Good works belong to the believerโs WALK AND SERVICE AFTER salvation. ๐ Salvation establishes your position IN CHRIST. ๐ Sound doctrine then teaches the saved believer how he SHOULD WALK. Huge difference! ๐ฅ โ๏ธ THIRD โ CAN A SAVED PERSON HAVE BAD WORKS? ๐ณ๐ฅ ABSOLUTELY! This destroys the idea that good works automatically prove somebody is savedโor that bad works automatically prove somebody was never saved. Paul writes to believers: ๐ โFor we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his bodyโฆ WHETHER IT BE GOOD OR BAD.โ โ 2 Corinthians 5:10 KJV WAIT! ๐ Saved members of the Body of Christ can have: โ GOOD works. ORโฆ โ BAD works. If salvation automatically guaranteed that every believer would produce nothing but good works, why does Paul warn believers about BAD works? ๐ค Becauseโฆ ๐ฅ SALVATION AND SERVICE ARE NOT THE SAME THING! Paul warns: ๐ โNow if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubbleโฆโ โ 1 Corinthians 3:12 KJV ๐ Gold. ๐ฅ Silver. ๐ Precious stones. ORโฆ ๐ชต Wood. ๐พ Hay. ๐ฅ Stubble. And the fire will reveal WHAT SORT of work it is! ๐ โThe fire shall try every manโs work of what sort it is.โ โ 1 Corinthians 3:13 KJV Some works receive reward. ๐โจ Others BURN. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ But watch what happens to the believer whose works burn: ๐ โIf any manโs work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; yet so as by fire.โ โ 1 Corinthians 3:15 KJV ๐ฅ THERE IT IS! ๐ฅ WORKS BURNED. ๐ฅ REWARD LOST. โค๏ธ THE MAN STILL SAVED. Why? Because his salvation was never resting upon his works in the first place! BUT WHO WAS CHRIST MINISTERING TO? ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ Jesus Himself said: ๐ Matthew 15:24 (KJV) โI am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.โ That verse matters! ๐จ Christโs earthly ministry concerned Israel and her promised kingdom. ๐๐ฎ๐ฑ Those books are: โ Inspired Scripture โ Godโs perfect Word โ Absolutely true โ Profitable for our learning But that does NOT mean every command given to Israel becomes doctrinal instruction for the Body of Christ today! ๐ฅ RIGHTLY DIVIDE! ๐ฅ The risen Christ later revealed through Paul truth concerning the mystery and the Body of Christ. ๐ Romans 16:25 (KJV) โNow to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospelโฆ according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.โ For our present dispensation, our doctrinal instruction is found in Romans through Philemon. ๐โ๏ธ โ๏ธ FIFTH โ GOOD WORKS SHOULD COME AFTER SALVATIONโฆ NEVER AS THE PRICE OF SALVATION! โ๏ธโก๏ธ๐ฑโก๏ธ๐ Get the order right! ๐จ ๐ Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) โFor by grace are ye saved through faithโฆ it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.โ ๐ฅ NOT OF WORKS! ๐ฅ You arenโt saved because you: โ Keep commandments โ Get water baptized โ Reform your behavior โ Produce enough fruit โ Join a church โ Perform religious works You are saved by believing the gospel of Christโs finished work! โ๏ธ๐ฉธ ๐ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (KJV) โ..how that, Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.โ But AFTER salvation: ๐ Ephesians 2:10 (KJV) โFor we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good worksโฆโ See the order? ๐๐ฅ SALVATION โก๏ธ THEN SERVICE GRACE โก๏ธ THEN GOOD WORKS Never: โ WORKS โก๏ธ SALVATION โ๏ธ SIXTH โ RIGHT DOCTRINE PRODUCES THE RIGHT KIND OF BUILDING! ๐๐งฑ๐ A believer needs to understand: โ The gospel of our salvation โ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 โ๏ธ โ Salvation apart from works โ Ephesians 2:8-9 ๐ โ Our sealing in Christ โ Ephesians 1:13 ๐ โ Our one Spirit baptism โ 1 Corinthians 12:13 ๐ โ The dispensation of grace โ Ephesians 3:2 ๐ โ The revelation of the mystery โ Romans 16:25 ๐ โ Right division โ 2 Timothy 2:15 โ๏ธ ๐ฅ Sound doctrine matters because what you BELIEVE affects how you BUILD! โ๐ฅ DONโT BUILD WITH WOOD, HAY, AND STUBBLE! ๐ฅโ โ Mixing law with grace โ Making Israelโs kingdom program your primary doctrine โ Mixing prophecy with the mystery โ Performance-based Christianity โ Trying to maintain salvation through works โ Refusing progressive revelation โ Ignoring Paulโs distinctive apostleship โ Building religious traditions instead of sound