After sin entered the world, we became eternally separated from God. Nobody’s work could save or reconcile us with Him. But in loving kindness, our Heavenly Father gave us grace through His Son. The first word that comes to mind when we think of trials is probably not joy. Distress, discouragement, defeat—these are more likely descriptors. 😅 Though the words “trials” and “joy” seem contradictory at first glance, James encourages us to take on a godly, growth-minded perspective. We can have joy because we know that trials aren’t the end but are the means by which we grow in perseverance and maturity. 📈 We can take heart because “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Rom 8:28). God’s love is both unconditional and transformational. He welcomes us just as we are—but He doesn’t leave us the same. Though the process of correction and change can be painful and uncomfortable, let’s focus on our Father’s love for us. He loves us too much to turn a blind eye to the wrong turns and detours we take. Metalsmiths subject precious metals like gold and silver to extreme heat, to refine them. In the same way God allows trials in our life to refine us, because our faith is precious to Him. Through the fire of refinement and purification, our faith emerges stronger, and its quality is revealed. 🔥✨ Remember, our faith is “of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire” (1 Pet 1:7).
