The event was organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Ottawa to promote diaspora investment among other agendas however after strong opposition from community members the venue cancelled the original event. Following a last minute change, community members attended the event and confronted regime officials over complicity in the regime’s war on Amhara people in Ethiopia.

Supporters are advised that the statement containing AAA's letterhead dated July 23, 2026 (shown below) is not authentic and was not authored by AAA. The statement appears to have originated from the page of a prominent Oromo Prosperity Party regime agent. ‘The Ethiopian government failed to attend the hearing to advocate for itself, leaving the field open for the Amhara Association of America (AAA) to lobby against re-engaging in trade with Addis Ababa.
