🇬🇧 WHY DO BRITISH SINKS HAVE SEPARATE HOT AND COLD TAPS? 🤔 ... it's not because we're mental 🤪 Traditionally, cold drinking water came directly from the mains (an external pipe linked to our house like in Russia), while hot water was often supplied from a storage tank in the loft (of our house) and heated in a cylinder (or boiler in an airing cupboard: every British house has one). Because stored water could become contaminated, British plumbing systems were designed to prevent it flowing back into the clean mains supply. Separate taps kept the two systems safely apart.🍔 The ideas was to mix hot and cold water in the sink😍 Not to cup your hands and switch between burning and artic water and then to splash your face (as I did in my younger days🙈) Do UK homes still have two taps? Some do because older structures are harder to renovate. But many modern households updated the plumbing system and use one tap... like the rest of the civilized world 🥳 😌 FIVE bonus UK House facts: 👉🏻 Many households carpet the bathroom floor 👉🏻 Due to electrical safety rules, many UK bathrooms have pull-cords for the light switch, not the typical switch you press on the wall 👉🏻 Our plugs have three pins and a button to press. (tip: if you go to the UK and forget the plug adapter, you don't need one... push your two-pinned plug in the bottom two holes (they're on the surface), get a pencil and push it into the top hole which forces down a latch and that opens the bottom two for you. And voila!... I suggested a pencil and not a knife or fork so that you don't end up as a pile of ashes) 👉🏻 Never take your shoes off until told to. Very impolite 👉🏻 A lot of Russian flats store crap on their balconies or in антресоль. Our equivalent is to store our English crap in a cupboard under the stairs 💪

  • 😰Serious prawn crackers🍤 I was shopping in Globus today. Decided to treat myself to some prawn crackers😃 I checked out the back of the packet while I was munching on these oriental delicacies and noticed the warning ⚠️ Got me thinking: these are some dangerous prawn crackers but thank god I've got two kids so any reproductive issues upon consumption ought not to bother me so much. The cancer part is rather disconcerting, though. 🤔 I might seem pedantic somewhat, but I don't think saying that your product might end up killing someone is the best marketing strategy. Saying: 👉🏼 Join ouy skydiving school where 15% of students manage to graduate... 👉🏼 This carrot cake contains e-numbers, refined sugar and radioactive dust... 👉🏼 Buy our new prefabricated house where only 40% of all those sold collapsed on their occupants... ... definitely won't lead to repeat custom😄

Having a bit of fun with AI. 🤖 Thomas The Tank Engine now has the expression "What the f*** are you looking at?" And as for the Ghostbusters, it's a game of "Spot the odd one out!!" 😂

🇬🇧🏆 20 YEARS IN RUSSIA CELEBRATION WEBINAR🏆🇷🇺 Hello, my dear friends! On the 18th + 19th August I will be running my awesome online teacher webinar in celebration of my 20 YEARS IN RUSSIA! Yes, it was the 18th August 2006 when I first set foot here! Today I interviewed my 81st student for my September courses (even though I'm not taking anywhere near that many). From September my priority will be my school-age students and new CAE groups, so this will almost certainly be my last teacher training event for the foreseeable future. That's exactly why I'm putting absolutely everything into these two days. 🤝 ✅ What's on the menu: 👉 18th 09.30 we will be working on teacher psychology because believe me, it's needed. 👉 18th 13.00 we will be working on organizational skills and lesson structures. 👉 19th 09.30 we will be working on language skills and how to get the most out of reading, writing, listening and speaking (I made a nice checklist for this). 👉 19th 13.00 we will be working on how to become a premium teacher plus how when to use AI, and when not to. 💥 You will get a 130 PAGE HANDBOOK written by me that contains all the theory, solutions and suggestions that you will not find anywhere else. 💥 You will get dozens of checklists to help you self-assess. Even one for your personality would you believe! 💥 I will mainly be lecturing by using classroom scenarios, then breaking them down and working with the audience on building the required skills. ❗️Every topic that will be raised is not "What's fun in 2026 for teachers?" but issues, success stories, theory, tips and tricks, real workable solutions that have been tried, tested, failed, improved, certified over not just my 25 years, but collected data from thousands of others. The 18th & 19th is my last push, to help separate average teachers from elite ones. 💥 AI is improving, the world is changing... I know I'll be fine. Will you? 📅 18–19 August 🕤 09:30–11:30 🍽 Lunch Break 🕐 13:00–15:00 💻 Online (Zoom) 🎥 Permanent access to recordings 📖 130-page handbook ✅ Practical checklists and teaching tools 📜 Certificate of participation 💰 5900 Rubles 🔔 Registration is open To reserve your place, please contact Katya: https://vk.ru/mikhaylina9113 or send us a message via the community: https://vk.ru/newsonsuniversity I hope to see many of you in August. ❤️

