'Alam al-Deen al-Sakhawi once wrote: [اعلم بأن القرآن العزيز يُقرأ للتعلم؛ فالواجب التقليل والتكرير، ويُقرأ للتدبر؛ فالواجب الترتيل والتوقف، ويُقرأ لتحصيل الأجر بكثرة القراءة؛ فله أن يقرأ ما استطاع ولا يؤنَّب إذا أراد الإسراع.] You should know that the inimitable Qur'an can be recited: -for learning, in which case it should be recited in small amounts with much repetition -for contemplation, in which case it should be recited slowly with pauses -for rewards by reciting large amounts, in which case one can recite as much as he is able to and should not be criticized if he wants to recite quickly. Wahb Ibn Munabbih رحمه الله said: “It was said to a man [from the Salaf]: Do you not sleep? He would say: The wonders of the Qur’ān have caused me to lose my sleep!” [Az-Zuhd Lil Imām Ahmad: 440]

اَلسَّلاَ مُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَا تُهُ It is indeed a deeply sorrowful day for me and for all the students of the Qur’an. Our beloved Ustadh, Brother Asif Meherali, has returned to his Creator. إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَأَسْكِنْهُ الْفِرْدَوْسَ الْأَعْلَى Words fall short in capturing the immense impact Br. Asif had on our lives. He devoted his life wholeheartedly to the service of the Qur’an, teaching tirelessly and selflessly with profound sincerity, clarity, and kindness. He was a noble soul—gentle, humble, and generous—whose mastery in teaching Qur’anic Arabic made even the most complex grammar rules beautifully simple and accessible. Through his soft-spoken manner and patient approach, he nurtured in us a deep love for the Qur’an. His legacy is not just in his knowledge, but in the hearts he inspired and the generations of students he uplifted with his quiet strength and unwavering commitment. He was a founder of LQ Toronto (LQT), where he served with dedication, embodying the spirit of its mission to spread Qur’anic understanding. His presence was a blessing, his absence is a loss beyond words. May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى,  forgive his shortcomings, envelop him in mercy, honour his resting place expand his grave with His “noor”, and grant him the highest place in Jannat al-Firdaws. May He bless his family and loved ones with strength, patience, and peace during this difficult time, and keep all of us firm upon the path of faith and righteousness. Amin. Our Lord reminds us: ‎يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ “O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” Surah al-Baqarah (2:153): Indeed, nothing befalls us except by the will of Allah. In His perfect wisdom, He reminds us to turn to Him in patience and prayer, and to place our hopes in the life to come. ‎بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا ‎وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ “But you prefer the worldly life, while the Hereafter is better and more enduring.” Surah al-Aʿlā (87:16–17): We are all on a journey toward the ultimate reality. Ahlus-Sunnah3: ◽️Imâm Mâlik was asked about the one who reads the Qur’ân, then completes it and makes Du’â’. So he said: I have not heard that he [the Prophet ﷺ] would supplicate at the completion of the Qur’ân, and it is not from the actions of the people. [Al-Madkhal] ◽️‘Abdul Mâlik al-‘Alwân said: My father [Sulaymân al-‘Alwân] said: the supplication on the completion of the Qur’ân during the salâh is not confirmed from the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, nor from any of the sahâbah. Acts of worship are based on proof, so whoever does an act of worship without proof, then he has innovated in the religion. ◽️Al-Muhaddith ‘Abdullâh as-Sa’d said: The supplication on the completion of the Qur’ân is not confirmed from the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, neither during the salâh nor outside it. And what is reported from Anas [ibn Mâlik] is only that he would gather his family when completing [the Qur’ân], without [the mention of] supplicating.

Ar-Ra'd 13:28 ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah - Islamic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah: verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.

The word Kafir, most frequently translated “disbeliever/ unbeliever,” also means “ungrateful” as specified here: Surat Al-Insan (The Human) 76:3 إِنَّا هَدَيْنَاهُ السَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا "Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful." The Arabic uses the word shakiran which exclusively means “thankful/ grateful” and juxtaposes it with kafura (derived from the same root as kafir and used the same way), thereby showing here the same word commonly understood as “disbelieving” clearly means “ungrateful.” This shows us that disbelief, more accurately translated “denial”, is at heart a lack of thankfulness. When we think of the original Arabic root word as kufr, which means “denial,” and comes from “to cover (up)” where you can hear the similarity between cover and kufr (like cof-er; Arabic has no “v” sound), then we can understand the relationship between ungratefulness and disbelief: both are forms of denial. —114 Chambers

‎ ِبآياتٍ عَطِرَةٍ مِنَ الذِّكْرِ الحَكيْم This morning from Deir al Bala —suhailnssar (IG) _____ وَمَا لَنَا أَلَّا نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَانَا سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ عَلَىٰ مَا آذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ وَعَلَى اللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ [ إبراهيم: 12] "And why should we not rely upon Allah while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allah let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

If you see that your heart is not moved by the Qur’an, accuse yourself!
