While both regimens demonstrated comparable efficacy, patients receiving the doravirine-based regimen experienced significantly less treatment-associated weight gain, an important consideration given growing concerns about weight gain with some modern ART regimens. Clinical takeaway: Doravirine/lamivudine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate is an effective first-line ART option that offers similar viral suppression to a dolutegravir-based regimen while being associated with less weight gain. 🗞️ Medical Articles Source: Clinical Breast Cancer Topic: Metformin may improve chemotherapy response in advanced breast cancer A systematic review and meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled trials involving 582 patients found that adding metformin to chemotherapy improved treatment response in patients with locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. Compared with chemotherapy alone, metformin increased the likelihood of an overall pathological response by about 30% and reduced the risk of having no response to treatment by 56%. Patients receiving metformin were also 52% more likely to undergo breast-conserving surgery, while overall adverse events were similar between groups. Although severe diarrhea occurred more frequently with metformin, the overall safety profile remained acceptable. Clinical takeaway: Metformin is an inexpensive and well-tolerated drug that may enhance chemotherapy response in advanced breast cancer. However, larger high-quality trials are needed before it can be recommended as standard oncologic therapy. The product is taken every 12 hours and is approved for adults and children 12 years and older. The combination is indicated for headache, backache, muscle aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and other minor aches and pains.
