  • 11 нояб. 2024 г.🟢 First Case of HIV Cure Following Stem Cell Transplant! 🌟 📄 Original Article: Nature Medicine 🔹 The Breakthrough: A 53-year-old patient achieved sustained HIV-1 remission post-transplant with wild-type CCR5 stem cells, unlike previous cases using the protective CCR5Δ32 mutation. 🔹 Treatment Course: The patient received the stem cell transplant in 2018 for rare myeloid sarcoma, and successfully stopped antiretroviral therapy in Nov 2021. No viral rebound since! 🔹 Why It Matters: This marks the first documented HIV remission in a patient with non-mutant CCR5 cells—broadening the potential for future HIV cure research. #medicalresearch @Updates_in_Medicine0,73%
  • 14 мар. 2025 г.🔸 7-day vs 14-day antibiotics for bloodstream infections A 7-day antibiotic course was noninferior to 14 days in reducing 90-day mortality among hospitalised patients with bloodstream infections. This supports shorter antibiotic use to minimise side effects and resistance. #medicalresearch BALANCE Trial | NEJM | Nov 2024 https://doi.org/10.1056/NEJMoa24049910,46%
  • 13 мар. 2025 г.🔸 Scrub typhus incidence in rural South India A population-based study in Tamil Nadu found a high burden of scrub typhus, with an incidence of 6.0 cases per 1000 person-years. Asymptomatic seroconversion was 81.2 per 1000 person-years, indicating widespread exposure. #medicalresearch Cohort Study | NEJM | Mar 2025 https://doi.org/10.1056/NEJMoa24086450,40%
  • 4 дек. 2024 г.🦟 WHO Malaria Guidelines 2024 - Key Updates 🔗Full Guidelines • Vector Control: Use insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) & indoor residual spraying (IRS) for malaria prevention. Pyrethroid-chlorfenapyr ITNs recommended for resistant areas. • Preventive Chemotherapy: Intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy (IPTp) & chemoprevention for children in high-risk areas advised. • Vaccines: Malaria vaccines recommended for children in moderate to high transmission regions. • Case Management: ACTs for uncomplicated malaria & artesunate for severe cases. • Mass Drug Administration (MDA): Targeted MDA recommended in high-burden areas. #medicalguidelines #guidelines @Updates_in_Medicine0,40%
  • 5 апр. 2025 г.🔴 PURPOSE 2 Trial: Twice-Yearly Lenacapavir for HIV Prevention #medicalresearch Background Lenacapavir (LEN) showed efficacy in cisgender women. Its role in cis men, trans, and gender-diverse populations was unknown. Methods Phase 3 RCT comparing subcutaneous LEN every 26 weeks vs. daily F/TDF in 3265 participants. Results • LEN: 0.10 HIV infections per 100 PY (95% CI: 0.01–0.37) • F/TDF: 0.93 per 100 PY • Background rate: 2.37 per 100 PY • LEN was superior to both background and F/TDF arms (P<0.001 and P=0.002) • No major safety concerns • Injection-site reactions: LEN 1.2%, F/TDF 0.3% Conclusions Twice-yearly LEN significantly reduced HIV incidence vs. daily oral PrEP. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2411858 @The_NEJM0,29%
