Secure the nation. And that requires moral clarity in both directions. We must not become cruel merely because we possess power. But neither may we turn morality into an excuse for refusing to use the power necessary to protect innocent Jewish life. That is not morality. That is abandoning our responsibility. The connection between the judge and the warrior… At first glance, judges and soldiers seem like completely different subjects. But I believe Shoftim deliberately teaches us something profound by placing these institutions inside the same vision of Jewish sovereignty. Both require courage. A judge needs courage to pursue justice even when the truth implicates powerful colleagues or institutions. A soldier needs courage to confront an enemy even when the battle is frightening and costly. The judge cannot be afraid of the establishment. The warrior cannot be afraid of the enemy. Both must be guided by faith in God that leads to focusing on truth rather than fear. And both must understand that the authority entrusted to them is not ultimately about themselves. It is about serving Am Yisrael according to Hashem’s values in Hashem’s Land. That is Jewish sovereignty. Not merely possessing power. Using power responsibly. Not merely having courts. Pursuing justice. Not merely possessing an army. Having the faith and clarity to use it to defend the Jewish people and defeat our enemies. Shoftim is our parsha For generations, Jews could read these verses and dream. One day we'll have Jewish judges again. One day we'll have Jewish police again. One day we'll have Jewish soldiers again. One day we'll govern ourselves again. One day we'll return home. That “one day” is today. We are living inside the dream of our ancestors. And that means we also carry the responsibilities they could only study about. We must demand judges worthy of public trust. We must demand institutions that pursue truth even when the truth is uncomfortable. We must demand leaders who understand that Jewish sovereignty requires responsibility. And when our enemies rise against us, we must remember the words spoken to Jewish warriors thousands of years ago: Do not let your hearts become faint. Do not fear. Do not panic. Do not be terrified. Because after thousands of years, Hashem has returned His people to His Land. Our generation has witnessed miracles our ancestors could barely have imagined. Now we must have the courage to live up to them. Tzedek, tzedek tirdof. Pursue justice. And when forced to fight: Fight with clarity. Fight with strength. Fight with faith. Because Jewish sovereignty is not merely the right to govern ourselves. It is the responsibility to protect ourselves, pursue justice, defeat those who seek our destruction, and build the God-centered Jewish society we were brought home to build. Strengthen your faith. Justice is connected to our ability to flourish in Eretz Yisrael. Because Hashem did not return us to this Land merely to create another Western democratic state with a Jewish flag. We were returned here to rebuild a Jewish civilization. A society where truth matters. Where leaders are accountable. Where judges pursue justice rather than institutional power. Where the powerful are subject to the same standards as everybody else. But then Shoftim moves from the courtroom to another institution absolutely central to Jewish sovereignty: the battlefield. How a Jewish nation goes to war… Chapter 20 establishes the Torah’s laws of warfare. And listen to what the Kohen tells Jewish soldiers immediately before they go into battle: “Hear, O Israel, you are approaching battle against your enemies today. Let your heart not be faint; do not fear, do not panic, and do not be terrified of them.” — Devarim 20:3 Why shouldn't we fear? Because the Torah continues: “For Hashem your God is the One Who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” — Devarim 20:4 Read those words again. Do not let your heart become faint. That is not merely a nice inspirational message. It is part of the Torah’s instructions for war. The Torah understands that wars are not won only with weapons. They are won with spirit. With clarity. With confidence. With faith. With soldiers who understand what they are fighting for and a nation that believes in their mission. Psychological strength is part of national security. And psychological defeat can be devastating before the physical battle has even been decided. Faith in God is part of Israel's military posture. How unbelievably relevant this is to our generation. Since October 7, we have witnessed an extraordinary generation of Jewish warriors. Young men leaving their wives and children. Reservists dropping everything and running to their units. Soldiers entering Gaza, Lebanon and other fronts knowing exactly what is at stake. And again and again, you hear the same message from them: Give us the mission. Let us win. Our soldiers understand something incredibly profound. They are not merely fighting for another piece of territory. They are defending Am Yisrael in Eretz Yisrael. They are the descendants of the Jewish warriors to whom these very verses were originally spoken. After 2,000 years, Jewish soldiers once again stand before battle in the Land of Israel. And the Torah speaks directly to them: Do not be afraid. Do not panic. Do not become psychologically defeated. Why? Because: “Hashem your God is the One