doctrine โ ๐ BUILD WITH GOLD, SILVER, AND PRECIOUS STONES! ๐โ โ Christโs finished work โ๏ธ โ 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ๐ โ Grace apart from works ๐ โ Your identity in Christ ๐ โ The revelation of the mystery ๐ โ The dispensation of grace ๐ โ Romans through Philemon โ๏ธ โ The King James Bible rightly divided ๐๐ฅ โจ๐ฅ THE BOTTOM LINE ๐ฅโจ Christian, WHAT ARE YOU BUILDING WITH? ๐๐ The Judgment Seat of Christ is not Christ deciding whether you deserve to remain saved. Your salvation rests upon CHRISTโS FINISHED WORK! โ๏ธ๐ฉธ But your WORK WILL BE TESTED. ๐ฅ ๐ โThe fire shall try every manโs work of what sort it is.โ โ1 Corinthians 3:13 Some believers will receive reward. ๐๐ Others will watch their religious labor burn: ๐ฅ Wood. ๐ฅ Hay. ๐ฅ Stubble. Yet Paul says of the believer who suffers loss: ๐ โBut he himself shall be saved.โ โ1 Corinthians 3:15 ๐ฅ YOU DONโT WANT TO SPEND YOUR CHRISTIAN LIFE BUILDING SINCERELYโฆ ONLY TO DISCOVER YOU WERE BUILDING WITH THE WRONG MATERIALS! Many people are quick to point out the sins of others ๐ while ignoring their own sins ๐. Paul writes: ๐ "Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself..." (Romans 2:1 KJV) ๐ฅ It is easy to condemn someone else's failures. ๐ฅ It is harder to examine our own hearts. ๐ฅ God sees what nobody else sees. The Lord is not fooled by religious appearances, church membership, traditions, titles, or outward ceremonies. ๐ God sees the heart. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ โ๏ธ ๐๐๐'๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ "But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth..." (Romans 2:2) People judge by appearance. ๐ Man looks at reputation. ๐ฐ Man looks at wealth. ๐ Man looks at status. ๐ญ Man looks at outward religion. But God judges according to truth. Nothing is hidden from Him. ๐ Every thought. ๐ Every motive. ๐ Every secret sin. ๐ Every hidden attitude. One day all will be revealed before the righteous Judge. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ "The goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance." (Romans 2:4) Many think God's patience means God approves of sin. โ Wrong. God is longsuffering. God is merciful. God is patient. But His patience is giving people time to repent, not permission to continue in rebellion. ๐ Every day of life is another opportunity to turn to God's truth. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ โ ๏ธ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ The Jews in Romans 2 had the Law. ๐ They knew the commandments. ๐ They taught others. ๐ They boasted in God. Yet many were breaking the very things they preached. Paul asks: โ Thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? โ Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? ๐ฅ Knowledge alone is not enough. Knowing the truth and refusing to follow it only increases accountability. God is not impressed by what we claim. God is interested in what is true. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ โค๏ธ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ The chapter ends with a profound truth. ๐ "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly..." (Romans 2:28) Paul explains that true righteousness is not merely outward. It is not about ceremonies. It is not about rituals. It is not about religious appearances. ๐ God looks for a heart that believes Him. ๐ "But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart..." (Romans 2:29) The issue has always been the heart. โจ A changed heart. โจ A believing heart. โจ A heart that desires God's truth. โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ฃ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ As we continue into Romans, Paul is building the case that: โ The Gentile is guilty. โ The religious person is guilty. โ The moral person is guilty. โ The Jew is guilty. ๐ Romans 3 will conclude: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) No one is justified by their own goodness. ๐ Our only hope is the Lord Jesus Christ. Today, under God's grace, salvation is found by trusting the gospel that Paul preached: ๐ "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV) โจ Stop trusting religion. โจ Stop trusting works. โจ Stop comparing yourself to others.
