The pie charts show the proportions of people who used social media with four frequencies–daily, often, weekly and never–in 2011 and 2014. Overall, social media use became markedly more frequent over the three-year period, with many users shifting from weekly to either often or daily use. The proportions of people using media daily and often both increased, while the share of weekly users declined noticeably. Meanwhile, the figure for those who never used social media remained unaltered and was consistently the smallest group. In 2011, weekly use was by far the most common frequency, accounting for 52% of respondents. This was followed by those whose used social media often, at 31%. By contrast, only 12% reported using it daily, while a mere 5% said they never accessed social media. By 2014, however, the distribution had shifted noticeably towards more regular use. The proportion of people using social media often rose by 11% to 42%, making it the largest cohort. Similarly, daily usage increased from 12% to 16%. In contrast, the percentage of weekly users fell sharply from 52% to 37%, representing the most significant change over the period. Despite these changes, the proportion of people who never used social media remained stable at 5% in both years.
