🇺🇸🇮🇷⚡️ — NEW: The USS Abraham Lincoln’s supply problems began after Iran heavily damaged the U.S. Navy base in Bahrain (NSA Bahrain) at the start of the war, knocking out a logistics hub the Navy had relied on for decades, NYT reports. With other Gulf ports also vulnerable to Iranian attacks, the Pentagon shifted its main regional supply hub to Diego Garcia, roughly 3,540 km (2,200 miles) from U.S. carrier groups operating in the Gulf of Oman. The much longer supply route contributed to shortages and logistical problems aboard carriers supporting operations against Iran. The Lincoln has now spent nearly nine months at sea without a liberty port, amid reports of shortages of basic supplies and worsening crew morale and mental health. Bahrain and Fujairah, normally used for carrier port calls, remain within range of Iranian missiles. Iran itself targeted Diego Garcia with two medium-range ballistic missiles on March 20 after it became the new logistics hub; one fell short in the Indian Ocean and another was intercepted by a U.S. Navy warship.
🇺🇸🇨🇳⚡️ — The U.S. is preparing to tell dozens of countries they must choose between American and Chinese AI frameworks, warning that countries joining Beijing’s initiative could be excluded from the U.S.-led Pax Silica coalition, Reuters reports. A draft State Department letter to 35 countries warns that membership represents a commitment and “cannot be held alongside membership in duplicative initiatives whose expectations conflict with our own,” urging governments to “choose deliberately” on AI. The U.S. hopes forcing partners to choose sides will restrict China’s access to critical resources and technology.

UAE Says Iran Struck Two of Its Tankers Near Hormuz The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned what it described as an Iranian attack that targeted two vessels affiliated with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while they were transiting the Strait of Hormuz late on August 13. In a statement, the UAE Foreign Ministry said no injuries were reported in the attack, which it said was a “flagrant violation” of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 on freedom of navigation. It noted that targeting commercial shipping and obstructing international maritime routes threaten regional stability and global energy security. The ministry also accused Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of “acts of piracy,” saying the use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of “economic coercion or blackmail” poses a direct threat to the region and its peoples. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on August 14 two identical incidents of strikes on tankers in Hormuz a day earlier. Read more HERE
U.S. Lost 45 MQ-9 Drones During War With Iran The United States military has lost at least 45 MQ-9 Reaper combat drones, or roughly 25% of its fleet, during its war with Iran, The Washington Post reported on August 13, citing three officials. The MQ-9, developed by General Atomics, is primarily used by the U.S. military to collect intelligence, but has the ability to conduct pinpoint strikes. The advanced drone can reportedly operate for more than 27 hours and reach altitudes of over 25,000 feet. A single drone of this type can cost between $30 million and $50 million, depending on its equipment, according to the report. The Post said the potential cost of the lost Reapers exceeds $1.3 billion. The drones have been heavily used around the Strait of Hormuz but are "relatively easy targets" for Iran and its proxies because they fly slowly and often at low altitudes, the report noted. Off Leash update 14 August 2026 UKRAINE •Russia has escalated its strikes on Ukrainian grain exports - perhaps as in-kind retaliation for Ukraine's strikes on Wildberries commercial warehouses and oil exports. •Ukraine logged at least 50 attacks on its cargo ships in June and July, and said those strikes killed over 30 civilians. •Analysts worry that Russia's strikes on Ukrainian grain cargoes could cause another global food crisis like the one that put an estimated 70 million people at risk of acute food insecurity in 2022. •This time could be worse: Russia has better long-range weapons than it did in 2022, and slow-moving cargo ships make easy targets. UK •Reform UK leader Nigel Farage defeated Count Binface in a special by-election that Farage called for, but Binface - who is not a real nobleman - beat pollsters' expectations to win 27% of the vote. Turnout was high, even though the UK's main parties sat out. •Farage seemed to get the message that 27% of voters sent by voting for a trash can over him. He declined to give a victory speech and huffed to Reform supporters: "I am damned if I am going to stand on a stage, having won a resounding victory, a ringing endorsement of all that I’ve tried to fight for and you’ve tried to fight for, and be demeaned and humiliated by nobodies." WEST BANK •The Israeli military belatedly and halfheartedly evicted around a dozen belligerent settlers who had been antagonizing two Palestinian families in the West Bank for nearly a week. •Hours later, nine of the dispersed settlers returned and resumed their siege on the two homes, whose residents remain fearfully trapped inside. •The UN estimates that extremist settlers carried out over 1,380 attacks on 250 Palestinian communities in the West Bank in the first seven months of 2026. •They've been emboldened by the current Israeli government's rapid expansion of existing and new settlements - all of which the UN deems illegal. https://x.com/i/status/2088211508991865165

Iran Is Rapidly Rebuilding Missile Arsenal Israeli officials are reassessing Iran's ability to rebuild its military capabilities after the Islamic Republic resumed weapons production far faster than expected following the latest war, The Jerusalem Post reported on August 13. Both the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Mossad officials have been surprised by the pace of Iran's recovery, particularly its ballistic missile capabilities. IDF experts had maintained that the scale of the strikes had set Iran's military-industrial capabilities back by years, despite foreign media reports questioning some Israeli assessments. However, the military is now seeing a stunningly speedy turnaround that it did not expect, not merely in one or another specific area, but in many areas, including ballistic missile, according to the Post. BREAKING: Iran warns it is preparing for military operations on US soil following a “new military doctrine tasking IRGC to attack enemy in its soil,” adding Iran will “take operations into enemy territory, into the enemy’s lands, and carry out operations far from our own territory,” IRGC senior advisor General Mohammad Reza Naqdi says. “Whenever the conditions are favorable and the order is issued, we must be able to take the operation into enemy territory,” Naqdi adds. https://x.com/i/status/2087687998523453646
