#C1 Chances are + (that) + subject + verb It means “it is likely that…” / “there is a good possibility that…” Examples Chances are that she’ll accept the offer. Chances are, people will become increasingly dependent on technology.
It is not so much A as B Meaning: B describes the situation better than A. You use it to show that something is more like B and less like A Example: Sailing is not so much a science as an art." (It is more of an art than a science.) It is not so much about doing something exciting in the evening as it is about feeling relaxed and recharged before the next day.

✍️ TASK 2: It is a good idea for people to continue working in their old age, if it is possible for them to do so. To what extent do you agree or disagree? There is a view that remaining in employment well beyond the traditional retirement age benefits individuals and society as a whole. I strongly agree with this assertion, as long as senior workers are physically capable and willing to do so. One primary reason for remaining professionally active is that it enhances older people’s quality of life. Employment provides far more than a source of income; it serves as an outlet for social interaction and provides a sense of purpose, all of which are essential for emotional well-being. Moreover, continuing to work keeps a person’s mind sharp through mental stimulation, ultimately preventing cognitive decline. Beyond psychological and cognitive benefits, employment at an older age offers economic advantages by fostering financial independence, which reduces reliance on family members or state pensions. Equally important are benefits to employers and society itself. Senior citizens generally possess decades of practical expertise and institutional knowledge, which cannot be easily acquired through formal education. In addition, older people can mentor young employees, offer strategic guidance, and demonstrate better soft skills, such as conflict resolution, communication, and teamwork. This consequently improves team cohesion and workplace stability, qualities that form the cornerstone of productivity. In sectors facing labour shortages, such as healthcare and education, retaining experienced employees would alleviate recruitment pressures. That said, this view should not be viewed as support for compulsory employment in old age. Individuals working in physically demanding conditions may find it increasingly difficult to perform their duties safely and effectively. In such cases, flexible working arrangements, advisory roles, or part-time employment represent more suitable alternatives than full-time work. In conclusion, staying in the workplace beyond the average retirement age contributes both to personal well-being and societal prosperity, provided that this does not occur against people’s wishes and senior employees are physically and mentally resilient. #task2
The diagrams illustrate a basic structure of a solar panel, along with how it functions to heat either air or water. Overall, the design of the solar panel is relatively straightforward, with a shallow box fitted with a transparent cover, an inlet, and outlet. The way it operates to heat water and air is broadly similar, with the only disparity lying in an additional pipe through which water circulates, whereas air is heated directly inside the box. In terms of its structure, the solar panel is essentially a rectangular box covered by a transparent sheet, which allows sunlight to penetrate the interior. An inlet is positioned on one side of the box to admit either water or air, whereas an outlet on the opposite side releases the heated substance. As for the function, the process of heating air is relatively straightforward. Cool air initially enters the panel via the inlet and travels across the box, as the sunlight penetrating through the transparent cover heats it up. Once warmed, the air is discharged through the outlet, thereby completing the procedure. The water-heating version follows a largely similar principle, though there is one extra component. Unlike air heating, water flows through a coiled pipe after being fed into the panel through the inlet. As solar radiation heats the pipe, the water absorbs the thermal energy while moving through it and finally leaves the outlet as the warm water. Compared to the air-heating system, this method requires an internal pipe to transfer heat more effectively, although both designs operate by harnessing the sun’s energy. #task1 #highband @MaryamIELTS1

APRIL 28 Many believe that it is important to protect all wild animals, while others think that it is important to protect some, not all of them. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The question of whether endangered or all wildlife should be conserved has become a contentious issue. While some advocate for selective protection, others contend that every species plays a pivotal role in maintaining an ecological equilibrium. This essay will closely examine both perspectives before presenting a personal viewpoint. On the one hand, proponents of comprehensive wildlife protection argue that each species is indispensable to ecological balance. Ecosystems function through complex interdependencies, and the disappearance of a single species could produce far-reaching consequences. For instance, insects such as bees are crucial pollinators whose decline could significantly affect agricultural output and plant reproduction. Furthermore, many endangered species are threatened by human activities such as deforestation and pollution, making ecological stewardship a moral obligation. On the other hand, critics maintain that conservation efforts should be devoted to certain animals. Given that governments and environmental organizations operate with limited budgets, it may be impractical to protect every species equally. Instead, priority should be given to animals that are essential to ecosystem functioning. In addition, some invasive and disease-carrying pests pose threats to ecological stability and human livelihoods, making selective conservation even more justifiable. Therefore, supporters of this approach place a greater emphasis on practicality and effectiveness. In my view, limiting conservation resources to certain species is fundamentally flawed and short-sighted. Not only does this anthropocentric view overlook humanity’s ethical responsibility, but it also undermines the intrinsic value of animals. All wild animals merit protection, since each species contributes, directly or indirectly, to biodiversity and environmental health. That said, I acknowledge that resources are finite. Therefore, while all animals should receive legal and environmental safeguards, greater funding and attention should be directed to those facing imminent extinction or performing vital ecological functions. In conclusion, although some argue that conservation efforts should target only selected species due to limited resources, I believe all animals deserve protection. However, critically endangered species should be prioritized, without compromising the welfare of other wildlife.
