  • Al-Rabī‘ ibn Khuthaym (رحمه الله) said: “Whenever you speak, remember that Allāh hears you. When you intend something, remember His knowledge of you. When you look, remember His seeing of you. When you reflect, remember His awareness of you. For indeed, He, the Most High, says: {Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the heart, all of these will be questioned about}.” Ṣifat al-Ṣafwah by Ibn al-Jawzī (2/39) Jāmi‘ al-‘Ulūm wa al-Ḥikam (1/290)

  • Evening adhkār are your protection against Shayṭān, so do not neglect them. Al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ said regarding the statement of Allah: ﴿وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ﴾ “And do not kill yourselves.” (Qur’an 4:29) He said: لا تغفلوها عن ذكر الله؛ فإنّ من أغفلها عن ذكر الله فقد قتلها. “Do not neglect your souls from the remembrance of Allah, for whoever neglects his soul from the remembrance of Allah has indeed killed it.” Source: Al-Mujālasah wa Jawāhir al-ʿIlm A soul lives through the remembrance of Allah just as the body lives through food and drink. The more a person remembers Allah, the more alive, tranquil, and protected his heart becomes. Neglecting dhikr causes the heart to weaken, harden, and become vulnerable to Shayṭān.

  • Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said: “Love of the Messenger ﷺ leads you to follow him outwardly and inwardly, because a lover imitates the one he loves—even in worldly matters. A person, the more he loves someone, strives to be like him in his qualities. So if you truly love the Prophet ﷺ, this love will lead you to follow him—may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him.” 📚Sharḥ Ḥilyat Ṭālib al-ʿIlm

  • In the Name of Allah, all praise is due to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Prophet ﷺ. I have been asked by many about the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ: “Fasting is the day you all fast, Eid is the day you all break your fast, and Eid al-Adha is the day you all sacrifice,” so here is a clarification of its meaning. The scholars explain that this hadith is about linking these acts of worship to the جماعة (the Muslim community). In other words, fasting and Eid are not things a person does on his own based on his personal decision, but rather they are connected to the practice of the Muslims as a group. The purpose of the hadith is to prevent اختلاف (division and disagreement), and to make sure these acts are done together, not separately. However, this hadith is not explaining how Ramadan and Eid are determined. That has already been clearly explained by the Prophet ﷺ in other narrations, where he said: “Fast when you see it, and break your fast when you see it, and if it is hidden from you, then complete thirty days.” This shows that the beginning and ending of Ramadan are based on moon sighting, or completing thirty days. This is the foundation (أصل), and it does not change. The mistake that some people make is using the hadith “fasting is the day you all fast” to say that we should just follow whatever date people announce, even if it is not based on a proper Islamic method. This is not correct, because the hadith does not cancel or replace the clear instructions about sighting the moon. Rather, it assumes that the community is already following a valid اجتهاد (scholarly reasoning), such as local or global sighting, which are both known positions among the scholars. So the correct understanding is that the method remains the same — moon sighting or completing thirty days — and at the same time, a person should not separate himself from the جماعة (Muslim community) in how these acts are carried out. The hadith is about unity in practice, not about changing the method that the Prophet ﷺ taught. In conclusion, fasting and Eid are established through moon sighting, and this is the basis that must be followed. The hadith emphasizes that these acts should be done with the community to avoid division, but it is not a proof for abandoning the Sunnah of sighting or following dates that have no valid basis. True unity in Islam is unity upon the truth, not unity at the expense of it. And Allah knows best. Abdulkadir Abdullahi

  • Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rājiʿūn. My beloved grandmother Rahmo, has returned to her Lord. Our hearts are heavy, but we will not say except that which is pleasing to Allah. We ask Allah to have mercy on her, forgive her, expand her grave, and grant her Jannatul Firdaws. Please keep her in your duʿā’.

  • Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله said: “Any person who comes with evidence, then it is obligatory upon us to follow the evidence. And if there is no evidence, it is not permissible to obligate the servants of Allah with that which Allah has not obligated them with. For the scholars are accountable before Allah and entrusted with the Sharīʿah.” Ash-Sharḥ al-Mumtiʿ