Who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.” That does not mean we don't need tanks. It doesn't mean we don't need intelligence. It doesn't mean we don't need strategy, discipline, technology or responsible military leadership. Of course we do. The Torah itself gives detailed laws governing warfare. But all of those things must rest upon something deeper: Emunah. Faith in God. Knowing who we are. Knowing why we are here. Knowing what we are fighting for. And knowing that Jewish history did not bring us home after 2,000 years just so that we could be frightened out of defending ourselves. And yet Torah warfare has boundaries. This is equally important. The Torah commands strength without teaching barbarism. Chapter 20 distinguishes between different categories of warfare and gives laws governing enemies, cities and sieges. And even in the middle of a siege, the Torah commands: “You shall not destroy its trees by wielding an axe against them…” — Devarim 20:19 This is the foundation of bal tashchit. Even while fighting a war, destruction is not supposed to become an end in itself. That distinction matters. The Torah does not teach weakness. It teaches disciplined strength. There is an enormous difference between destroying what must be destroyed to defeat an enemy and destroying merely for the sake of destruction. Jewish warfare has a purpose: Defeat the enemy. Protect Jewish life.

Parshat Shoftim begins with one of the most fundamental commandments for building a healthy Jewish society: “Judges and officers you shall appoint for yourself in all your gates… and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.” — Devarim 16:18 And then comes one of the Torah’s most famous commands: “Tzedek, tzedek tirdof — Justice, justice shall you pursue, so that you may live and inherit the Land that Hashem your God gives you.” — Devarim 16:20 Notice something extraordinary. Parshat Shoftim is not primarily speaking to Jews living as a minority under somebody else’s government. It is teaching us how to run a Jewish country. Judges. Police. Courts. National leadership. A king. Property rights. Criminal justice. War. National security. Responsibility for innocent blood. For nearly 2,000 years, so much of this was theoretical. And then the unbelievable happened. We came home, returned as sovereign. We once again have Jewish judges, Jewish police, Jewish political leaders and Jewish soldiers defending a sovereign Jewish nation in the Land of Israel. That is an unbelievable privilege. But sovereignty does not only restore Jewish power. It restores Jewish responsibility. And Shoftim gives us two messages our generation desperately needs to hear: we need a justice system worthy of the people’s trust, and we need a nation with the faith and confidence necessary to defeat its enemies. Justice is not merely a justice system. The Torah does not simply command us to establish courts. It demands: “Tzedek, tzedek tirdof.” Pursue justice. Having impressive court buildings is not enough. Having judges, prosecutors, attorney generals and legal experts is not enough. A justice system is worthy of its name only when it relentlessly pursues truth and justice. And that means nobody can be above scrutiny, including the people entrusted with administering justice themselves. The Torah explicitly warns: “You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not show favoritism.” — Devarim 16:19 Justice cannot depend upon who stands before the court. Right or left. Religious or secular. Powerful or powerless. Government minister or protester. Police officer or civilian. Prosecutor or another prosecutor. Justice has to be justice. And that is precisely where so many Israelis today feel something has gone terribly wrong. When serious allegations involve people inside the legal establishment itself, the public must know that judges and legal officials will pursue the truth with exactly the same determination they demand when investigating everyone else. If the public sees, or even reasonably perceives, judges covering for fellow judges, prosecutors protecting prosecutors, or legal officials protecting other members of their own establishment rather than relentlessly investigating what actually happened, something much greater than one particular case is damaged. Trust is destroyed. And once citizens stop believing that the same rules apply to everyone, the justice system begins losing the moral authority upon which it depends. Trust cannot be demanded. Chazal understood that being a judge requires much more than legal intelligence. The Rambam, based upon Chazal, describes judges as people possessing wisdom, humility, fear of Heaven, hatred of money, love of truth, and a good reputation (Hilchot Sanhedrin 2:7). Love of truth. That says everything. A true judge does not ask: How do I protect my institution? He asks: What is true? He doesn't ask: What will this investigation do to the reputation of my colleagues? He asks: Was there wrongdoing? A healthy justice system should never fear investigating itself. It should fear injustice. And when public confidence has been damaged, the answer cannot simply be to lecture Israelis that they must respect the judiciary. Respect cannot be commanded. Trust must be earned. And then the Torah makes an astonishing connection: “Justice, justice shall you pursue, so that you may live and inherit the Land that Hashem your God gives you.”

