August 4, 2026, marks a pivotal moment for higher education in Ethiopia. Leveling up higher education through innovation, a four-day Practical VR Training has officially launched at Dire Dawa University as part of the EU- and Erasmus+-co-funded MaDE-for-UASs project. The initiative addresses a critical need: Ethiopian Universities of Applied Sciences must produce a skilled, technologically adept workforce capable of solving real-world societal problems. To achieve this, empowering lecturers with advanced pedagogic and technology skills is essential. As a three-year international initiative bridging Ethiopia and Europe, MaDE-for-UASs is hoped to bring industry experience straight to the classroom through Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR). SMU is among the institutions in the consortium implementing this valuable project. MaDE-for-UASs is co-funded by the EU, Erasmus+ Program.
