  • 💬 Rosatom State Corporation: 🚢 On August 14, Rosatom’s 7th International Scientific and Educational Expedition – the Icebreaker of Knowledge – has successfully returned to Murmansk. Over ten days, 68 talented school and college students from all federal districts of Russia and 22 countries travelled aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy (50 years of #Victory) along the Murmansk – North Pole – Franz Josef Land – Murmansk route. ☝️ The voyage also made history as the 200th expedition by a surface vessel to the North Pole. A real aerospace laboratory became part of the Icebreaker of Knowledge educational programme. During the expedition, the participants worked with scientists to prepare and conduct two unique experiments: launching a radiosonde at the North Pole to help provide communications in remote areas of the Arctic and along Northern Sea Route corridors, and testing the world’s first recoverable stratospheric platform for Arctic monitoring.

  • 🎙 President of Russia – Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin took part in the final stage of the Russian Pacific Fleet drills (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, August 12, 2026) 💬 Vladimir Putin: Unfortunately, the conflict potential in the Asia-Pacific region is growing. NATO is pushing into the region, new military-political blocs are being formed, and new weapons systems that pose threats to our country are being deployed or planned for deployment here. Tensions are also being stoked in the neighbouring Arctic region, including over the use of the Northern Sea Route. Russia has always advocated cooperation in the Arctic and once again confirms its readiness to work together and make use of the advantages offered by the Northern Sea Route – naturally, within the framework of existing international maritime law. Those countries that want to work with us and show an interest in this are, first and foremost, our friends – China, India and other states. *** The situation in the Asia-Pacific region is complicated, and there are plenty of problems. We would also like to understand the position of Japan, our neighbour – a country that, under the pretext of the events in Ukraine and without looking into the causes of the conflict, imposed sanctions on Russia that were in no way provoked by us. ☝️ We do not threaten Japan. We have absolutely no claims against it. On the contrary, it is Japan that has territorial claims against our country – I am referring to the issue of the Kuril Islands. However, the realities that emerged as a result of World War II are enshrined in international documents. Even so, Russia was prepared to seek a solution with a view to concluding a peace treaty with Japan. Back in the mid-1950s, the Soviet Union signed a declaration with Japan that opened the way towards a peace treaty. Modern Russia accommodated the request of the Japanese Government and resumed – I repeat, at the request of the Japanese side – dialogue on ways to conclude a peace treaty. At that time, we developed constructive relations with a number of Japanese leaders, including the late former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, whose life was tragically cut short and who did a great deal to bring Japan and Russia closer together and narrow the differences between our positions. Russia stands ready – and I want to emphasise this – to cooperate with all its neighbours, including Japan and other countries in the region. *** We see that the authorities of certain countries, in violation of international maritime law, are attempting to restrict the peaceful passage of vessels operated by our companies. More recently, they have even contemplated seizing our vessels and selling off property stolen from us. ❗️ This is outright piracy and plunder. If such plans begin to be implemented in practice, we will be forced to respond in kind. And not necessarily in the waters where raids on our ships and vessels are being planned, but wherever we ourselves deem it necessary and appropriate – anywhere, including within the Pacific Fleet’s area of responsibility. Russia is strengthening its security both as a whole and in individual regions. At the same time, we are always ready to seek mutually acceptable compromises with all our neighbours and partners. And we are prepared to do so on the basis of due regard for each other’s interests. Read in full

☢️ Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant (#ZNPP): On August 11, three people were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack in Energodar’s industrial area. Two of them are employees of the electrical grid workshop at the Zaporozhskaya NPP (part of Rosatom). The employees were en route to restore power to facilities in the industrial area damaged in previous AFU attacks. ZNPP electrical grid personnel work every day to restore power to Energodar and industrial facilities following Ukrainian strikes. Often working under the threat of renewed attacks, they make every effort to promptly restore electricity to damaged areas. It was these very people – on their way to restore power supplies – who were targeted. All those injured were taken to Medical Unit No. 145, where they are receiving all necessary medical care. Unfortunately, one of them is in serious condition. ❗️ The AFU deliberately put Zaporozhskaya NPP personnel at risk as they carry out work vital to the city. They repair damaged infrastructure and maintain power supplies to social and industrial facilities – doing so every day despite the constant threat of attack. The plant’s personnel continue to perform their professional duties, ensuring the safety and uninterrupted functioning of Energodar.