We cannot be afraid to name jihadist extremism. Jihadism and Islamist extremism are real threats. Pretending otherwise doesn't protect America, Europe or peaceful Muslims who reject this ideology. Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has announced that declassified files will be released in the coming weeks about a former member of Congress who placed “interns” in other offices who were agents of foreign governments. After the reporting, Cammack confirmed the foreign government in question is Qatar. Cammack has introduced legislation requiring background checks and disclosure of foreign ties for congressional staff precisely because this is a live national-security problem. Qatar, a major funder of the Muslim Brotherhood and a longtime host of Hamas leadership, has every interest in shaping American opinion, including turning Christians and Conservatives who have historically been Israel’s strongest base of support in the United States, against Israel and the Jews. When influence operations of this kind succeed, even friends of Israel can be steered into language that serves the other side’s narrative. The “settler violence” campaign is one of the preferred tools. Complex events on the ground in Judea and Samaria are stripped of context, history, and the daily reality of jihadi violence against Jews, then packaged for maximum moral outrage. The result is that Jews defending the high ground of our homeland are labeled the aggressors, while the strategic land-grab and terror infrastructure that provoked the confrontation disappear from the story. And the jihadi enemy population who self-identify as “Palestinians” is not even labeled as an enemy. Huckabee’s goodwill toward Israel is not in doubt. The quality of the information reaching him, and reaching many others, is. Until that pipeline is cleaned, good friends will keep being recruited, sometimes unknowingly, into a campaign whose goal is the opposite of what they intend. The young Jews on those hills are not terrorists, they are Jewish heroes on the frontline against jihad trying to protect the Israeli population and the whole freedom-loving world. They are the thin line holding land that the Palestinian Authority, with European funding and international diplomatic cover, is trying to seize. The real foreign interference is the effort to make Americans, especially Christians and Conservatives, stop seeing that clearly. We need our friends to demand the full context before they believe the daily lies against us. Anything less hands another victory to those who have been running this campaign for years. And the battle delegitimizing “settlers” is ultimately about delegitimizing all Israelis. We overcame 2,000 years of exile and blood libels. We will overcome these blood libels too. The “settler violence” narrative, carefully cultivated as a central theme for the coming election season, swallowed the story whole. Even some on our own side repeated the talking points without examining the sequence of events, the terror history of the village, or the strategic PA land grab. Let us be clear about the actual elements: - A village with a record of terror against Jews. - An Arab activist with documented involvement in violent attacks who should not be free. - A house built away from the village as part of a nationalist push to control strategic high ground and terrorize Jews. - Jewish shepherds and young families asserting a presence on land that is the heart of the Jewish homeland. - No verified violence by those shepherds against the Arab family or against IDF forces in the version of events coming from the ground. These young men and families are not the problem. They are doing what Jews must do if we intend to remain in our land, when the IDF policies fail us: they go to the places the enemy is trying to take, and they stay. They live under threat from a population that has murdered Jews before and continues to try. They accept the danger while much of the country debates them from a comfortable distance. The Palestinian Authority, with European funding and international diplomatic cover, works methodically to create facts on the ground that erase Jewish presence. The hilltop youth disrupt that project with their bodies. Calling them the aggressors while ignoring the terror infrastructure and the strategic land grab is not moral clarity. It is moral inversion. I am not defending every action by every individual. Criminal violence should be investigated and punished, by Jews against Arabs or Arabs against Jews. But the automatic rush to condemn the Jews on the hill, the adoption of the media framing without scrutiny, and the failure to defend those who are actually holding the line is a failure of leadership and of basic solidarity. These young people are willing to put themselves in danger on the front line of the struggle for the land. That is not extremism. That is the continuation of the Zionist act of settlement under fire. The real extremism is the ideology that still seeks to make the Land of Israel free of Jews, one ridge at a time. We should be thanking the people who refuse to surrender the high ground. Instead, too many are busy echoing the campaign against them. It is time to stop. Check the facts. Stand with the Jews who are standing on the land. The alternative is to keep handing victories to those who openly