Daniel Haqiqatjou discusses with Hassan al-Qadri about Shia beliefs, what the leading authorities of Shia have to say about Sunnism, his perspective on the Iran war, the need for Sunni-Shia alliance, and more. Daniel also asks Hassan to clarify Shia beliefs on the preservation of the Quran, cursing the Sahaba, self-flagellation, taqiyya, etc. https://youtu.be/Z2fWQeki0hw?si=aY0NoCxJzny6wG2a
This lecture addresses the question of why Twelver Shiʿa scholarship does not accept Sunni ḥadīth literature as authoritative and explains the importance of this issue within Islamic epistemology. It outlines four central reasons for Shiʿa distrust of Sunni ḥadīth: the Sunni doctrine of the universal uprightness of the Companions and the absence of systematic scrutiny of their reliability; the historical alignment of Sunni religious tradition with ruling governments and the resulting incentive to transmit reports that legitimise political authority; the censorship or omission of narrations that criticise certain Companions; and the alteration of ḥadīth wording in order to protect the moral standing of the Companions. Through these points, the lecture highlights the methodological, historical, and theological foundations underlying the Shiʿa rejection of Sunni ḥadīth transmission. For those interested in deeper study of Islamic history and the formation of its intellectual traditions, we highly recommend the telegram channel “Shiitic Studies” by Shaykh Ammaar Muslim: 🔗 https://t.me/shiiticstudies The channel presents concise yet insightful writings on a range of subjects, including the early development of Islamic sects, the canonisation of Shīʿī and Sunnī law, brief biographical notes on prominent ḥadīth transmitters, discussions on Rijāl, and studies of the Qurʾānic readings. It is an excellent resource for those seeking a more grounded understanding of the historical, textual, and methodological foundations of Islamic scholarship.

• Establishing the authenticity of the hadith of Ghadīr and refuting its deniers. • What is the proof that the word mawlā carries in its meaning the sense of “most deserving” (al-awlā)? • Once the possibility is established, what is the proof that this meaning is specifically intended in the hadith of Ghadīr? • Once specified, what is the proof that the meaning of “al-awlā” indicates with regards to the Imamate? With this precise division, he proceeded to answer each question separately, until he established his conclusion—all praise is due to Allāh. • The Second: Dhikr al-asbāb al-ṣāddah ʿan maʿrifat al-ṣawāb This is a delightful treatise whose subject is to explain the causes that prevent a person from recognizing truth, and that cast him into intellectual errors and delusions. In our contemporary expression, it could be called a treatise on “logical fallacies and cognitive biases.” He divided it into two sections: • The obstructive causes shared by both the imitator and the reasoner. • The obstructive causes specific to the reasoner. For each section, he described the errors and illusions into which a person may fall, in a smooth and elegant style. 🔻 The Third Aspect: Creativity in the Craft of Expressions and Rhythmic Eloquence This is a literary aspect of his distinction—unsurprising once we learn that his teacher was al-Sharīf al-Murtaḍā, the accomplished litterateur, poet, and linguist, author of al-Amālī, a dīwān, and possessed of a refined literary taste. This feature permeates the writings and treatises of al-Karājikī. Anyone accustomed to his style will perceive it: clear, precise expressions, elegantly woven with rhythmic cadences and refined sajʿ befitting the intellectual demand. ✍️🏼 al-Nāqid al-Imāmī
Three Aspects of Intellectual Distinction in al-Karājikī (449 AH) Abū al-Fatḥ Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. ʿUthmān al-Karājikī (449 AH) was among the eminent figures of Imāmī theologians, and among the finest students of the two great Shaykhs: Shaykh al-Mufīd (413 AH) and al-Sharīf al-Murtaḍā (436 AH). A treasury of his scholarly heritage has reached us in the fields of kalām, hadith, and polemical issues. I will mention three aspects of his remarkable personality and his brilliant pen which appeared to me through my personal engagement with the legacy of this distinguished scholar. 