🎙 Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin's interview with TASS News Agency (August 11, 2026) Key points: • Zelensky has no interest in peace. For him and his clique, prolonging the conflict is the only way to stay in power and evade responsibility for the crimes they have committed. • We are not closing the door to negotiations. At the same time, we are left with no choice but to continue pursuing, by military means, the objectives of demilitarising and denazifying Ukraine and eliminating the threats emanating from its territory. • Our principles and approaches to a lasting and just settlement remain unchanged. They were set out by President Vladimir Putin in his address at the Russian Foreign Ministry on June 14, 2024. • There have been no official contacts with Germany on the Ukraine settlement, nor are any likely given the German political leadership’s extremely aggressive anti-Russian rhetoric and actions. Informal meetings between representatives of Russian and German public organisations, however, have taken place and continue. • Any attempt to destabilise the situation or stage provocations against Belarus, our ally, will be regarded as an attack on the Union State as a whole. We hope our Western partners have enough common sense to restrain the Zelensky regime from provocations that could have irreparable consequences for the European continent. • The Moldovan leadership and the Kiev regime must understand that any armed aggression against Transnistria, home to more than 220,000 Russian citizens, would have catastrophic consequences for the aggressors themselves. • The referendum in Armenia is intended to establish what the country’s people actually think about the EU and the EAEU. The issue is not an abstract one – whether they would like to join the EU – but a very practical one: are they prepared to give up EAEU membership for the far from certain prospect of joining the EU in the future? • We thank the leadership of Kazakhstan for its attention to the situation around Ukraine. However, as President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, there can be no “freeze” without addressing the root causes of the crisis. • We remain open to further expanding pragmatic ties with Tbilisi. It is clear that Georgia’s successful development lies not in confrontation, but in cooperation with Russia. Read in full

🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s statement on the death of foreign nationals in the terrorist attack by Ukrainian militants on Nizhnekamsk (August 10, 2026) 💬 The terrorist attack by the Kiev regime against civilian sites in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, on August 10 resulted in at least 13 fatalities, most of them foreign nationals. According to preliminary reports, the victims included eight citizens of Uzbekistan and one citizen of Tajikistan. Approximately 20 foreign nationals were wounded. The Kiev neo-Nazis deliberately targeted facilities where people from our friendly countries live and work, aiming to drive a wedge between our nations and undermine our brotherly relations. The terrorist attacks perpetrated by Ukrainian militant have claimed the lives of not only Russian civilians, but also foreign nationals. ▪️ We express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wish speedy recovery to the wounded. The Russian Foreign Ministry calls on all members of the international community to condemn the barbaric crimes of the Ukrainian Nazis.

⚡️ Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation: EU ready to do anything to prevent Russia’s return to international sport The Press Bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation (SVR) reports that, according to information received by the SVR, Europe’s so-called elites are deeply alarmed by the International Olympic Committee’s decision to lift sanctions against the Russian Olympic Committee and Russian athletes. In Brussels and EU capitals, there is much lamenting that the IOC’s move effectively nullifies years of Western efforts to “isolate” our country from international sport. What has caused particular alarm among Eurobureaucrats, bordering on panic, is the prospect of Russian athletes participating in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles under their national flag and anthem. In the totalitarian and fascist manner typical of Euro-liberals, they now intend to “punish” the International Olympic Committee itself. The plan is to “hit them in the wallet” by restricting funding for the IOC and other sports organisations that agree to allow Russians to compete. ❗️A fresh push is underway to undermine Russia’s standing as a major sporting power. Europe’s “undertakers” of the Olympic Movement intend to step up anti-Russian propaganda among countries and sports federations that take a constructive approach towards Moscow, seeking to persuade them to sabotage the IOC’s “apolitical” decision. The EU has already included Russian sports officials, including Russian Sports Minister and President of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev, in its 21st sanctions package. It is also considering visa bans and additional targeted restrictions against an even broader range of Russian athletes and representatives of Russian sports organisations. Another effective way of “taking the Russians out of the game”, according to the EU, is to stage provocations against members of Russian teams ahead of competitions. This approach was tested in Munich in early July, when police detained members of the Russian team competing at the European Junior Artistic Swimming Championships on suspicion of “espionage”. The intimidation, however, did not prevent the Russians from confidently topping the tournament’s overall medal table. 👉 It seems Russophobia has so clouded Eurobureaucrats’ judgment that they are ready to sacrifice the Olympic Movement itself. Yet the IOC’s latest decision shows that the global sporting community will not follow the lead of those seeking to bury Pierre de Coubertin’s great legacy.

