WEEKLY DEVOTION: 10 AUGUST 2026 | Temptation Proverbs 7:21-23 “With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk. All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.” We don’t talk about temptation often. Proverbs 7 personifies the adulteress woman eyeing her prey like a smooth predator, making deliberate preparation to lure her victim with sight, sound and smell. The seduction is alluring, turning the innocent into the guilty. The consequences are just as pictorial, as the Teacher uses creatures to reflect the animalistic nature of the yielded as an ox going to slaughter, a deer stepping into a noose, and a bird darting into a snare. Dressing temptation as an adulteress, we are reminded that destructive influences do not always come with two horns and a tail, but the repercussions are just as diabolically fatal. As the saying goes “prevention is better than cure”, the Teacher exhorts that the solution is found in God’s Word. Like building a safeguard against an attack, keep the Word, store up the command (7:1), see obedience as life and death (7:2), find ways to remind yourself of its importance (7:3), and develop close kinship with wisdom and insights (7:4). All these will be one’s guard against temptations. The Word gives us clarity on what is right and wrong, undergirded by the underlying basis of the book of Proverbs “the fear of the Lord” (1:7), which is a call to remember God as all seeing and Almighty. Giving in to sin has a way of hardening the heart and bringing one into a spiral of addiction. It is not easy to get out of its lure but one can by giving one’s desire back to God and by responding to His immense love with an intense love for Him. It might take a rude shock to get out of the hands of the seducer, one that Paul poses in Romans 2:4, “or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and restraint and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?” Ps Loke Chi Shyan

COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 10-15 AUGUST 2026 Pray for the World: Peace in the Middle East This week, let us pray specifically for the efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and reduce tensions in the Gulf. A stable agreement would not only reduce the risk of wider regional conflict but also help stabilise global energy supplies and lessen economic pressures felt around the world. Pray thatnegotiations among Iran, Oman and other regional partners would lead to a durable agreement that reduces the risk of further conflict. Pray for humanitarian aid to reach those suffering in Gaza, Yemen and Lebanon. Pray that Christians throughout the Middle East would be strengthened to bear witness to Christ through ministries of compassion, reconciliation and hope.   Pray For Singapore: National Day Let us continue to uphold our nation as we celebrate our 61stanniversary. Give thanks to the Lord for the peace and security we enjoy in a turbulent region; for wise governance and the harmony that exists among people of different races and religions; for opportunities in education, healthcare and economic development that have enabled many to flourish.Pray for our political leaders to have wisdom, integrity and humility as they lead our nation through an increasingly uncertain and complex world, to make decisions not only for today, but for the long-term good of Singapore. As Singapore becomes increasingly diverse and faces economic uncertainty, an ageing population and growing mental health needs, pray that we will continue in the ways of justice, peace and mutual respect as we honour one another and seek the common good.   Pray for the Church: Yishun Christian Centre (Anglican) Remember YCCA in prayer. WEEKLY DEVOTION: 3 AUGUST 2026 | Breaking the Patterns of Our Family How did your family deal with conflict when you were growing up? Was anger expressed openly, or quietly suppressed? Were problems talked through, or simply ignored? The way our families handled conflict often shapes how we respond to relationships today. Scripture teaches us that the blessings and sins of previous generations can profoundly influence our lives (Deut. 5:9). However, when we come to faith in Jesus Christ, we are not destined to repeat the patterns of our family of origin. Discipleship is, in part, the lifelong process of putting off old ways of living and learning a new way of life in the family of God. As the Apostle Paul writes: "Walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called... one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." (Eph. 4:1–6) Joseph's life is a powerful example of this transformation. He was born into a