Solar Eclipse: Time to Pray Not to Play Many Muslims are going out to watch the eclipse today. We forget that these God given signs are warnings and reminders to turn to Allah in prayer rather than turn to the telescope and special glasses. It is not about the harm to the eyes but to the hearts. Kusuf or solar eclipse is a sign that requires a special prayer. This prayer has a strange formula (two rukū in every rak'ah) to indicate the heaviness of the event and show it is not time for picnic or fun. It is time for du'a and earnest prayer that Allah lifts His punishment. These are moments when a believer feels how tiny and insignificant he/she is and how magnificent and mighty Allah is. It is time of reflection not wearing reflection glasses and special spectacles. The prayer is normally done in the masjid (unlike Eid) to remind people of the importance of taking refuge in Allah's ultimate protection. " We were with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) when the sun eclipsed. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stood up dragging his cloak till he entered the Mosque. He led us in a two-rak`at prayer till the sun (eclipse) had cleared. Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of someone's death. So whenever you see these eclipses pray and invoke (Allah) till the eclipse is over." Note: In the Maliki school it is makruh to do it after Asr but a person should engage in dua and istighfar during that time though. Other Madhhabs that allow prayer at that time should do it though.

There needs to be a ban on people who can't write above the level of a middle schooler from creating any type of Islamic content.

  • Incredibly important video. False shaykhs are everywhere and even advanced students can fall into the trap. The measure is always the shariah and that is just one of the reasons it’s important to ground yourself in basic fiqh and see if the shuyūkh making the claim upholds it completely. No one is above the Divine Moral Code. Imam Al-Akhdari said: إذا رأيت رجلا يطير *** أو فوق ماء البحر قد يسير ولم يقف عند حدود الشرع *** فإنه مستدرج وبدعى "If you see a man flying [in the air], Or walking upon the water of the sea, Yet he does not stand within the limits of the Divine Law (Shariah), Know that he is only being lured to his ruin (mustadraj) and is a deviant innovator." Imām Al-Junaid said: “The paths (to Allah) are only open for the creation that follow the traditions of the Prophet ﷺ.” ~ Shaykh Tariq b. Abdul Latif

The Ādāb of Phone Communication (1): The modern means of communication has given human beings great opportunities of reaching out to each other. Yet, it has replaced direct human communication with 'machine-mediated' communication with all its problems and downsides. This issue may be a topic for another post but for now, let's talk about the etiquette and decorum of communication that we have forgotten in our phone communication. A phone message, call, communication is no different from visiting someone at home or tapping into their private space. Thus, requires careful attendance to adab and propriety. Some of these can be summed up in the following: 1. Phone Contact Number: People's phone number is like their home address. You should not give it to others without permission. Equally, you should not note it down in your phone when you hear the owner giving it to another person. You should not feel offended if someone refuses to give their number to you and should not ask directly for it. If you want to discuss something or follow up on a topic, ask kindly: "what is the best way of getting in touch?" and let the person decide the means of communication they are comfortable with. 2. Do not drop in un-announced: Before you call a person whose number has been 'legitimately' given to you, look at the time and see if it is suitable time. Then, send a message introducing yourself after proper salam and ask if they can take a call or they prefer something else or even another time. They may not prefer a call so be careful. 3. Use Full Greeting: The greeting of Islam is "As-Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuh" not, "AAWRB" or "AA" or just "Salam". "AAWRB" sounds like "akhi al-muslim will be right back". "AA" is a battery size or a car breakdown company, not a greeting. As for just "Salam" it is non-conducive of the greeting that we were taught; it can even mean, 'I do not want to engage'. So, do not be stingy and write full greeting. 4. Do Not Be Ambiguous: After the full greeting, introduce yourself and the reason for the call and ask about the preferred way the recipient wants to take this further. Do not greet and wait like a wolf anticipating the recipient to appear (by reply) and then prey on their time and life. Do not give your message in instalments. A proper introduction is a must. Mentioning the reason gives the person a space to decide whether it is urgent or not, whether they can help or not, whether it is important for them or not. Remember, what is important for you is not necessarily important for others. So, be polite and civilised. 5. Do Not Expect an Immediate Reply: A reply is based on the recipient's availability and their evaluation of your communication. It does not have to be right away. Definitely you deserve a reply if you are asking about something serious, not when you are relating "a dream" or telling "a joke" or forwarding some silly stuff [for this last one, you deserve a block]. So, be patient. Remember the words of the Prophet ﷺ: You tell him to ask politely and tell me to pay properly. Be patient, give a space, you can remind the recipient after a while but if your message is acknowledged, wait and have patience. This is part of the learning process. Stay Blessed [To Be Continued InshAllah]

    Eid Mubarak!

  • 20 мар.1 9343из TheMalikiMadhab

Many Malikis live in the west and the question arises… What does a Maliki do praying behind a Hanafi during Eid prayer? This video shows just that with Mostakim Habib Al-Maliki. Full video on the YouTube channel: The Scholar and The Student. We asked our Shaykh Al-Faqih Abdullah BinTahir about following the Hanafis on Eid. He said if you also follow the Hanafis in what they are doing on Eid then is also correct because the goal is to not have your own salah by yourself for Eid.