work to take it from us. Ambassador Mike Huckabee is a genuine friend of Israel. That is precisely why the language he initially used is so damaging. When a friend reaches for the word “terrorist,” especially when it is totally disconnected from the truth, it becomes harder to reclaim the truth. Huckabee knows foreign governments have been investing heavily in the USA with efforts to turn Christians and Conservatives against Israel. The information pipeline that reaches even well-intentioned supporters is contaminated. We have already seen it with the Taybeh church story, an initial claim of Jews burning an ancient church that collapsed when the truth got out that it was Jews putting out a fire ignited from Arabs, that got close to a destroyed ancient Church building, yet still produced strong condemnations, even from Huckabee, before the facts caught up. The same machinery is at work again. This is not abstract. Congresswoman Kat Cammack has confirmed reporting that Qatar is the hostile country placing foreign agents inside the offices of members of Congress, disguised as “interns.” This follows a report that the FBI is investigating a top GOP congressional staffer who has allegedly worked as an undisclosed Qatari agent inside Congress for at least three years.

The headlines are back. “Settler violence.” “Extremists besiege Palestinian family.” And this time even US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, a genuine friend of Israel and of Jewish rights in Judea and Samaria, joined the chorus, calling the young Jews involved “Israeli terrorists” and describing their actions as a “horrific act of terror.” He has since walked it back. But the damage was done. All of this over events on a mountaintop in Samaria, on the slopes of Jabal Ein Aneva, high ground between Migdalim and the Shilo bloc, not deep inside the Arab village of Kusra as being reported. High ground the Palestinian Authority has been working for years to seize. Before we accept the framing of the media, please take a moment with me to stop and look at what is actually happening. Kusra is not a quiet farming village. It has a documented history of terror against Jews: lynchings of hikers, including boys on a bar mitzvah trip; bomb attacks; regular riots. For years the PA and local village councils marked Jabal Ein Aneva — the second-highest mountain in Samaria — as a strategic target. Whoever controls that ridge controls the surrounding region. They paved roads, prepared sites, and rapidly built homes with PA funding to push Arab settlement onto the mountain. One of the people who stepped forward for that project was Kosai Abu Rida from Kusra. About eight months ago, just before the ridge could be fully taken, Jewish families and young men went up and established a presence at the top. They named it Tel Talfiot. That is what Jews do when land that is ours is being seized: we go up. Kusra answered with a campaign of terror. A flock of sheep was poisoned. Explosive charges were planted and only neutralized at the last second. Residents faced attacks and lynch attempts. Shepherds were assaulted. Kosai Abu Rida himself was documented participating in a brutal lynching of a shepherd, pinning him down and attempting to strike him in the head with a hoe. He was arrested and absurdly released. Masked rioters were filmed throwing stones from the area of his house. Just three weeks ago, shooting attacks were carried out from the vicinity of his house toward the Jewish hill. Two weeks ago, during a heatwave, a few Jewish shepherds set up a temporary pen on the slopes, two terraces below Kosai’s house. That house sits as a forward outpost on the path to the spring the sheep use for water. According to those on the ground, there was no violence directed at the residents of the house. No one prevented the family from coming or going. No one raised a hand against security forces. On the contrary, the young men on the hill have maintained cooperation with the IDF soldiers in the sector. They were even documented praying Mincha together, an act that our soldiers are being shamed for taking part in. Why did these proud Jewish resettlers in Samaria do this? Because of an IDF policy of decades that refuses to treat an enemy population that terrorizes us daily as an enemy, while ordering soldiers to preserve as much “normal civilian life” as possible for that same enemy jihadi population. So Jewish resettlers step in to protect Jewish lives when the army will not. That illegally built home on the mountaintop that just got headline news around the world should have been demolished months ago by the IDF. That is the real problem. The moment the IDF treats the enemy population in Judea and Samaria as an enemy, there will be no need for any “settler” to ever get involved like this again. Kosai, connected to the effort to push Jews off the mountain and to left-wing organizations, launched a media offensive. Dramatic reports spread. The IDF spokesperson came under pressure and issued condemnations. Senior commanders rushed to the scene. Forces were sent to dismantle and confiscate. A few dozen young men tried to block a road to prevent the confiscation of vehicles, the kind of protest Israelis have seen hundreds of times in other contexts. According to those present, they did not attack the forces. From there the machine took over.

