The difference between Al-Fawā'id and Badāʾiʿul-Fawāʾid by Ibnul-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah Al-Fawāʾid: A book of the heart, spiritual conduct, and tawḥīd. It presents each insight briefly and illuminatingly, often in a form that stands on its own. Badāʾiʿul-Fawāʾid: A book of scholarship and detailed investigation. Its subject matter covers various disciplines, with a strong emphasis on grammar and linguistics. Its approach involves transmission, critical examination, and extended discussion. So, in a concise formulation: The first is the fruit of knowledge in the heart; the second is the craft of knowledge in its investigation and verification. https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Ālush-Shaykh — may Allah preserve him — said: “The writings of Shaykhul-Islām [Ibn Taymiyyah] — may Allah have mercy on him — concerning creed are varied. The way to understand his words is therefore to master the concise works: Al-Wāsiṭiyyah Al-Ḥamawiyyah Al-Tadmuriyyah These three works are important for understanding the writings of Shaykhul-Islām, understanding his theological position and methodology, and understanding how he formulates and presents issues. Therefore, for a student of knowledge to understand Shaykhul-Islām’s words in his longer works, his Fatāwā, and his lengthy answers, he must thoroughly master these three concise works. This is why the scholars would teach students these three concise works before reading the longer works with them.” — Lecture Series, 4/574 https://t.me/Sh_Soolih_AalushShaykh_English
SHAYKHUL-ISLĀM IBN TAYMIYYAH (d. 728) and his passion for Reading and Research Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAbdil-Hādī (d. 744) — his student — said in Mukhtaṣar Ṭabaqāt ʿUlamāʾil-Ḥadīth [4/282]. He transmitted this statement and completed it from some of the early companions of the Shaykh, mentioning some of his attributes: "His soul could hardly be satiated with knowledge, nor quenched by reading, nor weary of occupation, nor tire of research. Rarely would he enter into any science, in any of its chapters, except that doors from that chapter would be opened for him, and he would deduce things in that science surpassing its most skillful experts." See "Al-ʿUqūd Ad-Durriyyah" p. 7 And Shaykh Muḥammad Khalīl al-Harrās in his book Ibn Taymiyyah As-Salafī p. 27, said: "Ibn Taymiyyah had piercing insight and an aspiring soul that could hardly be satiated with knowledge, nor tire of research, nor be quenched by reading, along with his dedication to that, devoting himself to it, and directing his ambition towards it, to the extent that he did not cease researching and authoring throughout his life in Shām or in Miṣr, in prison or at home. Indeed, he would suffer pain and sorrow when they took the books and papers away from him in the final days of his life..." See "Al-Jāmiʿ li-Sīrat Shaykhil-Islām - Al-Fahāris" [p. 751, 760 The Reading of Shaykhul-Islām While He Was Sick Al-Imām Ibnul-Qayyim said in Rawḍatul-Muḥibbīn p. 70: "Our Shaykh — meaning Ibn Taymiyyah — narrated to me, saying: 'An illness came upon me, so the physician said to me: "Verily, your reading and your speaking about knowledge will increase the illness." I said to him: "I cannot bear that, and I will judge you according to your own science. Is it not true that if the soul is happy, the nature strengthens and repels the disease?" He said: "Yes." I said to him: "Then verily, my soul is delighted by knowledge, so my nature is strengthened by it and I find relief." He said: "This is outside of our medical treatment..." And Ibnul-Qayyim also said: And I know of one who was afflicted with an illness of a headache and a fever, and the book was at his head. Whenever he found a moment of lucidity, he would read from it, and when he was overcome, he would put it down. The physician entered upon him one day while he was in this state and said: 'Verily, this is not permissible for you, for you are aiding against yourself and becoming a cause for the loss of your objective.' https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub

IBN DURAYD (d. 321) and His Passion for Knowledge and Books Abū Naṣr al-Mīkālī said: "We were discussing scenic resorts one day while Ibn Durayd was present. Some of them said: 'The most scenic of places is the Ghūṭah of Dimashq.' Others said: 'Rather, it is the River of al-Ubullah.' Others said: 'Rather, it is the Sughd of Samarqand.' Some of them said: 'The Nahrawān of Baghdād.' Some of them said: 'The ravine of Shiʿb Bawwān.' And some of them said: 'Nawbahār of Balkh.'" He (meaning Ibn Durayd) said: "These are the resorts of the eyes, but where are you compared to the resorts of the hearts?" We asked: "And what are they, O Abā Bakr?" He said: "ʿUyūnul-Akhbār" by Al-Quttābī, "Az-Zahrah" by Ibn Dāwūd, "Qalaqul-Mushtāq" by Ibn Abī Ṭāhir. Then he began to recite: ومَـــن تَـــكُ نُـزهَـتَــهُ قِـيــنَـــــةٌ وكَـأْسٌ تَــحَـثُّ وكَـأْسٌ تُـصَـبّ And whose recreation is a singing slave girl, with one cup urged on and another poured out, فَنُـزهَــتُنَــــا واسـتِـــراحَــتُـنَــــا تَـلاقـي العُـيـونِ ودَرْسُ الكُـتُــبْ Then our recreation and our rest are the meeting of eyes and the study of books. 📌 MAKE THIS A PRINCIPLE: لا يخلو كتاب من فائدة ! No book is devoid of benefit The principle that "no book is devoid of benefit" was cited by Ibnul-Jawzī in Ṣaydul-Khāṭir (p. 411). While advising the student of knowledge, he wrote: «"Let him strive to sit with the scholars... and acquire books, for no book is devoid of benefit."» This principle is likewise reflected in the literary philosophy of 'Abbas al-'Aqqad. https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub
Imam Abū Muḥammad Ibn Ḥazm (d. 456 AH) wrote in his treatise Marātib al-ʿUlūm (The Categories of Sciences) that among the pillars of seeking knowledge is acquiring a large collection of books. He said: «"Acquire an abundance of books, for no book is devoid of benefit. Within them is knowledge that a person will find when the need arises. It is impossible for anyone to memorise everything within their field of knowledge, and since that is unattainable, books serve as the finest repository for what one cannot retain.» «Were it not for books, the sciences would have vanished and disappeared. It is a mistake for anyone to criticise acquiring many books. If such an opinion were accepted, the sciences would perish, and the ignorant would contend with the scholars, claiming whatever they wished. For were it not for the testimony of books, the claims of the scholar and the ignorant would be equal."» — Marātib al-ʿUlūm (The Categories of Sciences) https://t.me/ushaaqulkutub

Recommendation & Advice 📚 If possible, make it a habit to read (Riyāḍuṣ-Ṣāliḥīn - The Garden of ther righteous) at the end of each day before going to bed. If that is difficult, then aim to read it every Sunday night. By the permission of Allah, this book helps cultivate good character, strengthens one's worship, increases beneficial knowledge, and serves as a means of nurturing many aspects of a Muslim's life. Al-'Allāmah Ibn 'Uthaymīn (رحمه الله) spoke very highly of the book. He described it as one of the most beneficial books for both the general Muslims and students of knowledge, noting that it is read in mosques and gatherings and that people have benefited greatly from it. He also described it as a blessed book that benefits the young and old, the scholar and the layperson alike. He praised Imām Nawawī's excellent selection and arrangement of the aḥādīth and even said that if Allah had decreed for him a work with the same widespread acceptance and benefit as Riyāḍuṣ-Ṣāliḥīn, he would have considered that a great blessing. 🖊 Ibn Hussein t.me/abdullprod

For the student of knowledge, a library is not merely a collection of books—it is a repository of the Prophetic inheritance. Every volume represents the efforts of scholars who dedicated their lives to preserving the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the righteous predecessors. Building a library is therefore an act of preserving knowledge, honoring the scholars, and preparing oneself to serve Islam by seeking, acting upon, and transmitting beneficial knowledge.
The basic ruling concerning libraries is permissibility. However, establishing, maintaining, and preserving libraries may become a communal obligation (farḍ kifāyah) when necessary to preserve the religion and facilitate the obligatory pursuit of Islamic knowledge, or recommended when it's required for seeking beneficial knowledge. Likewise, donating books and establishing library endowments are among the greatest forms of ongoing charity.
Historically, libraries were known by several names, including: The Library (Al-Maktabah) - المكتبة The Treasury of Books (Khizānat al-Kutub) - خزانة الكتب The House of Knowledge (Dārul-'Ilm) - دار العلم
The virtue of the library stems from the virtue of sacred knowledge itself. Through libraries, the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the works of the scholars are preserved. They safeguard the creed of Ahlus-Sunnah, preserve the Sunnah, repel innovations, and connect each generation to the inheritance of the Prophets.
The fruits of a library are immense: Preserving the religion through preserving its sources. Facilitating the pursuit of beneficial knowledge. Assisting scholars and students in research and study. Producing generations who inherit the Prophetic legacy. Serving as an ongoing charity (ṣadaqah jāriyah) for its founder and all who contribute to it.
The subject of the student of knowledge's library is the collection of the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the books of the scholars in the various Islamic sciences, together with the instrumental sciences (ʿUlūmul-Ālah) such as Arabic grammar, morphology, rhetoric, principles of jurisprudence, and the sciences that aid in understanding the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ. It concerns their preservation, organization, cataloguing, and accessibility.
