3 THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE MEMORISING Memorising Quran is the childhood dream of every Muslim. Being able to read the entire Quran off by memory would be such a huge achievement. That being said: Here's 3 things that I had to learn the hard way 1. Sacrifice I always used to look at those who memorised the Quran quickly and thought 'they must be naturally talented' That was just wrong. I was able to spend years with these people and the hard work they put in, the number of pleasures they sacrificed was something many Muslims are not prepared to do. Hard-work always beats 'natural-talent' (if that even is a thing) 2. Don't Memorise Right AwaySounds counter-intuitive right? Wrong. The actual memorisation part of memorising the Quran requires a build up. The same way an athlete prepares month in-advance for a fight, you need to prepare before you actually memorise the Quran. What does this specifically include? - Recognise Arabic letters - Recite with Tajweed - Become mega-fluent in reading Arabic 3. Retention Over EverythingWhat's the benefit of striving for three years just to forget the Quran straight after. Sadly, most of the Huffaz in the UK are like this :( "Even if you have to leave off progression, keep your revision intact. always." - Qari Fatih Sefragic Understand these three rules and you'll regret a lot less when memorising the Quran.