America cannot afford to normalize jihadist extremism. From 9/11 to October 7, we have seen what happens when ideological hatred and support for terrorism are excused, minimized or ignored. Stop pretending governments aligned ideologically or politically with jihadist Islamist movements can simultaneously serve as neutral arbiters between Israel and those seeking Israel's destruction. And recognize Erdoğan's Turkey for what it has become, an enemy waiting to fill the vacuum of a weakened jihadist Shiite Iran, not the unquestioned, dependable strategic friend its NATO membership might suggest. The United States must reassess that relationship accordingly. And now, according to these reports, Iranian intelligence was allegedly tracking the President of the United States with frightening precision while an apparent surface-to-air missile threat was being investigated nearby. Suddenly this isn't theoretical. Suddenly the target wasn't an Israeli prime minister. It wasn't an IDF commander. It wasn't an Israeli family living near Gaza. It was President Donald Trump. And Who Reportedly Helped Warn America? Israel. That should matter. Not because America "owes" Israel obedience. That isn't how alliances should work. It matters because this episode demonstrates something far more fundamental: American and Israeli security interests overlap because we are confronting many of the same enemies. Israel's intelligence services spend every day penetrating terrorist organizations and hostile regimes that threaten not only Israelis but Americans and other Westerners. Israeli soldiers confront those forces physically. Israeli families live on the front line. We know these enemies because we don't have the luxury of misunderstanding them. When Israel warns America about Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah or other jihadist movements, we aren't trying to drag America into our war. We are warning our friends about our shared jihadi Muslim enemy. Which Makes Trump's Turkey Policy Even More Troubling This is also why Trump's Gaza peace plan is so troubling. Trump’s new 15-point Gaza implementation roadmap was developed with the involvement of Qatar and Turkey. Stop and think about that. Israel fought Hamas for years. Israeli soldiers died fighting Hamas. Israeli families were slaughtered by Hamas. Our hostages were dragged into Hamas tunnels. And now governments that support Hamas are being given significant diplomatic roles in designing what comes next in Gaza? How can that possibly make sense? It doesn’t. Would President Trump entrust America's security to countries maintaining intimate relationships with America's enemies? Of course not. Neither should Israel. President Trump has done historic things for Israel. Moving the American embassy to Jerusalem. Recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. Standing against Iran. Supporting Israel at moments when much of the Western world turned against us. And helping bring Israeli hostages home. Those things matter enormously. Which is precisely why I hope this frightening episode in Turkey becomes another historic turning point. President Trump should look carefully at the people around him and ask: Who actually stands with America? Who shares intelligence that can save American lives? Who fights the same terrorist networks threatening Americans? Who celebrates America and who chants for its destruction? And who embraces organizations committed to destroying America's closest Middle Eastern ally? The answers are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Israel Is America's Ally. Jihadi Islam Is America's Enemy. Israel doesn't need America to fight Israel's wars. We need America to allow Israel to win them. Let Israel finish the job and dismantle Hamas. No international force has either the ability or the willingness to do it. Let Israel dismantle the jihadist infrastructure in Gaza. Let Israel be the victor that keeps the spoils and remain in Gaza forever, as no other power will prevent the rearming of jihadi terrorists in Gaza. Let Israel destroy Hezbollah. Let Israel dismantle the jihadist infrastructure in Lebanon. The Lebanese government has proven over decades that it neither has the ability or the willingness to do it. Let Israel be the victor that keeps the spoils and remain in Southern Lebanon forever, as no other power will prevent the rearming of jihadi Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon. Let Israel prevent Iran from rebuilding the terrorist armies it constructed around us. Stop empowering Qatar and Turkey to determine Gaza's future.

