You may have noticed we went into dark mode during the equinox on Sunday. In ancient cultures, the equinox was a threshold a moment of balance between light and dark, a pause before the descent into the longer night. We chose this point, not just seasonally, but civilizationally. Because we are now, unmistakably, in the hinge of history. The signs are everywhere in the culture, the economy, the psyche. The old world is burning, systems are fracturing, and we are headed into a deeper winter. That’s why we blacked out. Not as retreat. But as preparation. A smoke signal is rising. The future will be forged in the flames. For those who sense what's coming It's time to gather around the fire 🔥

On the Assassination of Charlie Kirk and the Collapse of Meaning I couldn’t sleep last night. The image of Charlie Kirk's assassination was etched on my mind. Never before have we lived in a time where you can literally watch a man lose his life to a bullet, replayed on every channel in real time. And I worry deeply about what this says about us. We are so tribalised, so divided, that even tragedy no longer unites us. Instead, it deepens the trenches. Entrenches the belief systems that got us here. Emboldens the very ideologies that give rise to moments like this. Worst of all, some even celebrate. There are videos all over TikTok of people laughing, cheering, rejoicing at Charlie Kirk’s death. Not with genuine critique of his politics. Not with mourning mixed with disagreement. But with joy. With the belief that something righteous has been achieved. I don’t know what to say to that. It breaks me to witness it. We need to call it for what it is, it's the result of not only a polarised society, but a radicalised one. There was a time, not long ago, when tragedy was still recognised as tragedy, even if the person lost was someone you disliked or disagreed with. That was part of the social fabric: a shared recognition of the sacredness of life. Now we have gone further. Beyond indifference. Beyond division. Into celebration. And that tells me we are not just politically divided. We are spiritually wrecked. We are lost. How did we reach such a place? Part of the answer lies in the collapse of meaning. We are no longer listening to one another. We don’t engage with the actual ideas being expressed, only the identities and ideologies we attach to them. Words themselves have lost their grounding and when distinctions collapse, debate dies. And once a person is labelled, they’re no longer engaged with. They’re erased. And here’s where it turns dangerous: when we start treating speech as violence, then physical violence begins to look like self-defence. That is how assassination becomes thinkable, even justifiable, in the minds of the radicalised. This is why we must do three things at once: 1. Have the courage to challenge ideas through words and debate, never through dehumanisation or violence. 2. Refuse the misuse of hate-language in our daily discourse, so that we don’t minimise real hatred when it truly appears. 3. Resist cancel culture and the smearing of people for holding different ideas, so that disagreement remains possible without descending into destruction. Charlie Kirk’s murder is not just about one man. It is about all of us. About whether we can still debate fiercely without dehumanising. About whether we can still grieve tragedy without retreating into tribal war. Because if we lose that, we are no longer debating ideas. We are building monsters.
