  • Jay Swaminarayan The parenting team are reviewing how best we support parents. As apart of this we would like you to answer the following questions:

  • Maternal mental health refers to the emotional well-being of mothers during pregnancy and the postnatal period. It encompasses the range of feelings and experiences mothers may encounter, including stress, anxiety, and depression. It's common for new mothers to feel overwhelmed, and up to 1 in 5 may experience mental health issues during this time, known as the perinatal period, which surrounds birth. It is important we start to understand and address these issues as a community. • BAPS Kids, is a new YouTube channel that posts inspiring content for children and parents. One of the premier series is Little Big Talks, a monthly segment where children of Indian origin living around the world share insights related to their heritage, spirituality, and holistic development. Joining the premiere episode is Jay Patel, a bright student from Kampala, Uganda. He shares invaluable strategies for achieving a healthier balance between digital and real-world experiences, offering a unique perspective that can inspire us all. • Neurodiversity is based on the idea that everyone has a differently wired brain and their own unique way of thinking and experiencing the world. We as parents should welcome this idea and understand that every child is unique in their own way.

  • "Parents of university students, today is #UniMentalHealthDay, a reminder to support our kids' well-being during their academic journey. 🎓 Let's check in with them, encourage self-care practices, and normalise conversations about mental health. Together, we can provide the understanding and support they need to thrive both academically and emotionally. 💙 #ParentSupport

  • “Vartan Vatu Karshe.” This simply means that the way you act and behave every day, will speak louder than words. A child’s relationship with their parent or caregiver can be one of the most important that they'll have in their life. As a parent, you are your child’s first teacher, and your actions often say much more than the words you use. Param Pujya Mahant Swami Maharaj on the other hand has no problem constantly connecting to and being compassionate to children, despite being the Guru of BAPS. Reflecting on how Swami would approach any situation will help you as parents be great role models for your children.

  • From 5-11 February 2024, schools, families and communities across the UK will take part in Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is “My Voice Matters.” As parents we play a key role in our child’s mental health. You can begin to encourage your child to share their thoughts and feelings through creative outlets like art, writing, or even talking. Be a supportive listener and foster an open environment at home. Your understanding and validation can make a significant impact on their mental well-being. To find out more visit the Place2be website to download free resources that will help you explore mental health and wellbeing with your child. https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/families/#resources

  • 27th of January is Parent Mental Health Day. As parents it can be common for us to put the needs of our family before our own, and hard to find time to prioritise your own selfcare. Over time this can lead to feelings of overwhelm and burnout. Developing effective coping strategies to help manage your stress can have a significant positive impact for your mental health, and in turn for your family.

  • As Ayodhya’s sacred Ram Mandir opens its door, let’s draw inspiration from Lord Ram’s journey – a tale of love, virtue and guiding with wisdom. Lord Ram was known for his compassion and kindness towards all living beings. He treated everyone with respect and dignity and even forgave his enemy Ravana. Lord Ram teaches us to treat others with respect and kindness, and that forgiveness is a powerful tool -   Parent with love and compassion

  • Importance of self-care as a parent Making time for yourself as a parent is extremely important. It can be very difficult juggling family life, satsang and looking after the children and elderly. When do you make time for your wellbeing? When do you spend time for yourselves? Taking care of your wellbeing; mentally, physically and emotionally will help you become a better partner and parent. • Parenting is one of the most complex jobs in the world and it doesn’t come with any training or an extension number we can dial for “technical” support. The start of a new year is a great time to take a step back and look at how you are taking care of yourself and your family. What are you doing right? Celebrate that first! We’re all just learning as we go. We’re bound to make mistakes, so use them as an opportunity to learn, and grow. What’s happened in 2023 is a learning and growing opportunity.

  • Acknowledging and embracing small achievements can contribute to a positive and resilient parenting journey. As we wrap up 2023, explore the significance of celebrating small victories as a parent in this insightful blog post: https://www.extraordinarykidstherapy.net/blog/the-importance-of-celebrating-tiny-wins-as-a-parent