#reminder Sometimes, those in pursuit of knowledge overlook the importance of supplication (du’a). Every time you start to study, don’t forget to make a du’a! :رَبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا📌 Rabbi zidni 'ilman My Lord, increase me in knowledge. رَبِّ يَسِّر وَلَا تُعَسِّر📌 Rabbi yassir wa la tu’assir O Allah! In today's world, people spend a lot of money on appearance because they want to look younger. Why does this happen? Do you think this is a positive or negative development? In today’s modern era characterized by glamor and material splendour, individuals give a significantly higher priority to retaining a youthful appearance, largely driven by social and commercial factors. Meanwhile, although there are certain perceived advantages in maintaining a younger look, the negative influences are far more significant. One compelling reason individuals are drawn to a youthful appearance lies in the rise of social media and celebrity culture. People are constantly exposed to idealized and highly curated images of beauty and youth on social media platforms such as Instagram or TikTok. Unrealistic beauty standards stemming from celebrity culture make individuals feel pressurized to attain a flawless age-defying appearance, with an hourglass figure, a tiny contoured nose, and plump lips. More importantly, young impressionable minds are in pursuit of social validation and acceptance, thereby feeling more compelled to follow this trend. Equally responsible is the growing beauty industry. Companies profit by convincing consumers that ageing is a problem. Anti-ageing products and cosmetic treatments are constantly touted by advertising companies, thereby generating a significant amount of revenue. These commercial interests, coupled with aggressive marketing, fuel the demand for age-defying procedures and cosmetic products, while also exacerbating consumerism and excessive spending on appearance. The fear of ageing and psychological reassurance intensify the impact of advertising and beauty commercialization, making individuals feel pressurized to retain a youthful appearance. However, the glorification of youth brings several drawbacks. One major downside is that it promotes superficial values. Individuals may place disproportionate emphasis on youthful looks, while overlooking the wisdom, experience, and expertise. Not only does it undermine the significance of years of experience, but it also marginalizes older generations, ultimately leading to ageism. In addition, individuals may experience psychological distress and anxiety, when they fail to achieve unrealistic expectations promoted by media and advertising. Admittedly, maintaining a youthful look can boost self-confidence and enhance self-esteem. People who feel satisfied with their appearance tend to actively participate in social and professional settings. Moreover, the beauty and cosmetic industries create employment, significantly contributing to economic prosperity. However, the negative implications in terms of consumerism and psychological well-being overshadow these benefits, making the shift towards looking younger a largely negative development. In conclusion, the trend of looking younger is generally attributed to social media and the growing cosmetic industry. While it brings economic benefits and contributes to self-esteem, the drawbacks are far more notable, exerting a negative impact both on personal and societal levels. Therefore, mindfulness is essential to prevent the proliferation of unrealistic standards and adopt a healthy mindset.
The values that we learn from our parents and family have greater influence on our future success than knowledge and skills we learn at school. To what extent do you agree or disagree? There is a view that family values exert a greater impact on a child’s future success compared to school education. While formal instruction is indispensable, I firmly agree with the notion that the parental role is far more essential. Admittedly, schools act as a catalyst for academic growth. They provide specialized knowledge and opportunities, thereby laying the academic foundation. This leads to improved technical skills and vocational competence. More importantly, professional training offers networking opportunities, essential to navigate an increasingly complex job market. For instance, a doctor or engineer cannot solely rely on family values; rather, they thrive on professional guidance and training. From this perspective, school education is perceived as an integral part of a child’s future prosperity. That said, family values play a more crucial role in shaping long-term behavior and decision-making. Parents are often viewed as the most enduring role models, especially during children’s formative years. They instill qualities - such as discipline, integrity, perseverance, and diligence - traits that significantly contribute to both personal and professional development. For instance, a student with average academic competence but a strong work ethic and resilience can work hard and outperform more talented peers. Furthermore, success in modern society depends heavily on soft skills. Employers increasingly value emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, and social competence, all of which are often developed within the family environment. Children raised in supportive households tend to develop greater levels of self-confidence and sociability, making them more likely to succeed. Not only do these skills enhance a child’s professional life, but they also contribute to personal relationships, making them more socially responsible. In conclusion, while formal schooling plays an important role in professional growth, family values are ultimately more influential. They help children grow as individuals, while also enhancing career opportunities in today’s complex job market.
The pie charts illustrate the proportion of Australian men and women using social media in different frequencies in 2011 and 2014. Overall, there was a clear shift towards daily consumption of social media across both genders. Meanwhile, the proportion of people who never used social media moved in opposite directions, declining among men but rising among women. Notably, women used social media more often compared to their male counterparts. In terms of social media consumption among males, daily use became far more prevalent with a considerable rise from 25% to 45%, making it the only category to show an increase. By contrast, those using social media once a week and few times a week both recorded a moderate fall by 3 percentage points, reaching 9% and 16%, respectively. The decline, however, was more pronounced in the proportion of males who never used social media, dropping from 44% to 30%. Women displayed a broadly similar pattern. The percentage using social media platforms weekly or few times a week began at 39% and 22%, but fell strikingly to 10% and 9%, respectively. Daily users again experienced an increase, almost doubling from 30% to 59%, making females more likely than men to use social media on a daily basis. In contrast to men, females who never consumed social media saw a marked rise from 8% to 22%.