According to explosive reports emerging from Washington, American officials believed Iran posed a credible threat to assassinate President Trump and endanger Air Force One as he prepared to leave last month's NATO summit in Ankara. And the details are chilling. Iranian intelligence reportedly knew extraordinarily precise information about Trump's whereabouts, including where he was staying and even the floor of his hotel. Even more disturbing, U.S. intelligence reportedly had information concerning a man armed with a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile near Ankara. The threat was taken so seriously that an extraordinary deception operation was reportedly undertaken to get the President of the United States safely out of Turkey. Trump publicly boarded Air Force One. But he didn't leave on it. Instead, according to reports, he was secretly moved across the airport concealed in a catering vehicle and transferred to a smaller military aircraft while Air Force One effectively served as a decoy. And according to Israeli reporting citing American officials, Israeli intelligence provided crucial warning concerning the Iranian threat that helped trigger the operation to protect President Trump. Think about that for a moment. The Jewish state that is constantly lectured by the international community about how we should defend ourselves may have provided intelligence that helped protect the life of the President of the United States from the very evil Islamic jihadi regime of Iran that Israel has been warning the world about for decades. I hope President Trump understands the enormous significance of what just happened. Because this isn't only about Iran. It should also force Washington to reconsider something else: Turkey under Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is no longer behaving like the dependable Western ally Washington continues to pretend it is. Even more disturbing, some reports have raised the possibility that the extraordinarily detailed intelligence Iran possessed about President Trump’s movements in Ankara originated from Turkish sources. If substantiated, that would raise extraordinarily serious questions about the security of Trump’s America relationship with Erdoğan’s Turkey. President Trump repeatedly refers to Erdoğa with extraordinary warmth and respect. I understand diplomacy. I understand that Turkey is a NATO member. I understand that presidents sometimes have to maintain relationships with leaders they fundamentally disagree with. But there comes a point when diplomatic pragmatism becomes strategic blindness. Erdoğan's Turkey is a Muslim Brotherhood entity. He has spent years cultivating relations with Hamas. Hamas officials have been welcomed in Turkey. Erdoğan has publicly defended Hamas and rejected the characterization of it as simply a terrorist organization. His government has positioned itself as one of the loudest international champions of the anti-Israel Palestinian cause while repeatedly attacking Israel rhetorically, stating clearly their intent to conquer Jerusalem. Iran's Shiite jihad Islamic regime and the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood jihadist are two different movements with the same goal, to conquer and persecute all non-Muslims all over the world, including Israel and America. America cannot afford to ignore that reality simply because Erdoğa smiles for the cameras, belongs to NATO and knows how to flatter President Trump. For decades Israel has been telling the Western world: The jihadi Muslims aren't coming only for us. Israel is simply on the front line. Iran doesn't chant only "Death to Israel." It chants "Death to America." That isn't Israeli propaganda. Those are their words. October 7 wasn't merely another chapter in an Israeli-Arab territorial dispute. It showed the world what jihadist ideology looks like when terrorists are given the opportunity to implement it.

I'm NOT panicking over Trump's Gaza deal. Netanyahu knows Israel's alliance with President Trump matters, especially against Iran. But Hamas will not voluntarily disarm or abandon its jihadist ideology. October 7 taught us the price of building peace on illusions.