🔻 The First Aspect: Creativity in Conveying Intellectual Subject-Matter It is said: Some people are born teachers! This is because they possess a distinctive method in delivering ideas to their audience, employing unique and delightful styles that are rarely found among ordinary teachers. We may illustrate this quality in Abū al-Fatḥ through two of his works: • The first book: al-Ibānah ʿan al-mumāthalah bayna ṭarīqay al-nubuwwah wa-al-imāmah This is a small treatise in size (118 pages), but profound in content and style. In it, al-Karājikī sought to demonstrate the similarity between the necessity of the Prophet and the necessity of the Imam alike. He structured the book as a dialogue between three characters: a. A Jew: An objector to the Prophet’s Prophethood in the dialogue. b. A Muʿtazilī, who attempts to answer the Jew’s objections to the Prophethood of Muḥammad. c. An Imāmī, who reveals that the very arguments used by the Muʿtazilī to establish Prophethood inevitably entail the necessity of the Imamate, and without acknowledging Imamate, the proofs for Prophethood collapse! The result was a delightful and beneficial disputation, filled with insights and gems. Marginal note: This method employed by al-Karājikī in binding opponents is one of the finest intellectual approaches in debate: To show that the very proof employed by an adversary necessarily entails another conclusion of which he is heedless and refuses to acknowledge. Drawing arguments to their logical implications often exposes the strength or weakness of a proof. al-Ibānah itself is an excellent model of this approach. • The second book: al-Taʿajjub min aghlāṭ al-ʿāmmah fī masʾalat al-imāmah The idea of this book—with its witty title—resembles that of the previous one. Al-Karājikī sought to show the contradictions of the opponents of the Imāmiyyah concerning the Imamate, and their inconsistency in their principles. He highlights how they affirm and uphold a matter in one instance, but undermine it in another; or reject something in one case, while accepting what is essentially its counterpart in another. [see: https://t.me/Na8ed_imami/444] This reveals the sharpness of the scholar, who connects seemingly distant ideas adhered to by a school or individual, in order to demonstrate that their intellectual framework lacks stability and coherence, and suffers from internal defects that cannot be repaired. Indeed, one of the signs of the people of falsehood is their lack of consistency in their principles—embracing a matter in one context and exalting it, then disdaining and discarding it for the cheapest price when circumstances narrow upon them. 🔻 The Second Aspect: Creativity in Structuring Issues Many scholarly subjects are difficult to grasp without a methodical, organized framework in which the premises are arranged in order, such that the subsequent follows necessarily from the preceding. The skill of the creative mind lies in extracting the premises necessary to establish the desired conclusion. For every issue one asks: What are the premises that, if proven, establish this claim? Upon what foundations does this claim rest? What premises eliminate the invalid possibilities that oppose it? And so forth. I will illustrate this point with two of al-Karājikī’s treatises: • The First: Dalīl al-naṣṣ bi-khabar al-Ghadīr This is a treatise in which he sought to prove the indication of the Hadith of Ghadīr through dividing the subject into four premises:

🔹️ From the Biography of the Scholars 🔹️ Ibn Ḥajar said in al-Lisān: "al-Ḥasan b. Yūsuf b. al-Muṭahhar al-Ḥillī, the scholar of the Shīʿa and their compiler, was a wonder in intelligence. He wrote a commentary on Ibn al-Ḥājib’s Mukhtaṣar—a fine commentary, easy to follow, utmost in clarity—and his works became renowned in his own lifetime. He is the one whom Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyyah refuted in his well-known book al-Radd ʿalā al-Rāfiḍī. And Ibn al-Muṭahhar was well-known in reputation and had good character. When some parts of Ibn Taymiyyah’s book reached him, he said: ‘If he understood what I say, I would have responded to him.’” I say: If an insightful reader were to read Minhāj al-Sunnah of Ibn Taymiyya, he would know that what al-ʿAllāmah Ibn al-Muṭahhar mentioned in this regard is sufficient as a reply to his entire book. And perhaps I will mention some evidence of this soon, if Allāh wills. 🔹️ Fawāʾid al-Bāḥith 🔹️
