If a student of knowledge becomes so occupied with teaching that it takes precedence over learning, and he begins to think that he benefits more from what he teaches others than from what he receives from scholars, then he would do well to re-examine his intention. For the blessing of knowledge lies in continuing to receive it from its people. The blessing of knowledge is not sustained by giving alone, but by continually receiving, keeping the company of scholars, and maintaining the state of a student—no matter how much a person has learned—as long as he is still able to meet and learn from his teachers and from those who are more knowledgeable and senior than he is. Saʿīd ibn Jubayr said: “A man remains a scholar so long as he continues to learn. But when he stops learning and thinks that he has become self-sufficient and that what he already possesses is enough for him, then he is at his most ignorant." — Tadhkirat us-Sāmiʿ wa’l-Mutakallim, p. 28. “They embarrassed him, so he sought knowledge!” Ibn Ḥazm — may Allah have mercy on him — (d. 456 AH) attended a funeral. He entered the mosque and sat down before praying. Someone said to him, “You haven’t prayed the prayer of greeting the mosque [ṣalātut-taḥiyyah].” So he got up and prayed it. Then he attended another funeral. This time, he began praying, but someone said to him, “Sit down; this is not a time for prayer.” It was after ʿAṣr. He felt embarrassed by the situation, so he said, “Show me the home of the Faqīh (jurist).” He then became serious and persistent in seeking knowledge, until he eventually became what he became [i.e., one of the great scholars]. — Al-Mutaladhdhidhūn bil-ʿIlm (Those Who Take Delight in Knowledge), p. 223 https://t.me/tullabilm26
Shaykh Ṣāliḥ Ālush-Shaykh — may Allah preserve him — said: “The writings of Shaykhul-Islām [Ibn Taymiyyah] — may Allah have mercy on him — concerning creed are varied. The way to understand his words is therefore to master the concise works: Al-Wāsiṭiyyah Al-Ḥamawiyyah Al-Tadmuriyyah These three works are important for understanding the writings of Shaykhul-Islām, understanding his theological position and methodology, and understanding how he formulates and presents issues. Therefore, for a student of knowledge to understand Shaykhul-Islām’s words in his longer works, his Fatāwā, and his lengthy answers, he must thoroughly master these three concise works. This is why the scholars would teach students these three concise works before reading the longer works with them.” — Lecture Series, 4/574 https://t.me/Sh_Soolih_AalushShaykh_English
HOW TO PERFORM ṢALĀTUL-KUSŪF (IMĀM IBN BĀZ رحمه الله) Q: What is the manner of performing the eclipse prayer (ṣalātul-kusūf), and is there any difference between a solar and lunar eclipse? Also, what is your opinion regarding what is published in newspapers about the beginning and end times of eclipses? A: The Prophet ﷺ explained the manner of performing the eclipse prayer in authentic hadiths, and he instructed that people be summoned to it by announcing: “The prayer is gathering.” (Aṣ-ṣalātu jāmiʿah). The soundest description reported regarding this prayer is that the imam leads the people in two rakʿahs, with two recitations, two bowings (rukūʿ), and two prostrations (sujūd) in each rakʿah. The recitation, bowing, and prostration should be prolonged. The first recitation should be longer than the second, and the first bowing longer than the second. Likewise, the recitation in the second rakʿah should be shorter than the recitation in the first rakʿah, and its bowing should be lighter than the two bowings of the first rakʿah. The second recitation of the second rakʿah should be shorter than its first recitation, and its second bowing should be shorter than its first. As for the two prostrations in each rakʿah, it is recommended to prolong them, but not to an extent that causes hardship for the people, because this is what the Prophet ﷺ did. After the prayer, it is prescribed for the imam, if he has sufficient knowledge, to admonish and remind the people. He should inform them that the solar and lunar eclipses are two of the signs of Allah, by which Allah causes His servants to fear Him, and that when an eclipse occurs, Muslims are prescribed to pray, increase in remembrance of Allah, supplication, glorification of Allah (takbīr), freeing slaves, and giving charity until the eclipse has passed. This is based on the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: “The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of the death or life of anyone. Rather, Allah sends them to cause His servants to fear Him. So when you see that, pray and supplicate until what has afflicted you is removed.” In another narration: “When you see that, hasten to the remembrance of Allah, supplication, and seeking His forgiveness.” Some hadiths also contain the instruction to give charity and free slaves. As for the calculations made by astronomers concerning the times of eclipses, they should not be relied upon. A number of scholars explicitly stated this, including Shaykhul-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah and his student, the scholar Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on them both. This is because their calculations can sometimes be mistaken. Therefore, they cannot be relied upon, and it is not prescribed for anyone to perform the eclipse prayer merely on the basis of their