Happy International Youth Day. This year's theme is "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations." Ours is simple. We are youth-led, so the people writing this are the people being written about today. Across the regions we work in, including with young refugees and internally displaced young people, being young rarely means being left out of the conversation. It means arriving after the decision. Consulted at the workshop, thanked at the closing, absent when the budget is set. We are not asking to be consulted. We are asking for participation: a seat while the outcome is still open. That is why EYPD exists. The first cohort of our National Volunteer Programme opens this month. Young people from refugee, displaced, and crisis-affected communities are especially encouraged to apply. Apply: https://forms.gle/rp89QuGGpjmTbLdJ8

The best post I ever made was the one I never sent. Most of us have a version of it. A reply typed out in full while the anger was still fresh. A screenshot ready to forward before anyone had checked where it came from. A comment that would have felt good for about four seconds. Nothing happens when you delete it. There is no notification for the argument that did not start, no thank you from the person who was never dragged into it, no record of the rumour that stopped moving because one person decided not to pass it on. That is the difficulty with restraint. It leaves no evidence. It is invisible work, and in a country where a single post can harden into real suspicion between neighbours, it is some of the most valuable work any of us do. So this is for everyone who has held their thumb over send and closed the app instead. It counted. Do it again today.

Every positive change starts with a single step. Small acts of service create ripples of impact that strengthen local communities, foster peace, and build a brighter future for all. Whether it's environmental protection, humanitarian action, community support, or youth empowerment, your hands-on action helps drive national progress. Today we are launching a three-month digital peace campaign under Youth for Peace (Y4P) project. It begins with a message that belongs to all of us: pause before you post. Online hate is not a separate world from the one we live in. A rumour forwarded before it is checked, a caption written in anger, a video stripped of its context: these move faster than verified information, and they do not stop at the screen. They harden into suspicion between neighbours, silence in classrooms, and fear in communities that are still recovering. The difficult truth is that most harmful content is not spread by people who set out to cause harm. It is spread by ordinary users in a hurry. That also means the response is within reach of every one of us. Before you share, ask three questions. Is it verified? Who benefits from it spreading? What will it do to someone else?

Ethiopian Youth for Peace and Development and the Humanitarian National CSOs Forum have opened the mapping for youth-led organisations. Youth-led organisations deliver a substantial share of frontline response and community programming in Ethiopia, frequently in the woredas that are hardest for larger actors to reach. That work is rarely recorded in one place. Where it is not visible, it is not counted in coordination, not considered in referral, and not reached when partnership and funding opportunities arise. The mapping addresses that gap. It records who is working where, in which thematic areas, with which signatory bureaus and funding agencies, and how many people are reached. We invite youth-led organisations across all 14 regions and city administrations to take part. The form takes about ten minutes for each project, and organisations running several projects can submit more than once. Add your organisation: https://forms.gle/2J3diPTc7mLXXNAG9

You will start seeing this around. Not a uniform. A promise. When this vest shows up in a classroom, a community gatherings, or a settlement, it means EYPD is there. And when it reaches a crisis-affected community, hard to reach and far from help, it means we came to respond, and we stayed: listening, standing with young people, and doing the quiet work that rarely makes the headlines. We do not wear it to stand out. We wear it to stand with. To every young person watching: there is room for you in this work. If you want to build something where you live, to lead and not simply wait, come and join us. To our partners, today and tomorrow: young people are not waiting for permission to shape their future, they are already doing it. Stand with us, and we will reach further together. Ethiopian Youth for Peace and Development, is here until every young person thrives.
