُكُمْ وَأَمْوَالٌ اقْتَرَفْتُمُوهَا وَتِجَارَةٌ تَخْشَوْنَ كَسَادَهَا وَمَسَاكِنُ تَرْضَوْنَهَا أَحَبَّ إِلَيْكُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَجِهَادٍ فِي سَبِيلِهِ فَتَرَبَّصُوا حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَ اللَّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ “Say, [O Muhammad], ‘If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein you fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and Jihad in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command...’” (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:24) The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, in the body there is a piece of flesh. If it is sound, the whole body is sound, and if it is corrupt, the whole body is corrupt. Indeed, it is the heart.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, 52) Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Indeed, there is a void within the heart that nothing can ever fill except Allah, the Exalted. Within it is a scatteredness that nothing can gather except turning wholeheartedly to Him. Within it is a sickness that nothing can heal except sincere devotion to Him and worshipping Him alone. The heart continually presses its owner until it finds rest and tranquillity with its Lord and the One it worships.” (Ighathah al-Lahfan, 1/118) Your heart has habits. It has places it runs to for comfort. Things it reaches for without being told. Things it thinks about when there is finally silence. That does not mean every passing thought exposes you, or is blameworthy. But what your mind keeps returning to says something about what your heart has grown attached to. And if that makes you uncomfortable, do not run from it. Notice it. Because hearts can change. Wondering how? Read the Qur’an every day, even if it is one page. Keep your tongue busy with Dhikr. Sit in gatherings of knowledge. Stay close to people who remind you of Allah. And keep making the Du‘a the Prophet ﷺ taught: يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ “O Turner of the hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.” (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, 3522) A heart does not change because of one emotional reminder. It changes through what you keep feeding it. What you look at. What you listen to. What you repeat. What you make time for. What you return to. And if you keep turning your heart towards Allah, something begins to change. And it can be noticed: You may get a quiet moment, and instead of reaching for your phone, you remember Him. You may finish your work, and your heart starts longing for the Qur’an. You may be alone waiting in your car, and Dhikr comes to your tongue without anyone reminding you. That is a gift.
