Mālik narrated in Al-Muwaṭṭaʾ — and this is a beautiful piece of wisdom — that it was said to Luqmān the Wise: “What has brought you to the position we see you in?” They were asking about the virtue and wisdom he had attained. Luqmān was a righteous and wise servant whom Allah, the Almighty, mentioned in the Qur’an. He was known for his virtue and wisdom. They asked him: “What has brought you to what we see in you?” Luqmān replied: “Speaking the truth, fulfilling the trust, and leaving alone what does not concern me.” Shaykh Sulaymān al-Ruḥaylī حفظه الله said: “These three qualities—speaking truthfully, fulfilling trusts, and leaving what does not concern a person—are among the causes of attaining virtue. Whoever wishes to rise to a higher level of excellence should make his tongue truthful, fulfill his trusts, and leave what does not concern him. Imam al-Shawkānī, may Allah have mercy on him, gave a biographical account of one of his students and said: “He was extraordinary and exceptional in memorization and understanding, and reviewing, and between him and i were prose and poetic correspondences. He was from the scholars, a devout worshipper and ascetic.” Then he said: “Then he became associated with the Rāfiḍī (Shia) Imāmī authority. So he became one of those who close to them [of the Rāfiḍī Imāmī authority], and then he became a rebellious devil, may Allah curse him, seeking the position of authority, consuming endowments (awqāf) and the wealth of orphans in the name of authority.” Then he said: “Do not be astonished by the beginning of the journey; the hearts are between two fingers of the Most Merciful.” — Al-Badr al-Ṭāliʿ (2/60)

The best of women is the one who obeys Allah and His Messenger ﷺ by obeying her husband, and by not opposing his commands, his prohibitions, his commitments, or his promises. Shaykh ʿAbd al-Razzāq al-Badr says: Among the greatest qualities of a righteous wife—loving and fertile—is that she appreciates her husband’s efforts and hard work. She does not burden him with what he cannot bear, and she recognizes the hardship he endures in earning a livelihood, enduring the scorching heat of the sun and the bitter cold for the sake of his household. An intelligent woman is not ungrateful for her husband’s kindness, nor does she deny his virtue. Rather, she welcomes him with a smile and a kind word that makes him forget the fatigue of the day. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah does not look at a woman who does not thank her husband while she cannot do without him.” ⸻ O noble woman, in this intense heat, when temperatures have reached 54°C (129°F), as you look at your husband struggling under the blazing sun from the early morning until midday, then continuing his work outside the home from noon until evening to provide a living and protect his family, remember well how much this poor man endures. Many of us cannot bear standing outside for even two minutes in such heat, yet he spends his entire day in those scorching conditions, only to return home in the evening exhausted and worn out. Is this not a situation that deserves gratitude rather than complaint and اعتراض? Do not be ungrateful or deny his kindness.