predictions. Rather, the eclipse prayer is prescribed when the eclipse actually occurs and is witnessed. Therefore, ministries of information should prevent the publication of predictions by those who make such calculations regarding eclipse times, so that some people are not deceived by their reports. Furthermore, publishing such predictions may lessen the impact of the eclipse in people's hearts, whereas Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has decreed eclipses as a means of frightening people and reminding them, so that they remember Him, become conscious of Him, call upon Him, and treat His servants well. And Allah is the One who grants success. Question submitted by ʿA. S. from Riyadh during a gathering with His Eminence. Source: Majmūʿ Fatāwā wa-Maqālāt Shaykh Ibn Bāz, 13/34. Tr. You can't be a student of knowledge unless... 🎙 Sheikh 'Abdurrazzāq Al-Badr حفظه الله t.me/tullabilm26
For the doors of the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ are vast. If the matter is as such, then the seekers of knowledge are in very great need of taking care of this science. And we can place it into several points or topics. 📖 الطريق إلى النبوغ العلمي ص. (30-31) 🖊Translated by Abū 'Abdillāh 'Abdullateef bn Hussein t.me/tullabilm26
📚The Guidance of the Salaf in Knowledge and the Compilations of the Sunnah (Sheikh Sālih Ālush-Shaykh حفظه الله) Thus, the distinguished one among the Salaf was the one who knew the Book and the Sunnah more. So whoever increased in his knowledge of the Book of Allah—the Mighty and Majestic—and the Sunnah; he was the most knowledgeable and the most proficient in Fiqh (understanding). And for this reason, they mentioned in the comparison between Ibrāhīm An-Nakha'i and 'Aamir bin Sharāḥil Ash-Sha'bi—and they are both known jurists, one of whom was in Kūfa and the other in Baṣra—that they used to give precedence to Ash-Sha'bi due to what he was upon of the Sunnah and knowledge of what the Prophet ﷺ said. His opposition to the truth was less because of his abundant following of the evidence and his hearing of it. So due to his abundant knowledge of the reports and the Sunan (traditions), and the abundance of what he narrated from them, a group of the people of knowledge leaned towards giving precedence to what he says or what he issues verdicts (fatwas) on over others. And this is what is known in the guidance of the Salaf. For indeed, if knowledge of the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ increases—which includes the Tafsīr of the Quran, establishing Tawhid and beliefs, Fiqh, manners, and the guidance of the Prophet ﷺ in his dealings with the polytheists, opponents, and his companions—if his knowledge in this increases, he is more knowledgeable, more understanding, and more likely to be correct. This means that the guidance of the pious predecessors (Salafuṣ-Ṣālih) in knowledge and learning is paying attention to the Sunnah and the Aḥādīth. Then Allah made it easy that the books of Hadīth were compiled. Among the first of what was compiled in that regard was "Al-Muwaṭṭa" by the Imām of the Abode of Migration (Madīnah), Mālik bin Anas (d. 179 AH)—may Allah have mercy on him. And despite its brevity, it contains a very great deal of knowledge, to the extent that Ash-Shafi'i—may Allah have mercy on him—said: "There is no book after the Book of Allah more authentic than the Muwatta of Mālik bin Anas," and that is because it was before the two Ṣaḥīḥs of Al-Bukhāri and Muslim. Then, as the people of knowledge consecutively authored works in Hadith and in writing down the Sunan, they diversified their writings into Ṣaḥīḥs, Masāneed, Ma'ājim, Hadīth Ajzā' (tracts), and many types of authorship. And among the greatest of what the people of knowledge wrote are the famous Six Books: "Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhāri" by Abū 'Abdillāh Al-Bukhāri (d. 256 AH), "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" by Muslim bin Al-Hajjāj (d. 261 AH), "Sunan Abī Dāwūd" As-Sijistāni (d. 275 AH), "Jāmi' Abī 'Isā" At-Tirmidhī (d. 279 AH), "Sunan Al-Mujtabā" by An-Nasā'i (d. 303 AH), and "Sunan Ibn Mājah" (d. 273 AH)—may Allah have mercy on them. These are compiled according to chapters and topics. As for the Masāneed, the greatest of them among what is in our hands is the Musnad of the Imām of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamāʿah, Imam Aḥmad bin Muḥammad bin Ḥanbal Abū 'Abdillāh (d. 241 AH). He wrote and compiled his Musnad according to categories (of Companions); so he made the Musnad of the Ten (promised Paradise), then the Musnad of the Muhājirūn, then the Musnad of the Anṣār, and the Musnad of the Makkans, Madinans, and Syrians, and so on, placing the Musnad of women at its end. And these Six Books, along with the Musnad of Imam Aḥmad, and with the Muwaṭṭa; the people of knowledge have not ceased to take great care of them. Knowledge of the Sunnah is among the most important things the seeker of knowledge should care for. Paying attention to the Hadīth of the Prophet ﷺ strengthens the seeker of knowledge's aptitude in learning, strengthens his memorization, and strengthens his comprehension in Fiqh and understanding. Much good is attained by him in behavior, and in knowing the guidance and the Sunan in all his affairs, such as clothing, the affairs of his home, his speech and dialogue, his interactions, what he approaches and what he leaves, and in his good character.
