CENTCOM Commander Completes 10-Day Trip to the Middle East TAMPA, Fla. — The commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) completed a 10-day trip to the Middle East on Aug. 15 that included visits to six countries and to a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier operating in the Arabian Sea. Adm. Brad Cooper met with senior civilian and military leaders in Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates and spent time with deployed U.S. service members. More than 50,000 American service members are operating across the Middle East supporting various missions. While ashore, Cooper recognized exceptional performers, reenlisted troops, and presided over the leadership transition for Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR). Maj. Gen. Kevin Lambert turned over command of CJTF-OIR to Rear Adm. Liam Hulin, Aug. 11, during a ceremony at the task force's headquarters in Jordan. While at sea, Cooper met with Sailors and Marines aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) for the second time this year. He previously visited the aircraft carrier in February with U.S. Special Envoy for Peace Missions Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. During Cooper's latest trip, he addressed the entire Lincoln team and thanked them for their tremendous dedication and courage. He also met with junior service members and awarded deserving individuals. "The Lincoln Carrier Strike Group is a strong team of high-achieving Americans standing tall with immense, justified pride in everything they accomplished," said Cooper. "History will record this deployment as one of the most operationally intense and consequential of the modern era." Based in San Diego, Abraham Lincoln departed for deployment in November and arrived in the Middle East in January. The strike group has successfully conducted thousands of combat flights in support of Operation Epic Fury, regional security missions, and the ongoing U.S. naval blockade against Iran. The aircraft are at an altitude of around 6 km, and their flight path intersects corridors designated for civil aviation. Turkish truck drivers are processing paperwork at the border when explosions rip through the parking area. According to their own accounts, drones struck two Iranian trucks first. Both vehicles were destroyed almost instantly. As the drivers scrambled to flee, a Belarusian truck travelling in front of them was hit as well. One driver says this was already the third or fourth vehicle struck that morning. Another recalls the attack beginning around 7 a.m., while many drivers were still asleep in their cabs. Turkish media report deaths and injuries among Iranian and Belarusian citizens. Two Belarusian servicemen are said to be among the wounded. And yet — silence. Minsk has said nothing. Tehran has said nothing. Kyiv has said nothing. No government has confirmed or denied what happened, even as footage of a burning truck and a shredded cab circulates online. This is not the first strike on this stretch of border. A Belarusian bus was hit here in July. In June a bus carrying Belarusian children was struck nearby. More than 1,300 Strava users have shared workout data from U.S. military installations across the Middle East, exposing information that likely helped Iran to track and target American personnel, Sky News reports. The publicly available data revealed exact routes, timings, daily routines, troop movements, and deployment patterns, including activity at bases not identified on public maps. Many personnel also used their real names, despite the Pentagon restricting geolocation features for deployed personnel after similar security concerns emerged in 2018. The data reveals several notable patterns that appeared to correspond with subsequent Iranian attacks. Before the war, Strava activity suggested U.S. personnel were withdrawing from certain locations, which helped improve Iran's overview. In Bahrain, a Navy contractor stopped recording runs at the evacuated naval base before appearing at the Crowne Plaza hotel, which Iran struck six days later, wounding two Pentagon employees. At Jordan’s Muwaffaq Al Salti Air Base, post-ceasefire activity showed 76% of recorded workouts beginning or ending near barracks on the eastern side of the base.
