• Wilhelm Sasnal Wilhelm Sasnal (b. 1972, Tarnów, Poland) is one of the most influential European contemporary artists of his generation, known for his deliberately restrained, image-based painting and his parallel work in film. Core Practice & Style Sasnal works at the intersection of painting, photography, and cinema. His approach is often described as: Minimal yet loaded: reduced compositions that carry political or historical weight Image translation: he frequently paints from found images, newspapers, personal photos, film stills Fragmented narratives: rather than telling full stories, he isolates moments or impressions Polish and European historical trauma (including WWII and post-communist identity) The Holocaust and representation ethics Everyday banality vs. political violence Mass media imagery and its desensitizing effects He avoids overt didacticism, his paintings often feel quiet but unsettling, forcing interpretation rather than delivering it. @lurkupy