Ahlus-Sunnah are people of steadfastness 🎙 Sheikh Sālih As-Sindī حفظه الله 🎧 Audio: https://t.me/saalihsindi/41 ✍️ Transcription: https://t.me/saalihsindi/43 🔗 WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbD5OsZH5JM0pjH4H20s
⭕️ Imām Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Know, may Allah have mercy upon you, that whoever among you attends even a single gathering of knowledge, learns a matter from it, acts upon it, and teaches it to his brothers will attain a great deal of goodness. He will receive its reward, as well as the reward of everyone who acts upon it, until the Day of Resurrection. Do not think that the virtue of knowledge is attained only by one who acquires a great deal of knowledge. Indeed, Allah the Most High will reward every person according to his deeds, even if they are few. And they will not be wronged even by the smallest speck. The Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Convey from me, even if it is one verse.’ 📕 Ad-Diyāʾul-Lāmiʿ minal-Khuṭabil-Jawāmiʿ (1/8) 🖊 Translated by Abū 'Abdillāh 'Abdullateef bn Hussein https://t.me/tullabilm26

THE STUDENT OF KNOWLEDGE MUST BE PATIENT Imām Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī—may Allāh have mercy on him—said: “A student of knowledge must be patient, even if matters and problems accumulate upon him, and he feels tightness in his chest. He may even push himself with memorisation and dedication to seeking knowledge to the extent that he feels hardness in his heart. This should not deter him, for Shayṭān does not want good for you; he wants to turn you away from seeking knowledge. This is because seeking knowledge in this time is the greatest fortress, by the permission of Allāh the Exalted, that protects you from trials.” [Al-Muqtaraḥ fī Ajwibat Baʿḍ Asʾilat al-Muṣṭalaḥ, p. 170] ═══✺✺═══ Translated by: Abū ʿUrwah Jamāl https://t.me/gemsofthescholars https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vb8DZ1zLCoX1ZdFuvm3G
◾️Knowledge Is What Makes 'Ibaadah (Worship) Correct◾️ بســـم اللــه الرحــمــن الـرحـــيــم 📤 Benefit from the Shaykh Abu Ibraaheem Muhammad Ibnu Maani 'Al-Aanisi - may Allaah preserve him: Knowledge Is What Makes 'Ibaadah (Worship) Correct or Valid 1 - Al-Qurtubi said, commenting on the saying of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic: فَخَلَفَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ أَضَاعُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّبَعُوا الشَّهَوَاتِ “Then there has succeeded them a posterity who have given up As-Salaah (the prayers) [i.e., made their Salaah (prayers) to be lost, either by not offering them or by not offering them perfectly or by not offering them in their proper fixed times] and have followed lusts.” — Surah Maryam (19:59). "By the life of Allaah, one may indeed witness in reality a person who is pointed to [as a person of knowledge] and thought to possess 'ilm (knowledge), and is honored as such — yet in truth he pecks at his prayer like the pecking of a rooster [i.e., prays hastily and without tranquility], due to his ignorance of the hadeeth. So how, then, is the case with the ignorant masses who know nothing at all?" (1) 2 - Qaadi 'Iyaad said, in his commentary on the hadeeth of al-musee' salaatah (the man who prayed badly): "In it is [evidence] that the deeds of the ignorant person, performed in worship without knowledge, are not accepted [i.e. do not suffice/has not discharged the obligation]." (2) 3 - Al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadi commented on the statement of ar-Rabee' ibn Khaytham: "Attain fiqh (understanding of the religion), then withdraw [into seclusionn in worship]." He said: "[This is] because 'ibaadah (worship) is not valid except after tafaqquh (attaining understanding of the religion)." A benefit: this is corroborated from the Sunnah by the statement of the Prophet ﷺ: عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: مَنْ عَمِلَ عَمَلًا لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرُنَا فَهُوَ رَدٌّ "Whoever does a deed which is not in accordance with our affair [i.e. our religion] will have it rejected." Shaykh Sulaymān Ar-Ruḥaylī (may Allah preserve him) said: "The believer's prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ reach him at any time and from any place. However, Friday has a special virtue. On the other days, these prayers are conveyed to him ﷺ through the angels who travel throughout the earth. ❑ As for Friday, the believer's prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ are presented to him directly. And it is well known that being presented (ʿarḍ) is more eloquent and more honorable than merely being conveyed (tablīgh)." 📚 Source: Explanation of Kitābut-Tawḥīd, Lesson 68. 🖊 Translated by Abū 'Abdillāh 'Abdullateef bn Hussein وفقه الله https://t.me/tullabilm26