#Victory81 On August 9, 1945, the Soviet Union, in accordance with its commitments to the Allies, entered the war against militarist Japan. 🌟 The Manchurian strategic offensive operation of the Soviet forces in the Far East commenced. Its objective was to defeat the enemy’s Kwantung Army and to drive the Japanese occupants from northeastern China and Korea. *** After the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and its accomplices, Japan remained the only 'axis' power still at war with the Allies. It possessed significant military capabilities to wage war, including offensive operations. In the summer of 1945, the Japanese kept near the Soviet borders an almost one million-strong Kwantung Army — a formidable force ready to treacherously invade our country at any moment. Japan still occupied huge territories in East and Southeast Asia — the Korean Peninsula, Indochina, Indonesia, Malaya, and a portion of China, as well as Burma, and the Philippine Islands. ❗️ Thus, Japan posed a huge threat not only to our country’s security, but also to the emerging post-war world order, which was taking shape after the defeat of Nazi Germany and was based on the decisions and agreements of the Leaders of the victorious Allied powers. Japan rejected the demand made by China, the United States, and UK on July 26, 1945 (paragraph 13 of the Potsdam Declaration) for the unconditional surrender of its troops. Following that, the Allied powers officially appealed to the Soviet government to repel Japanese aggression. *** In early August 1945, the Supreme High Command of the Soviet Union approved a plan for military operations in the Far East. It was entrusted to the specially created Main Command of the Far Eastern Forces headed by Marshal of the Soviet Union Alexander Vasilevsky. On August 9, the Red Army launched the offensive in Manchuria. The Soviet units, supported by aviation and the navy, advanced rapidly. Strikes were delivered on targets on land, at sea, and from the air. Combat operations unfolded along the front line that was over (!) 5'000 kilometres wide. Within a month, the Soviet forces liberated Harbin, the territories of Northeastern China and Korea, liberated South Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands. The breakthrough of the Red Army deep into Manchuria deprived the Japanese command of the opportunity to use bacteriological weapons against our country — Tokyo had been nurturing that plan during #WWII. By August 20, Japan’s ability to offer resistance to the Red Army was shattered. Almost everywhere, along the entire front line, the enemy soldiers were surrendering. The million-strong Kwantung Army was finally defeated. *** By September 1, 1945, the Soviet army had completed the assigned objectives. In just 23 days of combat, they crushed the Japanese militarist machine, thus making a decisive contribution to ending WWII in the Far East. Our country regained South Sakhalin, which had been seized by Japan from the Russian Empire in 1905, liberated the Kuril Islands, and restored lease rights to the Kwantung Peninsula with Port Arthur and Dalian. On September 2, 1945, the Act of Unconditional Surrender of Japan was signed aboard the USS 'Missouri' in Tokyo Bay. On behalf of the Soviet Union, the Act was signed by General Kuzma Derevyanko. #WW2 finally ended. 📖 Read more about the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation and the heroism of the Soviet soldiers in liberating northeastern China and Korea in our in-depth historical feature. #WeRemember #OurVictory

🗓 On August 8, the Member States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (#ASEAN) celebrate #ASEANDay. 🌏 #ASEAN was established in Bangkok on August 8, 1967, by Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines, which signed the Bangkok Declaration. The Association was subsequently joined by Brunei (1984), Vietnam (1995), Laos and Myanmar (1997), Cambodia (1999), while in October 2025 Timor-Leste became its 11th full member. #ASEAN is one of the key pillars of the regional architecture in the Asia-Pacific. A whole system of multilateral mechanisms involving Russia and other leading global powers has developed around the Association – the East Asia Summit (#EAS), the ASEAN Regional Forum (#ARF), the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (#ADMMPlus) and other formats. Russia actively participates in these mechanisms. 🤝 Developing cooperation with ASEAN is among the priorities of Russia’s foreign policy in Asia. Russia became a full Dialogue Partner of the Association in 1996. In 2017, Russia’s Permanent Mission to ASEAN began operating in Jakarta, and in 2018 Russia-ASEAN relations were elevated to a strategic partnership. *** On June 17-18, 2026, Kazan hosted the anniversary Summit marking 35 years of #RussiaASEAN relations. During the meeting, the Leaders conducted a comprehensive review of the Russia-ASEAN strategic partnership, outlined new areas of cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres, and exchanged views on current international and regional issues. 👉 Outcomes of the #RussiaASEAN Anniversary Summit 👉 Kazan Declaration “Russia-ASEAN: Unity in Diversity – 35 Years Together” 💬 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: Russia firmly believes that ASEAN is our reliable partner and like-minded ally. For our part, we consistently support ASEAN’s central role in all regional affairs and contribute to strengthening the system of interstate relations built around the Association, based on the principles of international law, openness, equality and, I would particularly emphasise, due regard for the interests of all participants. ⚔️ August 6 – the heroic defense of the Osowiec Fortress – a memorable date in Russia's military history. #OTD, 1️⃣1️⃣1️⃣ years ago, Russian soldiers carried out one of the most extraordinary counterattacks of World War I. At around 4 am on August 6, 1915, German forces, which had been laying siege to Osowiec Fortress for months, launched a massive poison-gas attack against its Russian garrison. The defenders had no effective protection, and the gas devastated the garrison and turned the battlefield into a poisoned wasteland. Believing the fortress silenced, thousands of German troops advanced. Instead, they were met by several dozen surviving Russian soldiers of the 13th Company, led by Second Lieutenant Vladimir Kotlinsky. Their faces covered with blood-soaked cloth, the poisoned defenders emerged from the trenches and charged with fixed bayonets. 🏳️ The sight broke the German advance. The attackers panicked, fled and became entangled in their own barbed wire as the surviving Russian artillery opened fire. The lost positions were retaken. This counterattack entered history as the Attack of the Dead Men – an enduring symbol of the Russian soldier’s courage, devotion to duty and indomitable spirit. 🎥 © Russian Military Historical Society
