Sociology is like music to me I can hear it Hear it everywhere I want you to hear it with me And enjoy the melody this world presents And change it, if you feel strongly enough about changing it 😊
Last… Top Arguments of the Essay: 1. Hyperactive politicians on social media is a symptom, not the cause 2. Elite fragmentation is the core crisis 3. Social media replaces institutions 4. Weak parties weaken democracy 5. Personality politics replaces institutional politics (happening even more rapidly because of social media) 6. Governments govern through headlines (this one perhaps is the most important take away for me) 7. Political time shrinks to the news cycle (we are seeing a flood of news channels and even so many people on social media are now turning into news reporters) 8. Capital is fragmented across sectors 9. Europe lacks strategic coherence 10. China's party-state enables long-term coordination (makes it starkly different from the rest of the world)
Some Quick Definitions: 1. Hyperpolitics: intense political mobilization without durable institutional capacity 2. Post-politics: technocratic consensus with weak ideological contestation 3. Elite hyperpolitics: governing elites become polarised and reactive 4. Politics of events: governance driven by crises and headlines rather than long-term planning Other terms (including the above ones) are self explanatory are used often in sociology
Summarising quickly: Hyperpolitics describes a condition of intense political mobilization but weak institutional capacity Western elites are increasingly fragmented, producing short-term, event-driven governance China is a contrasting case of stronger elite coordination and long-term planning