deeply complicated family. Jacob (Joseph’s father) had two wives, two concubines, and twelve sons living under one roof. Joseph was his father's favourite son, and the favouritism bred deep resentment among his brothers. Consumed by jealousy, they sold Joseph into slavery, believing they would never see him again. Joseph's suffering was only beginning. For more than a decade, he lived first as a slave and then as a prisoner after being falsely accused. Yet through God's providence, Joseph was lifted from prison and appointed second only to Pharaoh, becoming the ruler over Egypt. Years later, during a severe famine, Joseph's brothers came to Egypt seeking food. Joseph eventually revealed himself to them and invited the whole family to settle in Egypt. After Jacob died, the brothers feared that Joseph would finally seek revenge. Instead, Joseph replied: "Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good... So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones." (Gen. 50:19–21) Joseph chose not to respond according to the patterns of his family. Instead of retaliation, he extended forgiveness. Instead of perpetuating the cycle of hurt, he broke it. How was Joseph able to do this? His years of suffering did not harden his heart; they deepened his trust in God. In his loneliness, he learned that God was his security. When life seemed out of control, he discovered that God remained sovereign. When evil threatened to destroy him, he came to know through experience that God could redeem even the darkest circumstances for His good purposes. These were not merely truths Joseph believed intellectually. They became realities forged through years of walking faithfully with God. The same invitation is extended to us. The Holy Spirit is at work, not only to forgive our sins but also to transform the ways we think, relate, and love. We need not remain imprisoned by the unhealthy patterns of our family of origin. Through the patient work of discipleship, we can learn the ways of our heavenly Father and become people who reflect His grace, forgiveness, and love. May we have the courage to allow the Holy Spirit to reshape our lives, so that the legacy we leave for the next generation will not be one of woundedness, but of redemption—for the glory of God.   Rev. COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 3-8 AUGUST 2026 Pray for the World: People of Gaza This week, let us pray specifically for Gaza, where there is both a glimmer of hope for peace and an urgent humanitarian crisis. Pray that the current negotiations would lead to a genuine and lasting peace, with wisdom and courage for all parties involved. Pray that humanitarian aid would reach those in need without delay, especially children, the elderly and displaced families facing food insecurity. Pray that the Lord would comfort those who have suffered loss and trauma, and strengthen churches and Christian ministries serving amidst the conflict.   Pray For Singapore: National Day As our nation celebrates her 61st anniversary, let us give thanks to the Lord for His provision, protection and guidance over Singapore. Give thanks for our pioneer generations and those who have laboured before us. Pray for God’s richest blessings in their senior years. Ask God for wisdom, compassion, humility and discernment as we continue to seek the prosperity of our nation. Pray for our nation to be a blessing tothe nations.   Pray for the Church: St Peter’s Church (StPC) and St Andrew’s City Church (SACtC) Remember StPC and SACtC in prayer. Ask God for unity as the two churches share common facilities and work towards the advancement of God’s kingdom in Serangoon Gardens. SERMON REFLECTION QUESTIONS 1 & 2 AUGUST 2026 1.⁠ ⁠Jonah knew God's character, but God's generosity exposed what was still hidden in his heart. Can you recall a time when God used a difficult situation, relationship, or disappointment to reveal something about your own heart? 2.⁠ ⁠Jonah prayed and obeyed God, yet chapter 4 shows that there were still parts of his heart he had not yet seen. Our spiritual practices help us grow, but they do not always help us notice what is happening within us. Which of your current practices cultivate that kind of awareness? Where might God be inviting you to become more attentive to your heart? 3.⁠ ⁠This week, practise PAUSE. P-ause A-ttend U-ncover S-tay E-ntrust Spend 10–15 minutes in stillness with Jesus each day. Rather than trying to solve a problem or find answers, simply remain with Him and pray: "Lord, what might You be showing me about my heart?" Write down anything you notice, and bring it to God in prayer.

