  • The Four Creatures of the Wind Horse (rlung rta sde bzhi): * Tiger (stag) * Lion (seng) * Garuḍa (khyung) * Dragon (’brug) The tiger dwells in the forest and therefore symbolizes the wood element and the wind element. The lion dwells in the mountains and therefore symbolizes the earth element. Because fire blazes forth from the horns of the garuḍa, it symbolizes the fire element. The dragon dwells in the ocean and therefore symbolizes the water element. Since the wind pervades all things, the Wind Horse symbolizes the space (ether) element.

  • The great Dharma seal (大法印; Dà Fǎyìn) of the Fourth Kangyur Khutughtu contains inscriptions in Mongolian, Chinese, and Tibetan, arranged side by side. This seal was preserved by the Fifth Kangyur Khutughtu. The fifth Kanjurwa Khutughtu (1914–1980) was a high-ranking reincarnate lama and religious leader of Lamaist Buddhism in Inner Mongolia during a critical era of major political and social change. The Mongolian inscription reads: bükü nebterkei sayin sečin γanǰuurb-a mergen qutuγtu-yin tamγ-a The Chinese inscription reads: 圓通善慧甘珠爾瓦墨爾根呼圖克圖印 (Yuántōng Shànhuì Gānzhū'ěrwǎ Mò'ěrgēn Hūtúkètú Yìn), "Official Seal of the Yuantong Shanhui (Perfectly Penetrating, Excellent Wisdom) Kangyurva Mergen Khutughtu." At the center of the seal face is an inscription in nine-fold seal script (九疊篆; jiǔdié zhuàn): 民國三年補鑄 (Recast in the Third Year of the Republic of China, 1914). The Tibetan inscription reads: mkhas mchog dge ba’i ye shes bka’ ‘gyur ba mur dge hu thog thu yis thaM ga. The seal base measures 7.8 × 7.8 × 2 cm. It has an oval cylindrical knob with a top diameter of 2.5 cm, a width of 1.5 cm, and a height of 9 cm. The total weight of the seal is 1.8 kg. The reverse side of the seal base bears additional inscriptions. On the right side is engraved: “Yuantong Shanhui Kangyurva Mergan Khutughtu Seal” (圓通善慧甘珠爾瓦墨爾根呼圖克圖印). On the left side appears: “Manufactured by the Seal Casting Bureau of the Political Affairs Hall” (政事堂印鑄局; Zhèngshìtáng Yìnzhùjú). The base also records the date of manufacture: “June of the Third Year of the Republic of China” (中華民國三年六月; June 1914), together with the serial designation: “Chinese Character No. 147” (華字第一百四十七號). According to the historical account, this silver seal was issued in 1914 by the government of Yuan Shikai (袁世凱) after the Fourth Kangyur Khutughtu was granted the title “Yuantong Shanhui Kangyurva Mergan Khutughtu.” It was intended as an official symbol of religious authority and institutional legitimacy. The inscription “Recast in the Third Year of the Republic of China” (民國三年補鑄) became a point of controversy. The the six characters inserted into the center of the seal face are an unusual and potentially humiliating mark, suggesting that the replacement seal carried a symbolic reminder of political circumstances surrounding the death of the Fourth Kangyur Khutughtu in 1913. The seal was later preserved by the Fifth Kangyur Khutughtu, who regarded it as an important object of lineage authority. After the destruction of the temple treasury and the loss of many official documents and ritual objects during the upheavals of the 1940s, this silver seal was among the few important objects retained and was brought to Taiwan in 1949. https://www.bshu1926.com/bsarchive/bscalligraphy-1/
