Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is launching his final reelection campaign from São Bernardo do Campo the industrial city where his political journey began with the workers’ movement. But Brazil’s workforce has changed dramatically. Factory floors and unions once formed the backbone of Lula’s Workers’ Party. Today, millions of younger Brazilians work through digital platforms such as Uber and iFood, with many preferring flexibility over traditional employment. The numbers show the shift: Formal employment fell from 46.7% of workers in 2010 to 38.2% in 2025. Meanwhile, Brazil’s platform workforce reached around 2.1 million growing 170% between 2015 and 2025. 🇵🇸🇮🇱 Hebron under Israeli raid as Palestinian shops are forced to close. Israeli forces raided the occupied West Bank city of Hebron on Saturday, forcing Palestinian shopkeepers to shut their businesses and restricting movement through the Old City, according to Middle East Monitor. Local reports say the area was sealed off to facilitate the entry of Israeli settlers, while journalists were reportedly prevented from filming and ordered to leave. Palestinian officials say Israeli military and settler attacks across the occupied West Bank have sharply increased since the Gaza war began in October 2023. According to Palestinian figures cited by Middle East Monitor, more than 1,183 Palestinians have been killed, around 13,000 injured and nearly 25,000 arrested. Palestinians warn that the continuing raids and settlement activity are creating facts on the ground that could pave the way for annexation of the West Bank. Chinese startup Photon Matrix is testing its mosquito-zapping laser system outdoors in Xinjiang, taking the tech beyond controlled lab trials. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un have reaffirmed their close ties as North Korea marked the 81st anniversary of its liberation from Japanese colonial rule. Putin said the relationship was forged through the shared struggle of Soviet soldiers and expressed confidence that cooperation would continue across “all the sectors.” Kim, in response, highlighted the two countries’ “common struggle for justice” and their long-standing traditions of friendship. Moscow and Pyongyang have expanded military and political cooperation, while a Russian ship arrived at Wonsan for a goodwill visit marking the anniversary. At the same time, South Korea is calling for dialogue with Pyongyang. But North Korea has rejected Seoul’s overtures, accusing US-South Korean military exercises of being provocations.