WEEKLY DEVOTION: 27 JULY 2026 | Internalising Jesus’ Love for You can Free, Transform and Empower You Have you ever internalised deeply the truth and reality thatJesus loves you? I mean, truly internalising deeply that you are loved by Jesus—and contemplating the powerful reality of this truth? Every single time you do so, your internalising of Jesus’ love can strengthen, heal, transform and free you to blossom in life as God intended you to.   Can you imagine how deeply the Apostle John must have internalised the truth and reality that he is so loved by Jesus? It led him to describe himself, not only once, but five timesand at such critical times in his life (John 13:23; 19:26; 20:2; 21:7; 21:20)— that he is “the disciple whom Jesus loved”. Internalising this truth so strengthened John that he could live each day by faith and with hope, even amidst unfavourable situations and inhospitable conditions. Hence John testified,“there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” (1 John 4:18)   For King David, as he internalised the truth and reality thatthe Lord loves him, he testified in Psalm 23:1—"The Lord ismy shepherd”. David knew from firsthand experience that there is a world of difference between a sheep that has a shepherd and a sheep that does not.   The sheep without a shepherd has to fend for itself against threats and dangers, even its own inclinations and limitations. On the other hand, the sheep that has a shepherd is loved and provided for by its own shepherd. Its shepherd protects and guides it. The good shepherd will reach out to truly know, relate and care for his sheep, even going all out to look for and rescue his sheep that strayed away.   By internalising God’s love for him, David became strengthened to keep trusting and following God even through his years of harassment and obstruction by the serial persecutor, Saul. David persevered till God delivered David to reach his life calling.   For Jesus’ disciples, internalising the truth that Jesus lovesthem emboldened them to persevere amidst intimidations (Acts 4: 1-13) and continue courageously in their God-given life calling. They, like Apostle John and King David, internalised God’s love deeply in ways which we could call the 3R: Recall (read), Reflect, Respond. David internalisedGod’s love by composing psalms and living by those truths. Paul and Silas internalised God’s love by worshipping and singing to God and keeping faith in Him till He delivered them (Acts 16:25). Mary internalised by proclaiming God’s Promises and committing herself fully to Him (Luke 1: 46-55).   1. May you spend time to Recall (read), Reflect and Respond to the truth and reality that God loves you. Give a try at writing, drawing, praying or singing out your 3Rs. 2. Let Psalm 23 guide you in the 3Rs and in praying to the Lord for strength, healing, transformation, restoration and for blessings in those aspects. 3. If you would take time to do this today, tonight, time and again, everyday —powerful changes can begin to take place in you, for you and even through you. Amen.   Rev. Joseph Goh

COR WEEKLY PRAYER POINTERS | 27 JULY-1 AUG 2026 Pray for the World: Jamaica Jamaica has a wonderful Christian heritage, with a rich history of sending missionaries. It has the most evangelicals and the best-resourced churches in the Caribbean. The Bible Society (Kingston) provides Bibles to most mini-states of the region with a special vision for young people. Praise God that many foreign workers entrusted leadership to national leaders, and the Jamaican Church became its own. Pray that the 15 Bible schools and seminaries, and the Keswick teaching conferences may be strongholds of biblical theology, godly lifestyle, and mission sending for the Caribbean!   Pray For Singapore: Cabinet Changes The Cabinet changes announced on Wednesday (Jul 22) were part of a series of moves by Mr Wong – Singapore’s fourth prime minister – to bring new faces into government since taking office, forming a team that will not just carry the country into the decades ahead but one that he can trust and work with. Pray for the new cabinet especially the junior ministers as they assume office. Ask God for wisdom, compassion and courage to lead our nation into a new era.Pray for protection over each one so they can lead the nation not just effectively but with moral integrity.   Pray for the Church: SAV Joint Chaplaincy Ministries Pray for the joint-chaplaincy ministries in SAV: SA Hall (hostel) and SA House (afterschool care). Pray for Shaun Ang (SA Hall) and Joyce Sum (SA House) and their staff to be filled with compassion for the children, for wisdom and effectiveness in their work. Pray for the chaplaincy work in the hostel (through the Christian residential mentors) and the afterschool care (through the chaplaincy team from COA) to bear fruits. Pray for the students to be inspired and open to the Gospel and Christian witness.   Pray for Chapel of the Resurrection – Responding To God’s irrational and unreasonable Generosity As God continues to pursue us, pray for our hearts to be open and humbled to receive His generous grace. Pray for those of us who are “double-locked” in the belly and the deep sea to encounter God in our difficult circumstances; pray also for those of us who struggle to submit to God’s invitation to share His generosity to come to a place of freedom and surrender and pay it forward.   Pray for the Sick: Pray for COR members who are unwell physically, mentally or emotionally. Briefly share one insight you’ve learnt about each aspect of God’s mercy. [Share] God’s pursuing mercy is set into motion before our repentance. How has this been true in your life? What were some past experiences where you can trace God’s hand leading you towards repentance? [Discuss] ‘We often think of mercy as being spared from pain and misery, but Jonah’s counter perspective suggests that: sometimes, it is precisely God’s punishing mercy that leads us into pain and misery.’ How do you feel about this aspect of God’s mercy? [Reflect and Pray] God’s mercy is prevalent, widespread and far reaching. Just as we have received God’s mercy, let us pray for God’s mercy even to those who have hurt us. Take a moment to reflect and pray for the person that comes to mind.
