Been looking for new podcasts to listen to. Sometimes I'd try to listen to some of the Singapore media run podcasts (like Deep Dive) and others. Some are okay, but I find that they're usually still very superficial. First-order thinking kind of superficial, or they reject suggestions with superficial reasons without diving further in. I'm sure maybe some of it is substantiated by studies and data but I would like to hear and see some of that too. I didn't bother digging into which are considered state-sponsored media or whether there might be conflicts of interest in certain topics but I'd wish there would be a higher level of discussion in topics. Maybe that's a reflection of why the healthcare system is like this too.
🎉 Year 2 Week 37 + 38 🎉 💬 Healthcare Thoughts 💬 A little busy the past week so my apologies for missing a week of update. National Day Week! I didn't really watch much of the parade. Snippets here and there, enough to see many 67 memes being emoted during the parade. No strong feelings about it. Never been one to feel ultra-patriotic of Singapore, but generally satisfied with what we have. Though, being in healthcare, and also I'm not sure if it's just getting older, there definitely has been a sense of growing dissatisfaction with how certain things are being done. Similar to work I guess. Part of me feels like, I want to do more. Part of me feels like, I want to do more to improve my own life first, then think about what I can do to give back to others in my spare capacity. Right now, I don't even have enough capacity for myself. Though, one thing I would really like to do is to figure out how to integrate AI into my workflow. The main way that my workplace has been thinking about is to use AI to answer generic clinical or maybe basic care questions. But the issues I have seen so far is we are not tech literate enough to train models well, we don't really know how to use AI very well and we are cramming AI down every single area we can find. Been wanting to spend time to figure out my caregiver app a bit more, though life is just getting in the way. Maybe I need t o dedicate like a full day of sitting down to coding it. 📕 Recent Posts / Resources 📕 [Instagram] What to do about your bonus? 🎉 Year 2 Week 36 🎉 💬 Healthcare Thoughts 💬 Going to take a break from all the pay stuff for now. Thank you all for sharing. It was fun collating and charting it into a scatter plot. I'll continue to collate the data and share it as well as my observations and trends. I must say, there is definitely a self-selection bias where higher income folk will tend to participate in these self-reporting surveys more, so don't feel too bad if you find your income is nowhere near as high. Mine's also on the middle-ish end of the spectrum baed off the chart. Had some thought about the whole retention thing. Wondering if people really would want to stay in public or not if we had a better work environment. Would they stay because of the better work environment? Or because public is something they'd rather work in? Some thoughts as well about how many of my followers appear to be quite high achieving, and many share hesitancy to share projects and ideas with their departments for fear of losing credit or creative control over projects. Feel like this is an entirely different problem, but also still the same cultural issue problem. 📕 Recent Posts / Resources 📕 [Instagram] What to do about your bonus? 🎉 Year 2 Week 35 🎉 💬 Healthcare Thoughts 💬 Managed to consolidate the payslips! They are still coming in so please forgive me if I miss a couple as I am running this page solely on my spare time :') Click here to have a look (or just refer to pinned messages) Otherwise, good response so far from my most recent post on retention. Glad many people resonate, and even some people feel a sense of relief that their struggles were not solely their own. 📕 Recent Posts / Resources 📕 [Instagram] Are we losing too many Healthcare Workers 🤑 Financial Stuff 🤑 In the middle of polishing up my excel tracker for publishing. 🎉 Year 2 Week 34 🎉 💬 Healthcare Thoughts 💬 Thinking about the payslip consolidation. Will get to it this week, but just to note that I haven't really personally verified any of them. A lot of the payslips on the subreddit appear to be edited or ran through with AI so take any significant outliers with a pinch of salt. But at the same time, be wary of brushing off anything you don't believe as possible as AI unless you're really certain. 📕 Recent Posts / Resources 📕 [Instagram] Q2 2026 🤑 Financial Stuff 🤑 In the middle of polishing up my excel tracker for publishing. 🎉 Year 2 Week 32 & 33 🎉 💬 Healthcare Thoughts 💬 Apologies for missing last week. Been hectic. Had a lot of really good conversations with many people on my page last few weeks (thank you for tolerating my absurdly slow replies). Lots of sharing about work, alternatives, how everyone wants to live their lives. Timely with the recent physiotherapist article on ST on more physiotherapists going to private. I remember someone asking me the upside and downside for public VS private for PT, and honestly I couldn't really find a very good justification not to go private. The cons were generally manageable and the pros were definitely much greater. Also, saw someone on TikTok complaining about A&E wait times again.
