There are some nights in medicine you never forget. This is one of mine. A road traffic accident brought in multiple injured patients, and the entire emergency ward suddenly stood on one leg. Medical interns, residents, specialists : everyone was running around for one purpose: saving lives. It was already 8 PM when the patients came in, and that's when our work really began. The ER was hectic. There was blood, pain, people shouting, people running from one place to another. I didn't even get the chance to have dinner. Not because I decided to skip it, but because time simply passed without me realizing it. I was preparing patients for the OR, running around to get laboratory results (sometimes we had to physically go to the lab and explain how urgent the situation was), looking for blood, inserting catheters, and doing everything that was expected of me as a medical intern. And everyone had their role. The interns knew their responsibilities. The residents knew theirs. The specialists knew theirs. But somehow, we were all moving as one. It felt like we had one heart. The sun came up without any of us closing our eyes for even a minute. And the day still wasn't over. We had morning case presentations, followed by ward rounds. I didn't sleep for another six hours after that. When I finally got home, I couldn't feel my body. I was too tired to think, let alone do anything else. But underneath all that exhaustion was something much louder: pride! I was proud to be part of that team. Proud to be learning medicine. Proud to be doing something that mattered. Because, to me, being a doctor is one of the coolest things anyone can be. It's living for someone else. It's showing up when someone is having one of the worst days of their life. It's being part of a team that fights for someone's life. It's being a hero. And that's why I didn't transition into the remote world because I wanted to leave healthcare. I didn't. I still want to be part of it. I just found a different way to contribute. Because supporting those heroes so they can focus on what they do best is also a way of being a hero. And honestly? I'm very happy to still be part of healthcare, even if I'm doing it from my home. What's one day in your healthcare journey that you'll never forget? I'd love to hear your story. ❤️ Dr. Eden Fekadu (MD) Remote Medical Assistant LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eden-fekadu/ @HakimEthio