😡THIS SO ANNOYS ME😡 I often see English posts on social media like: 👉🏼 Famous is A1, Renowned is B2 👉🏼 Don't say Throw Away, say Dispose of 👉🏼 Natives never say Interesting, they say Captivating. Paul says: Total Bollocks (suitable for A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 C2) ✨

🇬🇧 MY 150 PAGE HANDBOOK 😭 Hello guys! On the 18th and 19th August I'm doing one last push for teachers: my webinar where I share the most important ingredients to make teaching that bit easier 👍 And it's my way to celebrate my huge milestone: 20 years in Russia 🇷🇺 I'll be lecturing but I've put together a handbook: 150 pages plus loads of useful printable checklists; years of info collected and crammed into this handbook that do help teachers lead somewhat of an easier life😘 All participants get a free copy of my handbook. Plus, you'll get to read and use it before it's published. Which it will be 😭 Now I'm editing the thing. Good luck to my back and shoulders while being stuck at my desk all day😄

🇬🇧 RELATIVELY POINTLESS VOCAB 🇬🇧 Hi, my talented friends. There is a word regularly used in slang: ✅ STOKED = to be really excited/enthusiastic about something 👉🏼 Grazelda, my long distance relationship, is finally coming to Moscow to visit. I'm so stoked!... even though she's an AI creation - beggars can't be choosers. 👉🏼 Wow, I cooked a classic Sunday Roast for my guests without giving them diarrhea! I'm so stoked you can't imagine! Next stop, Masterchef! ✍️ I think this word comes from the verb TO STOKE which means to add fuel to a fire to make it burn more, usually on old ships and steam trains. In the picture above you can see how the engineer stokes the boiler to keep the train chugging along. 🤑 A pointless bonus: We know what it means when we describe someone as TENDER: being soft or gentle. Or a part of your body can feel TENDER: pain or discomfort when touched. There's even a specific collocation: to TENDER one's resignation which is a formal way to say you quit. But... if you look at the picture above, do you see that part of the steam train where the piles of coal are stored? That's also called the TENDER. 🤔 I'm sure many of you now feel that your life has more meaning knowing this фигня above 😭

🇬🇧 IN UK ENGLISH PLEASE STOP SAYING: THANKS A BUNCH ☹️ It means: you've been let down, or someone's been unhelpful. So, it's sarcastic. In the 🇺🇸 it's also used sarcastically but sincerely as well... depending on the context. So in all honesty, best avoid it and use something else. If I save you from a charging grizzly bear 🐻, and you express your gratitude by saying "Thanks a bunch!" I'd assume my help was unwanted, I'd let you go, and allow the bear to chase you down where it would feed an your still-twitching corpse 😄

🇬🇧🏡 THIS IS WHAT A TYPICAL MIDDLE-CLASS UK HOME LOOKS LIKE 🏠🇬🇧 Hello, guys! I stumbled upon this video and thought you might like to know what a typical middle-class house looks like. I grew up in something very similar but bigger, as well as my mates back in the day. Everything about it is soooo typical 😄 https://youtu.be/OXkJP_jQdkY?si=2thPzTTl0Oyx7mJN

🇬🇧 Such a weird name 🇬🇧 Hello, my talented gorgeous friends. 😍 This thingy where you store bread has a weird name in English: 👉🏼 A bread bin Yep, a bin... which is where we throw rubbish. But not a bread bin. ✍️ My dear friends, if you thought you were about to have a depressing weekend, not anymore... now that you know what a bread bin is 😭 ... and I'm slowly beginning to realise why I have no friends 😄

🇬🇧 Good morning dear English speakers ✨ I'm wishing you a great Thursday wherever you are in the world. 😍 It's a great day to be alive: England crashed out of the football World Cup (as expected), it's pissing down with rain outside, I burnt my sausages for breakfast, and to top it off my cat who had kittens recently is going to have kittens again = sweetness but with more poo. 😀 Have fun my friends, speaking club awaits 😎
